Great location, nice hosts, clean facilities and HUGE campsites. If you're thinking about going to Emerald Isle, do yourself a favor and skip the extremely overpriced, overcrowded campgrounds by the beach and stay at Cedar Point instead. Only 10 minutes to the beach. You won't regret it.

Absolutely gorgeous campground. The host met us immediately at our site to ensure we had water on board. The roads leading in are not well marked if you're not familiar with the area, and completely in the dark if you come in at night. The sites are very large, open and grassy. Pads are paved. Electric only. So peaceful hard to believe the hustle and bustle of the beach is nearby. We'll definitely be back
Camped in 40' motorhome with 4 slides. towing 10' enclosed bike trailer. 50 amp. Site long enough to back in MH and gave room for trailer/bike in front.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alfred B.Wayne, MI10242219291Dec 29, 2017
It is a beautiful place. We visit often and each season presents new discoveries and joys.
This trail is remarkable for several reasons. It traverses several types of North Carolina landscapes including salt marsh, swampland, pond, riverine, bottomland, pineland and includes what appears to be a rather large spring. I will leave it to you to explore each of these biomes and find the spring for yourself.
A wide variety of creatures lives in and around the park and may be seen at any time. I recommend early morning or late evening for viewing animals. During the day from dawn to dusk many types of birds may be seen. The animals that are around include black bear, white tailed deer, red squirrel, gray squirrel, rabbit, fox and others. Birds include herons, cranes, gulls, bluebirds, cardinals, jays, crows, ravens, duck, goose, woodpeckers, osprey, hawk and an occasional eagle.
The water is crowded with creatures including marsh snails, blue crab, fiddler crab, flounder, spot, croaker, minnow, frogs, turtles and others. There is a lot to be learned here as the area was originally 'opened' during the 1930's with a WPA Project that intended to drain the land in order to reduce the number of mosquitoes. The result, however, was quite different and left canals throughout the marsh which allowed encroachment of salt waters. The area has recovered quite nicely and now presents a wide variety of wildlife and plants to view and discover.
Also at this location are campgrounds which can be reserved. There is a sizeable boat launch for canoe, boat and kayak. Easy access is available then to local freshwater rivers and streams, large saltwater marshes, bays, the barrier islands and on to the ocean.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Justine W.Cary, NC21321328Apr 14, 2019
Campgrounds are pretty nice, bathrooms clean, and showers spacious with hot water (although you don't get to control the temp yourself). Closeby to some fast food restaurants, cute dive bars, and activities like kayaking.
Lost a star (almost two) because host was a huge prick to us from the moment we arrived. No "hello" to greet us, just "What are you doing here?" Uhm, we had a reservation? Rudely asked us to prove we had a reservation and then started lecturing us about rules of the campground. He ended up driving past our campsite multiple times in a stalking manner throughout our stay. It was really creepy.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Joe Z.Hampstead, NC27198Jul 19, 2018
The campground was nice. The bathrooms were clean. But the Host was an ignoramus. My family of 6 came to cedar point campground and we were excited to enjoy the outdoors a bit. The kids are 9, 12, 12 and 13. Old enough to understand right from wrong and very sweet. Four kids, 3 girls and youngest was a boy. They are the farthest thing from rowdy. Around bedtime my wife was gearing up to take the kids to the bathroom at around 10:08pm. As the girls were getting their 2 flashlights together, the host rolls up in his golf cart and very abruptly and in a sarcastic tone old man way, says very rudely we had to be quiet because quiet hours is 10pm and the flashlights needed to turned off and we need to quite down immediately. Rowdy is the farthest thing from what was happening. Normal level voices and just talking was all that was going on. You can hear cars on the highway making more noise. Wonder if he rolled his little buggy on the highway to tell everyone to quite down there as well??? He said if he has to tell us again he will "run us out of there". Really buddy??? I was brought up to respect my elders, but this old mans actions are not condoned and this host acted very inappropriately towards a woman and children. The kids are young but old enough to understand right from wrong. My one daughter was a little nervous about camping because of wildlife and scary people that could be around us (she's a nervous nelly). This guy helped nothing there. We camped on 7/14-7/15. One night. Today is 7/19 and I'm still aggravated about the mans actions. I just wanted to review this guy because I'm sure it isn't the first time he's done this and made people uncomfortable. False accusations and/or statements are not appropriate anywhere. Go bother people that are actually doing something wrong. I was going to say something to this guy in the morning but I decided against it for what I might say. I turned the other cheek sort of say... but this guys actions need to be known and dealt with. Not sure how it works for hosts/hostess's, but they need to pleasant and welcoming. Common sense... The N.C. parks website says nothing about quiet hours and this was our first time at this campground. We actually went to check in with he hostess the guys wife I guess and no one told us rules about anything? All she said was "did you reserve online" answered yes, her reply was "then why are you checking in? You don't need to if you reserved online". That wasn't very friendly in my opinion. It's just good form for us to introduce ourselves and show respect that we have arrived and allow them the opportunity to tell us anything we need to know, ie. quite hours?!? I want to emphasize we were talking NOT yelling nor being obnoxious. The host also followed my wife and my kids in his golf cart, while they walked to the restrooms with no flashlight after he yelled at them. They were obviously uncomfortable. We have never experienced this when camping. Just wish this guy catches wind of this review and the review we shared with the parks and recreation folks. I'm sure I will never hear an apology, and if I did, it would most likely be falsely delivered. He is who he is, but the title of host should not be attached to this guy. I'm leaving a Long review and I apologize, but I feel better letting everyone know. The trails were nice and not very long or difficult to walk. Nice for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors for a day or two. Great sunset pictures along the trail. Hope this review is helpful to someone.

The campground is Laid out nicely, The restrooms clean, Sites are electric and clean. The Campground CO HOSTS are great, helpful and polite. The campground HOST is RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL, And very UNPROFESSIONAL. I will not go back there just because of the way he treated us and talked to us.
