Brunch was delicious. The carafe of bloody Mary's is a pretty good deal compared to the same cost for a carafe of memosas. The group had a wide range of dishes from the vegan friendly avocado toast, (ignore the egg in the photo. That was a second order for someone else at the table) French toast, bacon, potatoes, and shrimp and grits.
Everyone was highly satisfied with the experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3022931085Oct 18, 2020
First post-Covid visit here was a delight! Came for happy hour and stayed long after. Martinis were great, a little on the small side, but not as small as some happy hour martinis. Limited HH food menu was good- the fried chickpeas had a good flavor and are perfect for sharing. The pretzel with beer cheese was AMAZING. The beer cheese was so delicious that we scooped out what was left in the ramekin with a knife and ate it. Suggestion for the "pretzel" - it was essentially a roll. If they were nuggets, it would be easier to share. The poke tacos were fresh and tasty. The squid ink gnocchi was probably my least favorite, but it was beautifully plated.
The outdoor tables appear to fill up quickly, so we were relegated to indoors, but the space is so aesthetically stunning, we didn't mind. Everyone following safety protocols. Can't wait to return!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 20, 2020
Perrrrrrrrr-fect for outdoor eating and drinking. In Nawlins, we call this dine-ing!!!! Such a beautiful looking house.
We came here for drinks after dinner. We saw a huge fried chicken sandwich being served. I did ASK how it tasted and the customers said amazing.
Cavan, hold my chicken sandwich down.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Aug 2, 2020
This is seriously one of my husband and I's favorite spots in New Orleans for dinner-it's perfection for a date night. The ambiance is sultry and somewhat upscale but not overly so-it's an old NOLA-style house that has been turned into a restaurant so each room is different.
They have a rotating seasonal menu and everything we've ever had has been amazing! We've tried the whole fish (pricy but worth the splurge for a special night and the massive amount of food you get), fried rice (rich and delicious), burger (delicious classic with a ton of crispy fries), charcuterie (good, maybe not the best in town for the price), etc. like I said, it's always changing, so ask your server what the current best items are!
The drinks are also amazing-they have some truly talented bartenders. Our favorite drink is Between the bars, which is a smoky fresh mezcal drink, but they can mix anything you like and also tweak any beverage to your liking!
One of the absolute best date night restaurants, we always take our visiting friends and family here for a true New Orleans experience!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Tiffany F.New Orleans, LA1942632Jun 14, 2021
We made reservations as a good friend was in town and wanted a good dinner. We came with about 10 people and was seated right away and was asked if we wanted to order our drinks.
We saw they had a spicy margarita and we wanted to try it. I forgot the name of it but IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!
Not your typical spicy marg, it had so much flavor and just enough heat to make you want more than one.
We ordered the crab lettuce wraps, the scallop entree, the jerk chicken dish and the gumbo.
All of it was amazing and perfect portions.
The staff were very nice and polite.
I will return again for sure!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 11147731Apr 29, 2021
Visited Cavan in mid-March with my brother. It is a lovely spot for dinner with a nice patio right on Magazine street - great for people-watching, if you enjoy that. We ordered the poke tacos for an appetizer, which was an interesting take on poke that was quite tasty and refreshing. For entrees, we tried the sheepshead amandine and jerk chicken, both of which were very satisfying and filling. Also tried the cookies and cream bombe for dessert, which my brother loved. I would love to try coming back for brunch some day. Watch out for the stray cat lurking around the patio - it's adorable but will really beg you for your food and can reach the table top!

Coolinary 2019 at Cavan is FANTASTIC. When I came, I ordered the Blackened Shrimp Toast, Shrimp and Cauliflower Grits, and Double Chocolate Torte. Was there a single thing I didn't love? Nope.
The blackened shrimp toast isn't listed on the Coolinary menu online, but it was fantastic. So many textures and flavors, which surprised me with how well it all worked together.
The Shrimp and Cauliflower Grits blew my mind. It had Okra Corn Maque Choux and Creole Tomato Butter. Lucky for you, this dish is on their regular menu so you can order it whenever you want (which should be all the time).
One word for this dessert... CHOCOLATE. The Double Chocolate Torte was similar to flourless chocolate cake and was phenomenal. It had passionfruit curd and black pepper meringue. I wish there was so much more of the fruit curd because it was a perfect complement to the chocolate.
I couldn't get enough of this meal. Plus, for only $30, it is a fantastic deal.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 6, 2021
A group of 7 of us came here for dinner ! We ordered a number of appetizers, entrees and drinks !
Appetizers
- Mussels were fresh and done with a white wine sauce
- Poke Tacos were light and had bold flavours a must order
- Chicken Teriyaki Lettuce Wraps were good, the best part was the pickled carrots
Entrees
- General Lu's Crispy Chicken was fried perfectly crispy on the outside, sitting on top of a bed of fried rice with a slight kick of spice and the sauce was sweet to balance everything out
- Shrimp & Grits were done with a BBQ sauce, the shrimps were fish and cooked perfectlyHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 403421998Oct 23, 2020
Good food great cocktails and awesome environment. We met some friends and had the Truffle Caesar salad, it was a good Caesar salad but it didn't notice or taste truffle. I will have to try again next time. I had the chicken sandwich it tasted good, my wife and friend got the burgers they both enjoyed the flavor, his wife got the shrimp an spaghetti which really liked especially the spicy flavor in the sauce. We got one of each of the desserts the s'mores was reimagined on a plate but all the key flavors were there but it wasn't a classic s'more if that is what you want. The cookies and creme bombe was my favorite. I want to come back when they can expand the menu later. Great service. We enjoyed are meal very much.

Cavan
New Orleans has so many restaurant bars that it's nearly impossible to keep up. Our local hidden gems are always right around the corner. So we hit up @cavannola, an uptown mansion serving up some great cocktails and casual eats.
We started with two "Double Impeachments," a nice fruity drink with a little pow! I personally love calamari, so I couldn't pass it up once I saw it on the menu. The dish was nicely fried and accompanied by some homemade sauces. Squeeze a little fresh lemon on them and bam, you're good to go.
For the main course, we had the jerk shrimp and the "Chicken Paillard". The shrimp were disappointing, overcooked, and mushy. I had to send it back! However the chicken was very good. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and paired with those juicy tomatoes; a simple dish with major flavor.
We ordered "Peaches N Dreams", soooo yummy; caramelized peaches, granola and tasty ice cream, paired with a Froze. Perfect way to end the night.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
