Carnival Spot has been serving delicious thin-crust pizza and sandwiches to the Pompton Plains area since 1966. And now, Carnival Spot serves gluten-free pizza! Whether you are new to the area or have lived in Pompton Plains for years, you know that Carnival Spot serves great food! Our subs are perfect for lunch on the go or after a movie on a Friday or Saturday night! We have customers who have been coming in for the #5 Bonanza for almost 50 years!! We serve hot sandwiches like meatball parm and serve it on bread we bake daily. This is part of what makes our sandwiches long time favorites. Our new dining room, has daily specials menu which includes pasta, chicken and fish and we always prepare all of our dinners to order using the freshest, top quality ingredients. Carnival Spot's traditional 'krispy krust' pizza, as well as our specialty pies such as chicken penne vodka or cheese steak and fries pizza, are heavenly! Take out or delivery is available.

We came here tonight after seeing multiple posts on our town Facebook page. Sounded very interesting, Peruvian food, empanadas and pizza so we decided to give it a try. With the suggestion of the owner, we tried a chicken and rice dish, beef empanada and chicken empanada. Everything was delicious! the portion of the chicken rice dish was very good. The empanadas were delicious although $2.50 each was a bit pricey. I work near Dover where the empanadas are priced better and just as delicious, but I would definitely recommend giving this place a try for your next take out night!

Second rate pizza meets surly employees.
The best thing I can say about the pizza is they serve it hot.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Scooby D.Paterson, NJ24453Jul 31, 2016Updated review
Update: New owners, yet AGAIN. Currently, the pizza tastes the same. However, they've ripped out the TV, the Pac-Man machine, and the soda fountain.....now serving cheap 'bodega-style' C&C soda bottles, instead. The day I was there, they had no diet soda. Charge cards are run through an iPhone? Giant Peruvian flag outside. Spray painted bedsheets (yes, sheets) for empanadas and ceviche are now adorning the walls and windows, and the owner pushes her Peruvian food on every other customer through the door. Sad to see an old school local pizza joint hit the skids like this.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 1, 2016Previous reviewPlace is a bit odd. It's small. Never a crowd. Phone never rings. You can't see the kitchen or the slice pies. Pizza is very unique. As they advertise, the crust is 'krispy' and thin. Very thin. Sauce is seasoned a bit more than I like, but decent. Sometimes, the cheese can be greasy but the overall slice is always quite good. They close early.
Somewhere between the thin and crispness of a bar pie (Kinchley's, Star, Nellie's, Mountain House) and the overall NJ (Vinnie's, V&J's, Ray's Famous) style. Good stuff.
Been coming here for almost 30 years and there have been different owners, but the pizza is always consistently good.
Never tried their heros or dinners, sorry...

Yummy!! I saw pics on Fb if this place and was craving the ceviche. It did not disappoint. Nice flavors and big portions. My husband had a slice of pizza and enjoyed it. Thin slice and crispy!! Will be back!!!

It WAS the best local pizza and Italian food.
NOW CLOSED.
They used corn meal in their oven instead of flour. It raised the dough and crisped the bottom. And their red sauce was delicious.

This place has been a town institution for more years than I can remember. The guy who took it over from the family RUINED IT, and the new owners brought a lot to this spot. The empanadas, and the Perivian drinks were nice additions. They were very nice people, but seeing this place dark now for several days made me wonder? I think sadly they are gone. The number is disconnected. I asked around and a few people said they had said they heard that they started a business somewhere else, but no one knows where .I am so very sad. They will be missed. Lovely people and great food.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 13, 2017Previous reviewread some recent review session here which sound dubious, but i always read all reviews even those hidden under not recommended . you can find some good ones, there too. love those empanadas!
Jan 7, 2017Previous reviewOk, I know it's not our HS joint anymore and with all the pizza places around town you can be choosey. How do they all manage? I do agree, that at days end I have has a,soggy Emp, which can be find anywhere. BUT....a famous place Rauls in Morristown which has an infinite variety in any combo imaginable. ..can't compare to the Empanadas here in size ,flavor or cost. I believe these, are homemade unlike those in Morristown which seem to be frozen... I do go to several places for Emps as,I work all over and it's nice to have a variety in town . Stefanos....don't like the sauce on the pizza, and they individual slices as well as other things helper skeeter with bare hands that I have seen people wipe their pants or other things etc, yuk. Pizza man just doesn't get it anymore. Many reviews obviously read by the owner show he is aware but his help isn't. Rude waitresses, smaller portions, AND CUTTING CORNERS DICED SHRIMP 8NSTEAD OF WHOLE ON A SCAMPI PIZZA $!?. So yes, this is a comparison to what's out there. Frank's gives me heartburn, Cosmo bella? Haven't tried in years. Ameti's ,didn't like the sauce.
The go to pizzas for 9ver 30 + years were PM & Carnival spot. And Carnival changed hands to someone who claimed he was a pizza snob, so I stopped going when he changed the pizza. I have had their pizza now and,I do like it although the sauce tastes a bit different I do like it.And yes, the 9ne lady does push her Peruvian food but heh, she sells and cares. Not like many other places who have been around awhile so she is getting you to TRY stuff.Ok maybe annoying to some, but still keep an open mind here. We have so many Chinese and pizza places, it's nice to have a change. And my big disappointment was the anticipation of Noches de Columbia opening up here ( way better in other locations of that name brand)so for this type of food although not cuban, the empanadas are definitely worth a try. I would just like to see more Peruvian dishes. - Megan D.Raymond, ME0141Dec 3, 2017
The pizza is the same as it's always been. Pretty decent, but their empanadas are great!! Such a pleasant surprise. Love coming here when I'm in the mood for something besides our usual take out!

I drive by this place every day and noticed the empanada signs and decided to give it a shot. I used to come here occasionally when the previous owners were still around and always liked it. The empanadas are "meh" at best. Chicken was way over cooked and the beef had a strange flavor. I was excited to see something fast and different in the area but don't think I'll be coming back.
