Never a stricter policy about drinks than here. They just made me pour out my root beer that I poured into a water cup.
My policy says that I either pay for a drink or contribute that amount to a tip which I did.
Moving forward I'll only pay for drinks at this establishment. #notipsHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I just returned to California Fish Grill. It has been many years
and I'm happy to say this place has survived and thrived.
The decor is pure southern California. You order in front, then
they call your name when the food is ready. They have changed
their menu that include bowls. The prices have remained the
same over the years.
I had two skewers of shrimp. The shrimp was grilled over a
flame and served with a garlic butter. Their slaw is excellent and
their white rice is delicious.
My plate was $13 I planned to go to the Crab Cooker, which sells
the same plate for $25.
Quality food at fair prices is what wins the race. Good job.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Feb 4, 2017Previous reviewFish Grill is awesome. The great news is they continue to evolve into
a better and better place to eat. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
Clean, simple menu, fast, inexpensive and fresh fish. Drink choices.
Cons:
Hard to find a seat some times. Prices went up for salmon. Needs
melted butter as an option.
That's it. A four star restaurant in Irvine. - Dec 9, 2023Updated review
Decent price for fish. Surprisingly empty on a weekday evening though it did pick up around 7ish. The plates and trays are huge with an adequate portion of fish. I find the sides can either be a decent amount or too little. I was surprised to find the tomatoe feta to not be cherry tomatoes, but everything tasted fresh. The white fish is always the most tender, I got garlic butter sauce which was a little salty. Their rice is on the white cookef side seasoned with butter/salt, but not too dry.
Overall for around $14 it's a decent meal :).Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Feb 8, 2022Previous reviewFast service, decent taste. Pickup very smooth if you order to go. Plaza gets filled but parking is plenty. I think you have to ask the worker for the flavor bar as its not set out ( lemons, ketchup, etc).
We did 2 plates and 1 regular clam chowder. Overall, decent flavor though one side is always way smaller than the other one.
Mahi mahi- a bit dry and chewy, the cajun sauce is on the buttery side and quite good, needed more with this fish.
Cauliflower rice - taste like green sauce? Cilantro-y tasted healthy, but the grains are not cut as fine
Kaleslaw- mostly cabbage, they gave a tiny amount.
Sea bass- not the big steaks, more tender, works well with the sauce.
Fries- fried really well, crispy. Couldn't find the ketchup or tartar sauce ( have to ask I think) . Recommended
Brussels sprouts- fried well, tasted like crispy ( kale chip like), a few tomatoes. Recommended
Clam chowder- liquid, but solid seasoning and has enough of little bits in it to feel its good
Price range around $11-$15 so average cost for this sort or lunch places. Adequate giant seating inside, smaller seating inside. Portion wise it's okay, full enough but not wow portions, was odd the sides were so differently portioned. - Feb 21, 2024
Healthy and filling meal at a decent price. I got the Swai (white fish) with the creamy garlic butter sauce. It was tender, moist, and very flavorful. For side dishes I got the brown rice which was a pleasant surprise in that it was not dense nor dry like brown rice normally is. And I got the Kaleslaw (coleslaw) with a side of lime vinaigrette which I mix into it to make it perfect. I was decently hungry and all of this totally filled me up.

Returning to this dining establishment after a considerable hiatus, I was disappointed by the significant decline in the overall experience. Upon entering, patrons are directed to two large screens for self-ordering, followed by a wait at the counter until receiving a text notification for food pickup. With a minimal staff of around five individuals, including kitchen workers, the preparation time exceeded 30 minutes. The absence of the previous sauce bar for condiments added to the unfavorable shift, making the dining experience reminiscent of a slower and inferior fast-food setting. Despite past enjoyment of the food, this subpar encounter has deterred me from returning.

Very disappointed by the 'Seasoned Tomato and Feta' menu item. (See attached picture.)
Got this food 'to-go'. Paid $1.50 extra for avocado for a $5 item that consisted of one (very small) tomato, a few feta crumbles, and 1/4 of a (small) avocado that was already browned the second it came out of the restaurant. Very unappetizing and unappealing.
This item shouldn't even be on the menu if this is what is being served to customers.
Edit: While I appreciate the restaurant's offer to continue this discussion, I don't believe any further discussion is necessary. I'm not holding my review hostage for the expectation of personal compensation; if the restaurant doesn't want to see reviews like this, then please don't serve customers food like this.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Amazing as always. Favorites are the grilled plates of salmon and Mahi Mahi with garlic butter with 2 sides. But they have a lot of sauces or seasonings to choose from. Love the shrimp skewer add on to your entree plate for 3.99. I love their new slices tomato and feta side. Rice side is always delicious and kale is a healthy yummy option as well. Great prices.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in the whole world.
Not only is it so fast! Wether I'm wasting there or ordering online from postmates, My order always comes fast, Hot and delicious!
I love that they offer "petite" plates incase you don't want to eat too much and I also love their kids menu. Me and my daughter eat here atleast once a week for lunch ! The white fish is the BEST and they never charge extra for garlic butter sauce which is awesome !!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 46155164Oct 21, 2023
Prices aren't terrible and the food is pretty good. Ordered the sea bass, mahi mahi, both cajun style, along with the calamari and everything was quite good and tasted fresh. Nice seating outside.
