Cafe On the Corner

I went on a Saturday for lunch not realizing that they only have lunch on Mon-Fri. Fortunately, it was around 11 a.m. and they serve until 11:30, so I made it in time for breakfast/brunch.

I got a cup of coffee while looking over the menu and decided to go with their all meat and all veggie omelette. I went with the sliced potatoes and wheat toast as my sides.

The portions were generous, but not wasteful. The flavor was fine...they don't add salt and pepper but provide those in shakers on each table to adjust to your liking. The omelette was stuffed and had a nice layer of flavors.

The potatoes were a little unevenly cooked, with some crispy and others not so much. The toast arrived already buttered with my choice of two jelly flavors in packets on the table.

The waitress was friendly throughout. She greeted me, directed me to sit wherever I wanted, and refilled my coffee. I noticed most "regulars" went up to the counter to pay, but since I was still eating, I told her it was okay to ring up my bill ahead of time to help them since I was still eating past the end of serving time. She brought my bill back and made sure I knew I didn't need to hurry on their account. I appreciated that!

I will need to come back during the week to try that monster tenderloin.

Good service and a great tenderloin. Huge! This is a drive from Indy. If you are in for a road trip there is local color and the country scenery is great.

Bad attitude! The food here is okay. Just your typical small town diner stuff. Nothing to write home about. What isn't great here? The service. Our waitress didn't introduce herself nor did she tell us about the specials. When my dining companion requested extra lettuce, the snarl on her face was more than apparent. Maybe she was having a bad day. Whatever it was, she should have left that bad attitude at the door.

Locals at the big table drinking water and coffee. Nothing else going on in town so it's a great place to spend a morning or afternoon or both. The food is big and its cheap and the waitress is nice and friendly.

Pros:
Easy parking despite being downtown
Nice waitress
Cheap food
It's ok and good enough
Good to just sit and look at the locals come in and go out to their farms.

Cons:
None. The owners cater to their customer base and they know they want cheap and friendly and a place to hang for a few hours and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
