A cute little Turkish cafe, with good drinks and good food. Perfect for a quick bite, or a place to do work/study. The lady behind the counter was nice and informative in explaining the menu items.
The Turkish coffee was good, and the pink chai is nothing like I've had before. Definitly not spiced like I've had before, it's almost like drinking a lightly sweetened red velvet tea if that makes sense.
The gyro looked delicious, nice and loaded!! I loved being able to get the combo platter with chicken and the lamb/beef. All of the meat was delicious, it comes over a bed of rice, naan, and a side salad. I really liked the white sauce and the green sauce! I think the white sauce was a tzatziki and the green one was a jalapeño lemon? It paired well with meat over rice.
It is in a little plaza and parking was not bad at all, be sure to stop by to try something out of your comfort zone! :) ask for recommendations and don't be shy!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 18, 20241 check-in
This place is so nice! Came here with my dog before going to the dog park close by on a you can sit outside if your dog since they don't allow them inside. (It would be amazing to have someone come take orders for the ones with a dog who sit outside) but it's nice they even have a doggie water bowl. Their selection is so good and I can't wait to try more things off their menu! This time I had the Belgian waffle and the Turkish shot and both were so good! The folks working were super nice and I can't wait to come back and try more of their items!

They brought my daughter a chocolate cupcake on the house for her birthday!! Had the biggie wrap yesterday. It was absolutely delicious. I love the vibes here. I go here just to work sometimes as well. The food tastes fresh and healthy. I think I'm now hooked and I will be back a lot more.

I don't know why it's taken me so long to visit Cafe Rumi, but I'm glad I finally did!
My friend and I came here for a quick coffee and breakfast after an early morning weekday walk. It's sort of up in the hills in a residential area of castro valley I don't frequent often. They do have plenty of parking because they're in a plaza with other shops.
The cafe itself is not large, but they do have a handful of tables inside for people to hang out or get some work done. There's also a few tables outside which we opted to go for since it was a nice sunny day. I also liked the colorful decor of the cafe.
Service was pretty straightforward - we went up to the counter and ordered pretty easily. The food came out not too long after. We didn't hear them call our names/numbers from outside so we checked in a couple of times to see if our food was ready.
I went with their sausage egg sandwich and a turkish latte. The sandwich was good, though I thought it was interesting that they cut up the sausage. I guess I'm just used to sausage patties being used in breakfast sandwiches. I also really enjoyed the turkish latte!Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - 4116251590Jun 25, 2023
Cafe Rumi makes a mean beef and lamb gyro. Their "pink chai" drink is delicious and unique too. When I asked the cashier what's it made of, she replied, "Green tea".
The vegetarian wrap featured eggplant and was definitely saucy and messy to eat. Served with additional sauce on the side, it was still good.
I would come back for the gyro.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 1240133May 19, 2023
Was looking forward to brunch and studying here since some other reviews have it as their go-to spot, but was instead disappointed at the unseasoned nature of the food and diluted drinks, as well as the distracting ambiance.
Food:
Despite how good it looks in photos, the Rumi egg wrap was bland overall-- the only hints of flavor came from the creamy, slighty tangy sauce and tartness of the tomatoes. The sauce was good, but it was unevenly dispersed and there was not enough to adequately flavor the wrap throughout. The eggs were not seasoned at all, and the meat and cheese were barely even salty. The wrap was filling, but otherwise unmemorable.
Drinks:
Was excited to try their pink chai, but it was much more dilute than expected. The chai flavor was so faint the drink was more like a warm foamy milk.
The iced Turkish latte was flavorful, but they charge an exorbitant price of $2 for almond or oat milk substitution. One thing I do appreciate is the light ice and the strong and unique coffee flavor in the Turkish latte, which is why this review is 2 stars instead of one.
Ambiance:
There is ample indoor and outdoor seating, but the music was uncomfortably loud. Even with noise-cancelling earbuds, it was impossible to focus because the speakers are located in the ceiling right above the table, and blare so loudly you can still hear it even when sitting outside. The ads from Pandora radio were distracting as well, adding to the cacophony rather than drowning out the conversations happening at other tables.
Service was slow as well, despite there only being one other party in the café at the time. It's expected that good things take time, but to wait longer than normal for tasteless food and drink was highly disappointing. Overall, spending around $30 plus tip for a wrap and 2 drinks here is just not worth it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2
