      What I had:
      - Fries - Not bad, not great, but if you need a potato fix, it was fine.

      - Chicken Wings (Lemon Pepper): these are some of the better chicken wings I've had, not too dry, but they WERE too salty overall. I thought it was generally pretty good, but have some water close to quench that thirst.

      You are going to like Brooklyn Pie more if you are happily getting sloshed at Little Woodrow's along with seven or nine of your best friends.

      When you are swimming in a sea of beer, you want your food to be nearby and that's all that matters.

      There is some great stuff at Brooklyn Pie - so this could be the foundation of a legendary night of eating and drinking.

      There is some awful stuff at Brooklyn Pie too - so make sure that your blood alcohol count is too high for you to be able to notice.

      * * *

      You really want to combine Brooklyn Pie with a trip to Little Woodrow's. The two establishments are in the same building with a 1/3 2/3 split.

      Brooklyn Pie's 1/3 of a building is pretty repellent.

      One TV.

      No real decorating.

      Hard institutional seating.

      The joint is nearly deserted.

      You go next door to Little Woodrow's and it is Party Time USA.

      You can stay on the Brooklyn Pie side and be depressed -

      Or you can have them deliver your food over to the Little Woodrow's side where the fun never stops.

      * * *

      Even though Brooklyn Pie is a pizza joint, over half the menu consists of non-pizza items.

      This is true to the spirit of East Coast Italian pizza joints which also offer all kinds of subs and a million other Italian and American specialties.

      I am not a huge pizza lover - so I went for the non-pizza side of the menu.

      I am with James Beard on this one.

      James Beard could never figure out why Americans go so gaga for pizza.

      He figured pizza was one of the most boring dishes in Italian cuisine.

      That sounds right to me.

      Brooklyn Pie does offer chicken wings in a broad array of flavors, as well as salads, fried appetizers, Italian subs, salads and calzones.

      * * *

      My verdict here.

      Avoid chicken dishes and you can do well.

      I had chicken tenders with a sweet mustard sauce and fried ravioli with a marinara sauce.

      * * *

      The fried ravioli were absolutely fantastic.

      These were better than most of the ravioli I have had on the East Coast.

      The marinara sauce was first rate but fairly standard.

      I suspect the ravioli are provided by outside suppliers, albeit good ones.

      What made the dish work was the frying where they did just a super job.

      * * *

      The chicken tenders were dubious.

      They looked great, didn't taste like much while eating them, and left a faintly bad aftertaste afterwards.

      The taste was not as bad as the chicken in cheap rotten chicken palaces like low-cost Chinese buffets or bottom of the line Mexican restaurants. Those places often buy chicken that is heavily discounted because it is old.

      The chicken here was halfway between normal HEB and dubious Chinese buffet. Mature but not health-department-violation old.

      Eating the chicken here won't kill you.

      But I see zero reason to order any of the umpty-ump flavors of chicken wings - or to put chicken on any of their pizzas.

      * * *

      If I was a good and conscientious Yelp reviewer, I would come back on another day to give their pizza a try.

      But given the fact that their room is not at all nice - and some of the items on the menu are pretty bad,

      I am not particularly in the mood for dice rolling.

      * * *

      However, when you are looking at the world through three pitchers of beer at Little Woodrow's,

      Really good pizza at a closer walking distance than the ladies' room may be a temptation you can not resist.

      Let me know if the beer and pizza work out.

      I had my doubts, but I was pleasantly surprised. I always order cheese pizza. It's my favorite. To be fair, I don't usually order extra cheese when trying a pizza place for the first time. Today, I did. So...it's a bit unfair to all the other places I've tried as far as comparison. 3.49 stars

      Anyway, I ordered an extra cheese slice, it was really good. Would I come here again? Yes. But I would also order extra cheese again. It was the perfect amount of cheese, so the regular cheese probably wouldn't cut it. The crust was a typical thin NY crust, but crispy instead of floppy. The edge crust was dry & was left as pizza bones - I didn't like it, but that's not unusual. My friend liked his slice - he ate the whole thing.

      The reason this place is so cool? It's right across the street from The Little Longhorn Saloon & next door to Little Woodrow's & they deliver your slice right over to you in the bar at LW's. So order a slice (or a whole pizza), go to the bar next door & enjoy your food & a drink when they bring it minutes later.

      Not a perfect pizza joint, but definitely better than most!

      This pizza place is nestled against the side of a Woodrow's, which I wasn't anticipating, and it was totally dead. When we walked in, the only person inside was a gal eating a salad and staring at her iPhone. They played some Pearl Jam and had a soccer game on a television in the corner, but it was quiet.

      The guy who greeted us was super helpful and accommodating. They don't have a buffalo chicken pie on the menu but he had no qualms preparing one for us. We also ordered some spicy fried pickles and some medium hot wings with sodas all around. Came out to $38.43. My boyfriend got a meaty pizza that was $20 on its own. A LITTLE steep for me but I have had more expensive pies.

      The fried pickles were decent. More bready than I would like, but still good. A bit of a kick and the dip they serve with it is like a thin ranch. My sister kept dripping it on the table. They were hot and fresh so I enjoyed them but they're not the best I have had.

      The pizza we got had buffalo sauce as a base with some grilled chicken and blue cheese on top of the mozzarella. Turned out a little too cheesy for me, could have used more sauce but it did the job. If I have the spare cash, I would have Brooklyn Pie any day over those national chains.

      Just a suggestion, I would say if you like hot sauce, go for the hot buffalo. We got medium on our pizza and wings and it was barely spicy for me, so I imagine their mild ain't no thang.

      Pro tip: They carry Maine Root drinks and their desserts look great, although we were too full to try them.

      Great but not the BEST!

      Since moving here from the East Coast, I've been coming up dry with trying to find a good pizza place. I don't know what it is about Austin, but it seems that my pizza choices are either generic chain, or highly craft... and sometimes, you just want a good, solid pizza.
      Well, Brooklyn Pie gave me exactly what I was looking for.
      Their pizzas are straight up good dough, delicious sauce, and tasty cheese. Nothing fancy, nothing craft, but still good quality. I ordered a cheese pizza with mushrooms and got exactly what I had been craving. Interestingly, all of their pizzas come in 8 slices, and you just choose the diameter. I ordered a large, and it was enough to feed five people - the slices are BIG.
      The only reason that Brooklyn Pie gets 4/5 stars, and not 5, is the price. A large pizza was $20. And, while that seems to be the norm here in Austin, it's hard for me to justify paying more than $15 for a simple pizza with mushrooms. So, next time I feel like splurging on some cheese and sauce, I'll definitely come back here. But, it's not going to be a weekly routine.

      Also, after looking at the other pictures and reviews, it seems that the single slices they sell are a bit bigger than the slices in the large pizza. Check out my photo of the large pizza with mushrooms to get an idea of the size when buying a whole pizza.

      Large pizza with mushrooms. Really delicious.

      We ordered a large (and it was HUGE) pizza with mushrooms, spinach, bacon, olive oil and mozzarella. I forgot the name, it's one of their specialty pizzas. So good. My little cousin got pizza by the slice and he loved it because it was bigger than his face.

      This place. We have gotten takeout from here SO many times over the years, and there have been ups and downs with our experiences. We never did a Yelp review before because we'd only ever dined in once a long time ago, and don't think that food should be judged on takeout alone.

      Well, we ate here on Saturday early evening and can officially declare that we'll never be eating inside there again. Mostly because there's little to no A/C but also because the customer service here blows.

      Our little one wanted some pizza on our way home because she didn't eat any at the birthday party we were attending because she was too busy playing. Fair enough. We stopped at Brooklyn Pie because we vaguely remembered them having single slices. What we also forgot was that those go for $4.50/pop with $0.75 per topping. Granted, they're bigger slices, but still WTF?! Just because you have Brooklyn in your name does that give you the right to charge prices that are even more expensive than in Brooklyn itself! Anyway, after a 15-minute "Who's on first?" exchange about pizza and prices with the Ding Dong running the cash register, we decided on a half pepperoni/half mushroom pie. It felt like it took forever to come out, but it was good. Not enough sauce on it, but good.

      That's the thing--the pizza here gets the job done (and we think we've also had decent wings in the past) but the pricing per slice is so bonkers and the dining-in experience so absurd that we want to hate it...but don't. We've got Home Slice by us now where we've been getting most of our pizza from, so who knows when we'll be back here, but fellow customers: we warned you.

      I've been wanting to try this place since reading a couple of my yelp buddy's positive reviews. There isn't a lot of seating inside. A couple of small tables and two benches, so if you want to eat lunch inside be forewarned. I arrived and had the place to myself for about 5 minutes and then the wave of humanity hit the place and packed it out in about 5 minites flat. Glad I got there early.

      I ordered the giant cheese slice, and it lived up to its name. I thought $4.50 was a little steep for a slice until I saw it. I took some of the slice home, it was so big. I added pepperoni to it (.75) and they did a great job loading it up. The crust is NY style thin, and there is a good amount of sauce. The sauce had a good flavor, but not very bold. Good overall flavor to the slice. They have a selection of drinks including Maine Root sodas on tap. Those are some good sodas. I saw several whole pies on the surrounding benches and they all looked good. The bottom of my slice was browned perfectly and it made for a great bite. I enjoyed it and definately recommend it.

      We got the Mona Lisa and the Meat Lovers and both were incredible! We walked across the street from Chicken Shit Bingo and we were not disappointed! We didn't even miss a game of bingo while we waited. The Mona Lisa was very garlicky but we love garlic. The slices were ginormous! Hit the spot.
