3 reviews for Brockett Pub House & Grill
I love, love, love, this pub (pub, pub). I am a longtime Atlanta resident, but have only lived in Clarkston for a week. Since I work in the Highlands, I pretty much travel from my end of Ponce, to midtown and back but rarely do I turn left out of my neighborhood and forge into Clarkston.
My boyfriend is much more adventurous than I am, and he has an appreciation for his local culture, wherever that may lead. I am easily squicked out just thinking about bar bathrooms, even though the Northside Tavern is one my faves (never been drunk enough to use THAT toilet though, and you know which one I mean), so I was a little wary of going to the Brockett Pub. I do like to try new things, though, and if it was a decent place I would be excited to have something good so close. I used to live in Brookhaven, and I miss Pub 71. A replacement is in order, and I definitely found one!
We went mid-afternoon on Monday and sat at the bar. For a while we were the only customers, but a bunch of regulars stopped in later. They were uh, colorful, characters to say the least, but I had a great time talking with them and actually look forward to bumping into them again.
The bartender was a cute, funny, nice gal. She gave my boyfriend a generous sample of a beer he was curious about, and when I ordered a drink she recommended, she poured it with a heavy hand.
We ordered the BPH fries as an app. The fries were probably the frozen variety but were well-cooked and seasoned. Topped with homemade bleu cheese dressing, bleu cheese crumbles, chopped tomato, and chiffonaded basil, they were decadent and tasty. They were supposed to also have roasted garlic, but I couldn't taste any. I didn't mind though. While I love my garlic, I also like being able to come into contact with people and not offend them with my stank breath. For real food, I ordered a brat with sauteed onions and pepps and a side salad. The salad was decent, with sunflower seeds and chopped apples as well as the standard stuff. The homemade ranch dressing was reeeally good. And the bratwurst, which was also homemade, was pretty dadgum great too. Boyfriend got a Cobb Salad that was pretty fully loaded. They didn't cut corners on the more expensive ingredients, like avocados and bacon (not of the Bitz variety, either!).
We got out of there for about 35 bucks, not including a generous tip. We can't wait to go back and eat more stuff and meet more of the Clarkston crew. I am not sad about leaving Brookhaven anymore, though some of that has to do with the Pub and some has more to do with living in a house with central a/c and covered parking.
While searching for places to grab a beer and a bite to eat near my house, I found the Brockett Pub. From the outside, it looks like kind of a hole in the wall, but once you get inside...well, it still looks like kind of a hole in the wall.
BUT, the pub food my wife and I had was excellent. Unique and tasty menu items, big portions and moderate prices are a good combo. She had a margharita quesadilla (mozzarella, basil and tomato) with a balsamic reduction on the side. I had a gigantic andouillie sausage served on a hoagie roll with peppers and onions. And a big handful of very good fried.
The beer list isn't going to wow any Brick Store/Taco Mac regulars, but the 12 beers they did have on tap included a nice mix of styles, from cheap domestic to small craft brews. The cooler looked to be stocked with a nice bottle selection, too.
Service was great. Very friendly, very attentive, and quick with a menu suggestion/recommendation.
Looking over the menu and around the bar, there seems to be something going on just about every night--Tuesday is $2 Bud night, Thursday is Team Trivia, Friday's karaoke. They've got NFL Sunday ticket and Wifi, and specifically highlighted the fact that it's a good place to follow your fantasy teams. I'll have to take them up on that offer in a couple of weeks.
Tucked away in the ghetto on one side or another of the train tracks (no, really) there is a little old school pub. Though at first glance you may pass by since there's nothing fancy or flashy going on here - you should take a second look. Inside is cozy, friendly and welcoming. There is a porch area out back on which to eat, drink, smoke and be merry. Inside is the bar, high tops, and tables - as well as the standard giant tv screens that broadcast sports non-stop.
And while this may sound like your average sports bar - it is not, by any means. Yes - they have a full service bar, but they also have a full menu including everything from grilled burgers to gyros, salads to nachos and the obvious bar-food too (chips, dip, wings...).
Wednesday's menu offers a home cooked meal - varying weekly by the owners mood; Thursday nights offer free Team Trivia, with House Cash for prizes; and Fridays boast Karaoke. Seasonally, there are barbecues, holiday parties, contests, and other fun things that make you keep coming back.
The food is good [pub] food. The waitstaff is friendly and fun. The atmosphere is laid-back, casual and fun-loving. And, despite the seemingly seedy location, the patrons are a veritable motley crew boasting people from all walks of life, ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
All in all - just a fun place to chill out and throw back some beers in the evenings or over the weekend. Bring your friends, or make new ones when you arrive.
