How fun! Boom Boom La Rue is feathers galore! If you are in need of a stunning head piece (who isn't at some time) this is the place to go. The store has many, many beautiful models on display. If you'd like a custom piece the owner, Sherman, can work his magic. (Note: He is generally in the store after 4pm. No photos posted as they are not allowed. I asked!)
Girly costumes and accessories abound. Sizing generally is geared more for men. I skipped away with incredibly unique necklaces and earrings. I was shocked at how reasonable the pricing is. Scoop up false eyelashes, wigs, shoes (again, for men, or women with larger sizing needs), hosiery, gloves, crystals and makeup. Oh! And boas!
The lovely gentlemen who helped me had the patience of a saint. (Even though I must have asked to see half the necklaces on sale :)
There are *so* many options you'll be excited for your next costume need. I know I am!
(Be sure to check-in on Yelp. After I left I realized there was a 'Buy $75 for $50 offer. AND free stick on nails with purchase. Oof!)Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Howie W.Phoenix, AZ23222Feb 4, 2017
One of the best shopping experiences ever. The owner was incredibly helpful when we needed him. We were able to walk around and browse freely. There's a little bit of everything there. I didn't know much about the wig I was gonna get, and he was so nice about helping me pick a color and style that worked for me. I stayed a little longer than I should have, just to talk to him and look at the pictures hanging up.

Years ago, I was in this store before they moved. It was funky then and it hasn't changed a bit!
I could call this a major drag queen store but really it is more. If you are a man who likes to "dress", they will have your size. If you are a woman who wants to get something that clearly isn't typical, this is the place. Frills, feathers, sequins, wickedly high heels, they do have an assortment! I sincerely doubt there are any other places in Phoenix that would have the variety in Boom Boom LaRues. Great place to make your own Halloween costume, too. Mae West and Carol Channing would right in here!
They have a small men's section that is men's stuff. clothing and shoes, part club scene, butch looks, interesting underwear and more. They did have a sharp looking pair of men's casual shoes that would have been perfect for the Arizona Summer. Darn, they didn't have my size.
I heard the owner talking about parties and events they arrange out in the community. Want some different ideas for entertainments. Check with them.
I would never dress up in women's clothes, personally. I can't tell you if they are moderate or pricey. I would imagine they might be a more expensive. There is merchandise here I truly believe you aren't going to find many other places. Their men's stuff seemed reasonable enough.
Have an older person in your life. The poor thing can only have room for so many knick knacks. Go get her something really crazy here. She might like it!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jun 23, 2013Previous reviewI can't say this is a store I would normally shop in. If you are into "dressing up", I think it would be in interesting for men and women, young or old. They certainly are not lacking for inventory.

If anything, this is a fun place to look around. It's like looking through your drag mother's attic. Boom Boom La Rue's is situated in its own pavillion in the Antiques Marketplace. It isn't a drag superstore; it's just a small little annex in the main building. They have a lot of women's clothes that are obviously not for women and gaudy accessories are plentiful. The clothes are really just hyperbolic interpretations of what women wear. One can find a vast selection of shoes, women's sizes 10 and up. As one who does drag only for Halloween, I must say this cozy little place offers larger shoes I need (size 12 in women's) and offers also a fun little stop if I'm in the building.

I am so sorry. My account was hacked by a asshole ex-friend . I love your store. The original has to stay up while I'm going through legal crap. I am so sorry. I would never say that. I love your heels. I wear them whenever I can. I am so sorry. I love your stuff.

I find it interesting that a non-shopper would make such a statement, since most of our customers always comment on how good our prices our and how we are lower than stores in the area including Wal-Mart, KMart, etc . . . .
Mar 12, 2013Previous reviewFun if you're a drag queen with disposable income. But for a guy who's just buying heels for fun , not the best. I love their catalogues and wide selection , but the prices are off the charts. I'm not a drag queen , and I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.

Boom Boom La Rue's is by far the best! Going in there is like visiting a toy store. The costumes are over the top, the wigs are to die for and the customer service is super fabulous! Joseph and Sherman work so hard and are very talented at what they do. My company "Scandalesque" shops there often. I also send all my Burlesque students to Boom Boom's to get professional critiques and custom made costumes. Adore them so much! Highly recommend visiting them. Tell them Pyrrha sent ya!

I am truly upset that I have to write this review .... I have been going to this store for nearly two years now . Getting jewelry an wigs or lashes ! Joseph who works there is the sweetest person you will meet . He always remembers me an is beyond kind .. My review for him if it was only him 1000 stars ..
The other person who also runs this store is Sherman I have seen him in passing a few times is the opposite of Joseph . I went in on a weekend to get a few things .. An let's say I pretty much walked out of the store crying . I went in an I walked right past the registers straight to the wigs, normally if Joseph was there I would chat a bit an then head to the wig section . But since it was busy an it looked like Sherman was ringing someone up . I went on ahead . No more then a Minute later Sherman came to the back with another person . An I looked up an said hi . Sherman then goes , your not allowed to have that kind of purse back here . I looked at him like I was a deer in headlights . He then proceeds to say either you leave your purse at the counter or you do something else with it , but you can not have it in here .. Remind you I have been in this store with that purse multiply times never ever ever ever have I been told this .. "the tone he said it in an the way he looked at me " caught me by surprise far from warm an kind . It was a look of discuss an down right rude an insulting . When I go tell him I don't understand why he begins to get even more disrespectful. He then begins to use his hand to mock me an starts rolling his eyes .. In Front of everyone in the store . So I decided to leave . I had got home an called the store so I could tell Tell Joseph my experience . When I called Sherman had answered an I asked for Joseph he goes he isn't here can I leave a message . An I politely told him it's actually about him an how he treated me .. Sherman then. Cuts me off an goes first off you came in here an went straight to the back acting like you where going to steal so if you had acknowledge me when you came in there wouldn't have been a seen .. An he kept going on an on .. Would not let me talk then at the end of the call goes . Joseph has no ruling in here . An you are no longer welcomed in the store then hung up !!
I use to love this store I have referred friends / been going there for a while . But the way Sherman treated me an acted is enough to never go back .Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kyla M.Phoenix, AZ6103Aug 14, 2012
I love all things sparkly and Boom Boom La Rue's totally hit the spot. From wonderlicious wigs to couture corsets covered in crystals this amazing boutique is my new best friend . Joseph and Sherman's hand made creations are perfect for any coming out party or Drag debut so go in and get glittered up by two of the best in the business.

For all that don't know, this shop is geared towards drag queens. However, all are welcome here! The costumes are a bit out-dated and way overpriced. The mens clothing area leaves a lot to be desired. You can find better products and prices at many other stores in the valley.
