I agree that the place is charming, and far be it from me to compare it to anything else in Yucaipa, given that I had no idea what or where Yucaipa was until it popped up on the GPS.
So chalk this review up to a snobby tourist passing through if you like. But this wet smothered carnitas burrito with green chili was the definition of average.
Huge, yes. Stuffed with all sorts of things, yes. Some of the meat was cooked well, and the rest was overcooked. The green chili was very watery, and tasted essentially like Trader Joe's chile verde, which is fine, but not what I was expecting.
I enjoyed sitting outside under the awning, though - the temperature was a cool 96 degrees and they had the swamp cooler on, throwing a cool mist over everything. I ended up leaving my jacket on my chair, driving a quarter of the way to Big Bear Lake, and having to turn around to go back and get it. It was still there, in the same place, being deliberately avoided by all the other customers.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jul 15, 2011
Why have I waited so long to try this place? My husband has been reluctant to go on the weekend since I was pretty sure they didn't have beer. I worked late last night and didn't feel like cooking, nor did I feel like hitting Del Taco. Bonita's is awesome and I will have to resist the urge to go there tonight.
It's basically just a taco stand where you order at one window and pick up your food at the other -- whether you are eating in the patio or taking it home. The menu contains many authentic Mexican dishes and is much more extensive than Bonita's diminutive exterior would lead you to believe. The prices are all really reasonable, you can feed a family of four for under $20 easily. The patio is the only seating and it's cute. They have lots of plants to hide the view of the parking lot. This place has tons of charm and will be even more awesome when the construction on the Blvd is done, although they still had plenty of customers!
We had Tacos al Pastor and my husband said they were top notch. I had to talk my son out of the Gringo taco, no way I'm ordering that! He had the California burrito, which was loaded with steak and french fries, he loved it though. They have kids plates, but also little Jr. burritos, my daughter was thrilled. They have salads, combo plates and a few other vegetarian options. I settled on the veggie taco and was wishing they had potato tacos because it had sour cream on it. It was loaded with delicious hot salsa and I also loaded it up with their spicy green sauce. Slater enough homemade hot sauces on just about anything and I'm happy.
I'm in!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elton W.Los Angeles, CA1401129104Aug 29, 2012
Disappointed in the California burrito here.
Got to enjoy my meal sitting next to a couple of crackheads.
They were actually a couple.
The woman was pregnant.
Needless to say, outdoor seating atmosphere lacking (flies).
But would be forgivable with better California burrito.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Paul M.Yucaipa, CA1373012Mar 28, 2014
Second time here and it is awesome. Great carne asada and generous portions for all of the plates. Really nice shaded area especially because there is no inside seating.
It's in upper Yucaipa so it's a ways off the freeway but it is worth it!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lesley S.San Antonio, TX105312291435Dec 2, 2015
So we decided to pick up some Mexican so no one had to cook since the whole family was under the weather. Apparently it's under new ownership. I seen all the good reviews before it changed and didn't read the change part.
#1 The GPS is wrong. They are off the main road.
#2 Their rice is terrible. It's bland. You are better off eating white rice. It doesn't taste any different.
#3 Al Pastor taco was 3 out of a 5. Ok but I wouldn't get again. Carnitas were 2/5. Meat was tough.
Garbage burrito no beans was good
Chile Rellano wasn't good. She didn't like the way it was cooked.
Chile Verde was really good. I wasn't a fan of any of the salsas.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sarah G.Yucaipa, CA3538206May 25, 2014
This is kinda a no brain-er. Talk to just about anyone in Yucaipa and they know of and love this great little gem. I have been coming here now for about 3 years even before I moved here. I am a fan. I bring all my friends here they are fans too. The only thing I noticed that is different is the red sauce for the enchiladas. It tastes like spaghetti sauce, its kinda gross now. It never was like that before. The prices have gone up too and while we still eat here and love it, we don't eat here as often as we would like to, if they were a lil lower.
5 stars if they would fix the red enchilada sauce and have better combo prices, just saying.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 115416309Feb 9, 2014
This is good Mexican food! Chile verde burrito...delish! Veggie burrito...fab! Kids bean and rice burrito...they enjoyed it! Chips and salsa...perfect!
This is an outdoor restaurant with seats under a covered patio and seats in front near the sidewalk. We really enjoyed everything about it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica I.Yucaipa, CA10651Nov 11, 2015

The food kind of tastes the same, but is a little off...the chicken is still grilled which is good. But the rice tastes generic and the salsas are a little different.
The menudo sucks. It's all water pretty much. Not a lot of flavor. Or meat. Or hominy. I ate it felt like something was missing. Like, the menudo part.
Two stars because the green hot salsa was okay and the chicken is grilled.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jessica S.Colton, CA932510May 13, 2015
I paid $10.75 for carne asada fries, where the fries weren't even cooked. The fries were white, limp, and soggy. The toppings were tasty, but I had to pay $2. extra, on top of the $8.75 price, to add beans. That was the most expensive I've ever paid for carne asada fries, and to have them not even be cooked properly was a major fail.
The second fail was when I ordered the chicken taquito plate, which was on special, with all rice instead of the listed rice and beans. Apparently, ordering anything different causes you to be charged more. It's a dumb policy, but I can live with it.
What I can't live with is that the cashier charged me extra without bothering to tell me. I discovered it while I was waiting for my food, and questioned the woman who gave me my food. She walked away for a couple minutes, and a third woman came over to tell me why I was charged more. So, the cashier charged me more without bothering to tell me, and then couldn't be bothered to come over and tell me why. Way to treat your customers like crap, Bonita's.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
