Bonchon

Went with a party of 22 (it was a birthday dinner) and let me tell you- the host (E. Segar) who was organizing our group was SO HELPFUL and nice. His service is literally the top reason why I just have to update my review.

We had two different tables but no worries, our waiter was quick at our table and the food came out pretty fast.

We ordered 5 wing combos with half and half. Some ordered rice plates, bibimbap, wine, and okonomiyaki.

I am a sucky for their okonomiyaki. Please consider ordering it! It's like a pancake but with bonito flakes that freak everyone out because it looks like it's moving from the heal. Some squid and yummy yummy sauce. If you like takoyaki, you will like this appetizer.

The wings were good portioned and didn't disappoint either.

Spicy ALERT: the spicy option for the fried chicken is REALLY SPICY so beware! Today we decided to have the soy garlic flavor and it was tasty as always! The chicken is breaded and double fried before being tossed in sauce for that extra perfect crunch! Also know that their drum sticks are HUGE (the size of my face) if you decide to try them out~ The tteokbokki was also pretty spicy but enjoyable The bulgogi udon had a strong shittake mushroom based broth flavor and had an overall very comforting taste

10/10 fried chicken craving satisfied

Had a gift card to Bonchon and finally decided to check it out. We ordered Tteobokki, Popcorn shrimp and a half&half order of boneless chicken with soy garlic and spicy sauce.

The popcorn shrimp was probably the best out of the 3. A bit salty but crispy enough. The Korean fried chicken was extremely disappointing. It was very dry, the actual chicken had no seasoning, and the breading was extremely tough. Both the soy garlic and spicy sauces just didn't have a good enough taste to redeem the chicken. I always expect KFC to be juicy and crispy but I got neither at Bonchon.

The Tteobokki was quite spicy and mind you, I can handle spice but it was extremely hot so be forewarned. The texture of the rice cakes and the fishcakes was on point though. Probably won't come back but glad I gave it a try.

Crispy Chicken will not lie. It was gas. Both recovering from illness (might have been COVID-related we don't really know, or believe in that kind of stuff.)

Lots of door-dashers good for them, we get it you have a car. Has nothing to do with restaurant just a little salty we had to walk.

Server asked if we would like a box and my date promised him we would finish every last bite of chicken (we did not) had to pay triple for lying. It was bad bad bad.

Ordered food for delivery. Delivery person couldn't find our house which was unbelievable. Called the restaurant and told them and they took zero responsibility and would not resend the order. Incredible!!!

Food was delish have been going here for a long time never disappointed. Had the chicken wings half and half white rice and kimchi. Amazingly and flavorful. The spicy one make sure you have your radishes close by lol. Service was great they're two gentlemen there that are very helpful and making sure you are all set. Very good customer service. Ambience great as well. Very busy but by the taste of this food you know why. When you are in the area please go.

Ordered the family meal (12 wings + 6 drum sticks, half plain, half soy garlic, fried rice, and French fries) and japchae.

The chicken was a good portion and extremely crispy. When they say plain chicken, they do mean plain, it didn't even taste like the chicken was salted which is not the norm for Korean chicken. Definitely order with sauce.

The fried rice was good but the portion size was disappointing, definitely not enough for a family meal.

French fries were really good, well seasoned, crispy, freshly fried.

Japchae was good, on the sweeter side, the noodle portion was good but for the price was really light on beef.

Overall the food was good.

We enjoyed everything. The combo was flavorful and spicy. Super crispy, and even stays that way the next day (I had a couple of leftover pieces the next day). We also enjoyed the bulgogi fries. It was a combo of flavors I didn't know I needed... but now I definitely do: cheesy, kimchi, scallion-y, and sweet thinly cut bulgogi meat on top of fries.

I visited BonChon for a quick lunch before going to a concert. We (group of three) ordered two lunch specials, which came with 4 pieces of wings and 2 drumsticks with a side of pickled radish and rice. For main dishes, we ordered the tteokbokki and takoyaki as a starter. The KFC was pretty good, crunchy, flavors weren't overpowering and were pretty filling. It was my first time trying gimmari, or Korean deep-fried seaweed rolls and it was super good. The tteokbokki was also good shareable portion for us. I think BonChon is great to go on a date if you want leftovers or with a group of friends. We paid $20 each and were pretty full afterward so it was definitely worth it. Service was also fast and friendly as well. I'd definitely go back!

I wasn't expecting much to begin with, the bar was already set pretty low, but they somehow managed to rank lower.

The waitress/host was very nice, but that was the only good thing about this restaurant. The server looked like a random bystander, wearing regular clothes like he just came in off the street, delivered the wrong menu item and acted confused about it. Pretty sure he was high. We ordered tenders, he said "here's your wings" and they were actually drumsticks. It took 30 minutes for our tenders to come out. The fried rice was cold as soon as it came out, flavorless, and had a hair in it. The water was literally just tap water, I think it had one ice cube.

We were perfectly respectful and gracious to the wait staff, as service workers ourselves, but they still talked crap about us sending the drumsticks back, scoffing in front of us. Terrible attitudes, 0 work ethic, and mediocre food. The dining area was very average, the booths were very worn, but I didn't notice until we left how gross they were. As we left, not a single employee said goodbye, everyone was sitting down on their phones. We will not be returning.

And as I write this, my stomach is starting to feel sick. Hope I didn't get food poisoning.

The food is delicious, very salty however. The most disappointing thing was the price. Honestly, firstly, if you order from their site, you get the real pricing which was still way too much, sort of unreasonably high. The serving sizes is small based on their pricing. Like 16 dollars for about 3 dollars worth of fried rice. 50 dollars for about 25 dollars worth of fried chicken etc. The problem is that their own delivery system doesn't reach a wide range of Boston so one has to use Grubhub. If you compare prices, you will see that they increase the amount by about 25%! It is insane! First of all grubhub allows them access to customers they didn't previously so why charge such an insane mark up? Second, we already pay a grubhub fee so it is ridiculous. They really need to factor in Grubhub as a cost of doing business. Poor practices and overly salty food makes this a 2 star.
