I need to give another shout-out to Boar Dough during this crazy time.
Don't shy away because you can't sit in the cozy room or dine al fresco on one of the lovely patio tables. Absolutely nothing is lost in translation.
They are still opened and ready to serve for take-out. There is a discount for wine and they have some great stuff. We like Brown Family Wine-Chaos Theory and Hunt and Harvest.
Tonight I had my favorite pork belly tacos, and a Cesar salad. My husband had the Steak Frite and our oldest daughter enjoyed the fried chicken. Our picky little one devoured a pepperoni pizza and we each ate every bite.
It's always nice to go out but if you need to stay at home, you might as well enjoy some delicious food.
Pictured here are the tacos, steak and salad and of course, the Chaos Theory.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 19, 2015Previous reviewIn 2013 I celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary in Paris with my husband. Everyday we sat outside a cafe drinking wine and eating the daily specials. Heaven, right? Who would have thought, I could do the same thing in my own back yard.
Boar Dough is simply the closest thing to Paris that you will find in the Los Angeles / Conejo Valley area.
The wine list is just great. I've sampled several different ones. One time we didn't care for our selection and they brought us another right away.
The food is just delicious. Brussel sprouts are a must every visit and the pates are all fab. Salads are fresh and light and the chef is very accommodating to dietary restrictions.
The staff has always been friendly and helpful. Even on busy nights when we showed up without a reservation.
Truly I don't understand the few bad reviews they have gotten. Perhaps the Yelpers had a bad day?
I hesitated to write this because once word is out, it will be hard to get a table but really, you gotta try it.
Good service. Yummy wine and delicious food. All with a European flair. Sit outside and close your eyes. You deserve a European vacation. - Bjyorn N.Austin, TX2214Nov 30, 2023
Avoid, go anywhere else, you're welcome.
The owner was so dis-interested in anything but smoking his vape, he couldn't be bothered and the menu options were so limited, no pizza, no salmon, no polenta, no salads. So basically 2/3 of the menu unavailable on a busy Thursday night. Clearly this place is on it's death bed, shut it down. Our check came to $117, and I couldn't finish my hangar steak which was tasteless and even though I ordered the steak with mushrooms, I received steak and fries. I guess you're supposed to get hammered there and not care as the wine list is extensive, but the service was so bad that I couldn't even order a second glass.
The geriatric clientele may not be able to remember what they ordered, or care that the food has no flavor, that's the only reason that the doors are still open.Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 21, 2023
Came here tonight as a group of 9 for a friend's birthday dinner. All I can say is, this place seems to be in its death throes.
The beer selection on the menu is expansive... but all they had were bottles of common beer. And they ran out of the Stella, that the group was drinking, after 5 beers total. How does this happen?
Food selection includes many pizzas... but they had no pizza available.
Ditto some other menu items... but the place was empty.
Ordered appetizers, dates with Manchego cheese and a couple orders of roasted Brussels sprouts. The serving of the dates fit into a very tiny bowl, 3 inches diameter, and there were 8. The Brussels sprouts were in a parfait type glass, and it was only the leaves, not the full sprout. So maybe each appetizer dish is 3-4 sprouts each?
Entrees were undersized and mediocre at best.
The waitress was nice and very apologetic. There was nothing else redeemable about this meal or this restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Liz A.Chatsworth, CA906814Jun 25, 2022
First of all, the food and wine was all delicious. We ordered the white wine flight, Brussels Sprouts appetizer, Mary's organic spicy chicken, steak frites, beignets and cappuccinos (date night ftw). The ambiance was otherwise nice and relaxing and fun, with a Beatles theme throughout.
We learned that they were quite short handed so the service was subpar, but the servers were kind and accommodating.
We did not receive our Brussels sprouts, but our food made us quite full anyway so, ok. They also were out of hanger steak, so they gave us a different cut of meat with the steak frites, which was ok, but not as tasty.
Our issue was unfortunately with the owner. He was crass, made rude comments about his patrons out loud (jokes at their expense to other patrons) and was seemingly rude and careless to his staff and business management. Every patron outside where we were sitting seemed to be frustrated or uncomfortable by their experience.
My advice to the owner, be respectful to all of your patrons and be professional. No one wants to hear you comment on a patron's physique or your drug history. We just want good service and good food.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - Jennifer N.Los Angeles, CA11182Jun 21, 2023

I don't usually feel compelled to leave a review, but I though their wine list was exceptional. Not run of the mill and I appreciated that! Great service and loved the ambience.

Went over the weekend. Saturday 6.15 pm With wife and daughter. Made earlier reservation . Food was decent. Small table for 3. Price on the medium side. Took a while to get our order taken although they were not too busy. Moderate selection. Food was decent. Portions on the small size. My salmon was tiny. It was a decent place. I'd go again. I take my reviews seriously,

I had the worst experience tonight at this establishment.
I ordered the "brussels sprouts" for $18, and and it was a bowl full of browned/burnt leaves - there was not a single full head in the entire bowl.
The entire contents of the bowl weighed as much as a feather.
I figured it was a kitchen error, no big deal.
Politely, I called over the gentleman from whom I placed the order (heavier set man, late fifties/early sixties), and I explained the situation to him, and said I'd be happy to try again, or just order the Cobb Salad if they are 86'd on brussels sprouts.
He snapped at me. He said, "what do you want me to do?"
.....I explained the situation to him a second time.... and again stated my request to swap the mishap for a Cobb salad instead.
He interrupted me and said, "this is our brussels sprouts. This is how we do it here," to which I meekly replied..."but there is no food in the bowl."
He cut me off again and replied, "Sorry, you're not getting a refund, or another meal."
JUST LIKE THAT. While scowling at me.
The two women I was dining with were slack-jawed. He was so hostile. And so unusual. He seemed so miserable and was strangely taking it out on me.
I have never been treated so poorly in any restaurant.
I would like to speak to the owner (assuming it's not this man) and I will be calling tomorrow to find him/her.
I demand a refund. I had to leave my evening with girlfriends early to make secondary dinner arrangements for myself since I didn't get any food to eat at Boar Dough.
Until then, I'll be speaking to everyone I know (which is a LOT of people in the Calabasas/Agoura/WLV/TO area) warning them to never give their business to Boar Dough.Helpful 7Thanks 2Love this 3Oh no 2 - Scott F.Los Angeles, CA05Feb 25, 2023
ASK TO SEE YOUR BILL! We had a nice dinner, and when we were ready for the check, the owner (60s, dry personality, potbellied) came to the table and said "287 - do you want to split it 3 ways?". In the bustle of handing him our 3 credit cards, we didn't really focus on the amount, and he never handed us a bill. Only after we paid did we start doing the math in our head and realized it was way too high. One of my friends went back to him and asked if there was a mistake, and he looked over the "bill" on his tablet and said "no, it all adds up". We thought this was odd, so my other friend went back for a second time and asked for a printed copy of the bill. The owner (lied and) said it wasn't possible to retrieve it. Luckily, my friend is an experienced waiter and he knew that was a lie. The owner kept trying to come up with excuses as to why it was too late to review the bill, and finally my friend got a menu and added up all the items we ordered, and we discovered that we were overcharged by over $150. The owner finally handed us back $150 in cash, but with no apology. If you decide to eat at this restaurant, ask for a copy of the bill, or at least do the math in your head before you turn over your credit cards like we foolishly did. If he had made an honest mistake I wouldn't be writing this review, but it appears he was intentionally trying to steal from customers. :(
This was disappointing because I had heard such good things about this restaurant. Perhaps it's nicer when the owner is not waiting tables and trying to steal your money. I saw a similar review about this owner overcharging from back in 2017, so unfortunately it seems this is not anything new for this owner, and not a one-off experience. Seems he's been honing his thievery skills for several years.
But we got our money back, so all's well that ends well.Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 2
