That one time you canceled my insurance because you mistakenly added my daughter twice on my plan... When I called, you actually asked my about my twins.. because people always name their twins the same name, right? After you dropped my insurance , you reinstated it (after many arguments and almost a phone call everyday for weeks) and forced me to pay for the time I wasn't insured.
Then 2 months later, you mistakenly over charged me.. again..
Thank god open enrollment is here, I guess,because I most definitely dropped you all like a filthy,bad,dirty heroin habit.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ashley B.Los Angeles, CA812Jan 15, 2018
I wish I didn't have to even put a rating, Blue Shield of California is the WORST insurance I have had let alone dealt with. I pay an astronomical $1300 / month to cover myself and my young daughter and have spent a least a day of my life a week on the phone with their TERRIBLE overseas customer service arguing my claims.
I have been denied monies because they continuously tell my doctors that my service is no longer valid. I HAVE NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT. They don't cover my doctor visits for my daughter or myself even though it states my plan fully covers all visits. I pay SO much money to constantly shell out more money due to their completely inefficient and awful insurance.
The best part, they charge me something different every month. One month my bill will be $700 and then the next month it will be $2000 and on and on. I come to find out that they have me slated for over $2000 owed to them because of their errors. To say that I am fed up would be the least of my arguments. This insurance company and its customer service are AWFUL - get ready to pay a lot for NOTHING.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Richard Q.Santa Monica, CA1201731Mar 23, 2016
I've never dealt with a more inept business in my entire life. I had to bring a claim to the State of California in order to try to get these guys to actually get back to me about a mistake they made with billing. You will go through tons of very well-groomed over-speaking employees to try to get the most basic thing done, and even then you will wait and wait and wait, and no one will actually get back to you as they all promised. It's a total racket, like the whole medical situation this country has been for decades. Damn.
I'm going to have to go to an HMO that has SOME kind of notion of basic decency, because both Anthem and Blue Shield are the lowest of the low for PPOs. Luckily I was able to regain sanity by binge watching the new Daredevil season on Netflix in order to calm me down from the hours on the phone with Blue Shield today.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Randal S.Long Beach, CA82328Jan 8, 2016
Wow! What can I say that hasn't already been said....this circus of a "company" (if you could call it that) is a complete joke. I have been a long time customer of theirs and always pay my bills on time, yet I have been left with no health insurance for the past three months because they claim they never received a payment even though my bank statement says otherwise.
I have been on and off the phone with them for the past few months and have always been met with incompetent representatives and supervisors that give me the same old apologies and empty promises of a quick resolution and call back. I have yet to receive one phone call back from them. Shoot, if their dumbest employee (which shouldn't be hard to find) called me back and just mumbled some unintelligible words to me I would be thrilled that at least they called me back.
It is unforgivable and disgusting with how they treat their customers, especially when the fault lies directly with them. Now I am out a few hundred bucks and have no health insurance to show for it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS "COMPANY"!!! Do not get stuck with them! Absolute joke of a company!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Suzy G.Nipomo, CA67492877Sep 18, 2015
The absolute worst. I have nothing good to say about Blue Shield. Everything about them is horrible. Their executive leadership should be ashamed.
Last year I completely snapped and sent their Sr. VP of Customer Quality the following letter:
August 7, 2014
Rob Geyer
Sr. Vice President of Customer Quality
4203 Town Center Blvd
El Dorado Hills, CA 95762
Dear Mr. Geyer,
I would like to congratulate you on the success of the recent documentary about the "Rise" of your Customer Quality department.
Your staff certainly does seem poised to replace humans as the dominant primate species here on Earth!
Here is an EXACT transcript of the one and only time someone has contacted me in the 6 months I've been trying to get the start date of my account fixed:
"This call may be recorded for quality assurance and training purposes. Hi, this is, um..., Louise from Blue Shield of California. Uh..., I'm..., um..., calling, uh..., to [MY NAME]..., uh, regarding about her..., uh, open file here at Blue Shield. Mmm, looks like, uh, Covered California, uh, can't do anything about this, um..., effective date or we are trying to..., uh...move the termination date that it was never enforced, uh, but since they that cannot do anything about this so I advise the man advise [MY NAME] to file an appeal at CoveredCA.com to make the plan never existed and tell...tell them to give herself, uh, or call, um, Covered California. Okay, here's the reference number from the call from Covered California. It's XXXX. And the rep...rep...re...sentative name is Aarrrggh. Okay, that'll be all thank you. Bye bye again my name is Marine."
Covered California says they don't know what she was talking about - they have the correct start date!
Keep up the stellar work!
Yours,
A disgusted memberHelpful 9Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - William W.San Diego, CA47Mar 3, 2017
Terrible Information Systems. I experienced fraud caused on Blue Shield's System. The absolutely foolish implementation of PCP assignment. The utterly unreliable and inept information technology.
My experience with Blue Shield is absolutely terrible.
Also, if you don't like the PCP on your Blue Shield Website, you can continue to see the PCP of your choice but Blue Shield's Website will misrepresent the name of your PCP.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Patricia H.Los Angeles, CA02Jun 22, 2016
This coverage is no coverage at all!! I got tangled vessels in my cerebellum with a slow leak
diagnosed 5 days ago and I have to run around delivering the MRI cd to the neurologist for review and he confirmed the diagnosis, charged $200 co-pay, sends me for a spinal tap, another $200, also need a CT another $200, need to have an angio done today too, another $200. I call Blue to see what is going on and I'm told that even if I'm admitted that after 3 days I get charged $200 day co-pay. They said I have up to a $3,000 a year in co-pays!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What am I paying insurance for! Can't wait for open season so I can find a plan that doesn't make you more ill than you already are!!!

Horrible. The specific doctor I looked up, which was on Blue Shield's list of providers when I bought my extremely expensive "Gold" PPO plan is now "not in network", so Blue Shield is passing all costs back to me with no rate adjustments. SUCKS BALLS!!!!!!

Wish I had done more research before signing up with Blue Shield. I have had problems with them since the day I signed up. They continue to send me statements stating that I owe them money yet my bank account has been set up with auto-debit. They have sent me cancellation notices yet they continue to withdraw funds from my account. Where are these payments going if not to my account?? DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THEM.

There are ton of Blue Shields here in Yelp, so I have picked this one down the street from me to raise my clenched fist to in an act of desperate and futile defiance. The closest corporate location wins! Or loses?
Anyhow, who do these Blue Shield jokers think they're fooling jacking up my health insurance rates almost a hundred percent in the last two years? They tell me health care costs have gone up, but how can mine have gone up that much when I haven't been to a doctor's office in six years? Recently, I decided I was long overdue for a friendly physical and found myself charged for things like immunizations and portions of the physical exam itself. What gives? Preventative care anyone? God forbid I actually get really sick, as I recently discovered that I'm still potentially liable for 30% of the costs above my already astronomical deductible. And they'll no doubt come after me with an army of collectors hungry for my meager assets if it comes to that.
I have a feeling that health care is the new social security as I funnel cash into the pot to fund the exploding costs of retiring boomer's stashes of Levitra and other dubiously effective but "essential" pharmaceuticals and treatments. Or, just as likely, paying in to cover the costs of the growing number of uninsured who aren't getting covered by their WalMart-esque gigs and are forcing health care providers to harvest money from our states and folks like me.
So I send a giant gaseous cloud in Blue Shield's general direction. And I'll give five stars to the Yelper that comes up with a solid Universal Healthcare plan. In the meantime, I'm going to go and eat some fruit. And fiber.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0
