About the Business
Established in 1995. The Blind Tiger Brewery & Restaurant is named for the Prohibition - era custom of illegal drinking establishments displaying stuffed tigers or china tigers to alert potential patrons to the availability of il-licit alcohol after hours. In southern dialect a "tiger" was a roaring party. These "tigers" were "blind" be- cause the authorities, at least officially, did not know they existed. Welcome to our speakeasy!

I always ask other brewery's bartenders, "who has the best beer in town, other than yourself?" Most in Topeka said "Blind Tiger, no contest". Not to disparage the other breweries in town, but I can see why Blind Tiger has earned this reputation.
Blind Tiger has a good variety of beer styles available, but where they excel is in their German style offerings. The dunkel and maibock are exceptional examples of the styles, and their IPA's are very solid as well.
I'm always a little hard on BBQ restaurants, and typically, breweries tend to focus more on their beer than their food. Blind Tiger has obviously not followed this trend, as their food was almost as good as their beer.
I think the BBQ is "better than most" that I've tried in Kansas, and their brisket was sliced thick (as it should be) and not dry at all. The sauces were good, and the bbq beans had large chunks of meat in it.
All in all, if you're looking for exceptional beer and great food in Topeka, you can't go wrong with Blind Tiger.
Also - the bar staff were exceedingly friendly. It's always nice when traveling alone to have a pleasant conversation with a bartender in a new city. I hope the owner recognizes them for their professionalism and friendliness.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lori L.Kansas City, MO13418Dec 29, 2023
What a great place!!
We were in Topeka for the day and we decided this is where we wanted to eat based on reviews. Let me tell you that it stands up to the reviews. The beer is very good. The food is very good. The service is above and beyond! We came for lunch on a Friday afternoon which also happened to be my husband's birthday.
We each ordered a beer, both really good, raspberry wheat for me and pale ale for him. I had the smoked prime rib dinner and he had a ribeye. I then got a flight of beers he had another beer! Come and enjoy!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1944071010Mar 11, 2024Updated review5 check-ins

Not a beer drinker so I didn't partake in those but for whoever is this place has a lot of their own beer. Chicken fried chicken was soo tender. I recommend it. Apparently it's a favorite around here.

Well known as a place for steak and other great food. Never heard a bad word about this place other than the huge stairway to the second floor and only entrance Rain, Snow, ice or
long walk is not your thing, better wait for better weather .Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jan 11, 2024Previous reviewAn old staple of Topeka. A full line of brews, sports Tv's, good service.. A long set up stairs up from the parking lot keeps this from being a 5. The BBQ choices, steaks, fish and chips, etc are all good. Older atmosphere and the floor creeks but hey, so do some of us when we walk. Don't miss choosing this place in your future.

I think this is a cool spot. I was passing thru and wanted a Topeka specific vibe/ tradition place and wasn't disappointed.
The beer I had was fantastic. Exactly as the wait staff presented it. Wish I had gotten a growler but I was flying home in a few days so it wasn't plausible.
The food was great. I had the steakhouse burger which is a mix of the trimmings on their steaks. Im not a burger guy. But I read the description and had to try it. It was really awesome. Grilled sour dough bread.
The pickle with it was great. So great. Wish I had one right now. Definitely give it a try if just visiting.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Dec 9, 2023
Walking in the restaurant is beautiful and very festive. Fun place to watch your local sports team play on tv. Our waitress was so sweet and very attentive to the needs of our table. And the food is delicious great portion sizes for the price.

Stopped in for lunch today while working in Topeka. So pleased to see the Lent specials and the multiple seafood options. Walking in you are immediately greeted by a wonderful hostess who offered multiple seating options as the weather was perfect to sit outside. I choose to sit in their beautiful bar area and work a bit. Crowd noise was soft, overhead music not intrusive and service was perfect. Ordered blackened salmon and could not have been more pleased. So nice to have food served hot, fresh, and prompt. There was no rush from the staff to eat and leave even though they were busy, just great food and great service. Can't wait to come back and try some of the other items as the menu looks great.

All staff had mask on and were very aware of their distance not only with guest but with each other. Was greater within 1 minute by a manager after being seated and offered beer samples to try. She made a couple recommendations and brought me what seemed to be 3-4 ounce sample. Really unique choices along with the usual brew styles. Chose a Heather Ale and it was so good for an easy drinking beer. Light, great flavor and perfect temperature. My server for lunch, Kaitlyn, was very knowledgeable and helpful in making a staff recommendation for lunch. Went with blackened salmon and mashed potatoes. Finally, a place that knows how to blacken fish. Thank you for the flavor and perfect cooking practice. Nice and medium on the salmon and the potatoes were hot.
Very pleased that I stopped here for lunch, good food, beer and atmosphere. But the best selling point was the service and attention to detail by Kaitlyn. Because of here as well as the rest of the staff, they have a new friend. - Deana C.Colorado Springs, CO232417454Sep 30, 2023Updated review
I ordered the turkey club sandwich with my party but we had to sit at a separate table since the table we were given was entirely too small. I specifically asked for no chipotle mayo and I was given double.
That was not only the problem here is the following list:
1) charged gratitutity though we sat at a separate table.
2) Our food was excessively late and we had to take it to go
3) when I arrived home I noticed I had chipotle mayo on both sides of my bun when I asked for it not to be on my sandwich
Floor was dirty, bathroom was crowded, waitstaff was lurking around.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 4Oh no 2Nov 14, 2022Previous reviewI loved the food and wished I could give this place a five star review however the handicap parking is located on the backside of the building which is extremely DARK! Not safe!!!
My first impression of the restaurant was driving by and seeing multiple police cars, police officers with drug dogs, and a man face down on the ground.
As a single woman I did not feel safe nor would I go back alone!! - Chase D.Denver, CO0712Dec 27, 2023
This place is a late 90s/early 00's craft beer time capsule. The food, the beer, and the ambience all come together to create a unqiue and great experience. For all craft enthusiasts tired of the pop up slushie beer breweries getting slapped together in warehouses on the edge of every town, BT is a long, refreshing swig of craft nostolgia.

Cool place to eat at in Topeka. Service was friendly and pretty good food. I tried the Texas Roadrunner and i really enjoyed the brisket it had even though it was lukewarm but other than that it was great and i love that a lot of their dishes use local meats.
