Oops!
The food looked so delicious, I didn't take a picture.
The looks were not disappointing, the food was warm, cooked perfectly and seasoned to taste.
I was impressed with the service and quaility of food.
If you are in search of a decent meal that imitates a home cooked meal , black pea is the place.
I ordered food for a neighbor, and he loved his meal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lisa C.Elkton, MD01318Jul 24, 2022
I have eaten at this restaurant twice. I had their roast beef the first time and it was AMAZING the roast beef was very tender and the mashed potatoes were made to perfection. I just ate there today and the experience wasn't as great. I had a cheeseburger which was very greasy and lacked taste. I also had their cherry cobbler which was warmed up nicely with a scoop of ice cream, but it was just ok. It was very mushy and also lacked taste. I'll continue to go back and try other things on their menu because my first meal with them was very good.
Also, they opened at 11am and I was there at 12 and their bathrooms has not paper towels or soap in one of their two dispensers and the toilets looked like they had not been scrubbed in a while.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 222953074Mar 18, 2021
I haven't been to Black Eyed Pea since before the pandemic. I have been wanting comfort food. Only 40% of the tables are being used and bar seating is closed. I had their large glass of iced tea, their killer soft wheat rolls and moist cornbread with lots of soft butter. No honey though (since they used to be in squirt bottles) I had the spinach salad with lots of bacon, blue cheese crumbles and jalapeno ranch dressing. I had their corned Beef Reuben sandwich with fried okra. I finished with the peach cobbler. All good. I will be back!!

It's our annual tradition to go here on New Year's Day to have black eyed peas as they're supposed to be good luck. The food is pretty good but it's a similar vibe to a Cracker Barrel.

My husband is taking vacation time and we don't leave town at this time of year because we stay close to the family for Christmas. So for a little fun in this freezing weather we decided to try eating out everyday at places we have never been, or places we haven't been to for a very long time.
Today was Black-Eyed Pea. We were there a little later than the lunch hour. Our server was Hollywood - and what a gem! He was very attentive and entertaining. We ordered the sample platter for appetizers and we thought about an entree he warned us that the platter would be enough for the two of us. He was right! And it was delicious. For cocktails, we asked Hollywood what good drinks they make with vodka. He said they make whatever we want - and they did! It was great. For dessert, we ordered peach cobbler to go. It was perfect.
We will definitely go back again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Julie J.Denver, CO464610Oct 10, 2022Updated review
Always good home cooking. Monday is Chicken Fried Steak. Bet ya can't guess what we had!

They have a fresh salads, good home cooking and great chicken fried steak and the cheese broccoli soup is great also. I change out my food but my friend always has their Caliente Burger, he swears by it. The only think that would make it more enjoyable would be to have the broccoli cut in smaller pieces.
Jan 2, 2015Previous reviewSo happy to be back in a town that has Black Eyed Pea. They still make the best Cheese Broccoli Soup! Love the Chicken Fried Steak and having Mom's Meatloaf tonight. Good size portions feed my mother and I when we share an entree with a cup of soup!

The Black-eyed Pea was started in Dallas in 1975. I lived in Dallas ten years later and frequently enjoyed their classic, southern comfort food. All of the vegetables and sides were consistently tasty and well-prepared in addition to quality entrees.
Unfortunately the original owners sold the business and, while it eventually expanded to 130 locations, it went through many changes of ownership--ending with bankruptcy in 2001 and again in 2015. Fortunately the Colorado stores have been separately owned since 2008. There are now nine locations in Colorado and one left in Texas.
I had not been to the Pea for 10 or 15 years, but I've driven past this spot a number of times recently and had a yen to give it a try. There's a full bar these days and the menu has expanded to include more appetizers, seafood, and grilled items. My old favorites are still there, though.
I ordered the pot roast with the baked squash casserole and cornbread stuffing plus additional sides of red beans and rice and cole slaw. The serving of pot roast was reasonable although the only visible vegetables in the dish were two tiny carrots. The meat itself was flavorful, but tough. Not the tender dish I remembered.
The portions of the two included vegetables were small. The squash, which was always one of my favorites, was as good as I remembered. The stuffing was very flavorful, but was also very wet and gummy. The red beans and rice was pretty good, except that there was hardly any rice, so it was unbalanced. The cole slaw was great, but came in an eight ounce container that was only one third full. I ate it in about three bites. The serving of the accompanying corn bread was generous (five pieces), but it was very dry, even after adding butter and honey.
I was disappointed. This place could still be great with just a little more attention to detail, but too many things were off on this visit.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 5, 2018
I was was scouring Yelp for a place to eat in the not-so-Cherry Creek area while staying at the Fairfield and came across this place. The reviews were not great but I was intrigued by the menu. I didn't want to drive far and I didn't want to eat at a place that I had already been so I ended up here at Black-Eyed Pea.
We walked in an hour before closing and the place was quite busy. We were immediately greeted and seated in what seemed to be the only open table. We had plenty of time to review the large menu as we had all decided on what we were going to order before anyone showed up to get our drink order. Once someone showed up we placed our orders. I ordered the ribeye steak with grilled shrimp, mac n' cheese and a loaded baked potato; my daughter ordered the Cobb Salad; my wife ordered a steak with baked potato and broccoli; and my son ordered the 1/3 rack of ribs.
it took quite sometime for our food to come out and we didn't see our waiter from the time we ordered until the food came out so we all needed refills on our beverages. The 3/4 orders did not come out correctly as my baked potato had no butter or sour cream, my daughter's Cobb Salad was missing Blue Cheese crumbles and my wife's steak was not cooked properly and never received her broccoli. I had to notify the hostess to find our waiter because we didn't see him after he dropped off the food. My daughter ate the salad without the bleu cheese, my wife eventually able to send her steak back thanks to the hostess. My son liked the ribs and I loved my steak, shrimp and mac n' cheese. I must admit that my son and I enjoyed our food more than the others.
I really think this place could be 4 star restaurant if management cared. I'm sure they have seen enough Yelp reviews to know where the problems are. The food is good and the homestyle menu has so many offerings. The prices are fair but the service and order accuracy is lacking. 2.5 Stars!Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 11Oh no 0 - Sophia A.Denver, CO40150318Jun 1, 2021Updated review
The specials here are always great! The bread rolls and cornbread are delicious. There are daily specials and daily soup specials, too! You gotta eat here. I would every day if I could, but I gotta watch my figure. Down home comfort food.

Spectacular rolls, broccoli cheese soup, and split a chicken fried chicken. Everything was cooked and seasoned, delicious half lb chocolate cake is enough to share with at least 3 people.

It's been awhile since our last visit but while visiting another restaurant, reminded me to visit and here we are.
Nothing has changed other than no wait. Immediately sat down and our friendly server took the drink order and I opted for 22 oz. Goose IPA for $6. I couldn't pass the deal.
I usually check out what other people are eating and order the same item. That turned out to be today's special and it was great price.
Corn bread and fluffy rolls with honey and large meal, I had hard time finishing my beer.
Next time, take half home and give plenty of room for the beer.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
