I must say, black crown is one of my favorite places to grab a cocktail.
The interior is absolutely gorgeous. Most of the pieces inside are for sale.. I wish I could bring everything home :) And the patio... Oh the patio!!
The vibe is very relaxed. All different kinds of people, although primarily gay, but still a great place for everyone.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Lani P.Las Vegas, NV4523266786Feb 25, 2015
So had the wonderful pleasure of going her for the first time yesterday and I really liked it. I met a friend there about 4pm or so. I got a bit lost because it like a hidden gem, camouflaged within the area. If I were walking and looking for it, I'd probably still not
find it, then again I really have no sense of direction to begin with. :-)
I was a bit frazzled and on edge for some reason, but I did manage to get a good look at the bottom floor area right next to the restrooms. I really love little knick knacks in the curio's, It's like my fairie figurines set up in my home. I don't know exactly what look it's called, but it looks or reminds of the Victorian Era, well in movies and novels. We went up stairs and were the only ones, because it was initally blocked off, but their were only like 4 people at the bar and then us. We sat on the sofas up stairs and looking around, I felt like I was in the move Age of Innocence, but without much clutter, as where actual VIctorian decor looks to me like aristocratic Hoarders who tried to make it fashionable & succeeded for a time being.
This place is absolutely charming, quaint, an old fashion sophistacation to it and some how gave me the feeling being inncocent like a little girl, playing in her doll house. I usually like to examine and look around more, but circumstances refrained me from walking away from my friend. I'm assuming it's completely different during the night as I just looked up their website. It's like a 180.. casual day, dressy night I'm assuming, or so it seems advertised.
I'm glad I was able to experience this place, but if not for my friend knowing of it, I sure as HEll would never have gone because It's so dang far from where I live! Broomfield/wesm near flat irons mall. I'm sure their are those who know what I'm talking about. I'd like to go again both day and maybe try the night time too, but Not if I have to drive.. Aw Hell NO! Especially since I'd like to get a actual liquor drink.
I drove so all I had was club w/splash of cran. well not need to review that right? (rhetorical) hahahah This is actually a Perfect place in the late afternoon early evening I'd say, for a date, meet up or just wanting to converse with your group or person. Lucky people who live near this place because I'd make it my go to place for sure If I were near it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 19, 2014
I woke this morning with my sparkly tank top balled up in bed with me, my phone lost, and the song "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" playing in my head. I knew a few things.. 1. I drank many vodka drinks, 2. I made a date for breakfast Monday morning, 3. I can't wait to go back to Black Crown.
Sean and I arrived to find our friends grabbed the table right in front of the grand piano, and were all participating in karaoke. I have horrible stage fright and a worse singing voice, so even the sing alongs had me worried. We ordered some food and were very pleatanly surprised at the quality of the crab wontons, and seared scallops.
After a few incredible drinks (one was vodka, prosecco, st. germaine with a twist of lemon. The other many were Moscow Mules), I was belting them out. Badly.
The crowd was eclectic, friendly, and happy (which is not a euphemism for gay, but it was also predominantly gay). The attire ranged from shorts and t-shirts to evening dresses. I fit in with my sequin top and cut offs, but could have taken it up a notch too.
I am so happy this gem is walking distance from my house because I intend to make Black Crown a staple in my life.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Oct 25, 2011
The Black Crown Lounge to say the least is a very unique place. It is located off of Broadway in Denver in the antique district and makes sure to bring that into it's theme. The lounge sells a great deal of antiques which are for sale as well as all kinds of nooks to go into and hang out. The back yard or patio if you will has these said nooks along with calming water features. Besides the fact that the place sells many antiques they also serve drinks as well so this makes the atmosphere more than intriguing. The staff are helpful and friendly.
While The Black Crown is listed as one of Denver's gay bars and indeed it was very gay(Drag queens like to hang out here as well as couples) the place is more than friendly to anybody that may venture in.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jen W.Denver, CO86502652Aug 26, 2011
We stumbled upon the Black Crown last night and what an unexpected delight! The decor is definitely over the top with a Victorian, Elizabethan, Great Gatsby vibe! There is a piano in the middle of the living room - yes living room as it truly feels like you are walking into someones magical home. There are many rooms to explore and the bar has beautiful crystal decanters among the many ornate objects.
Filled with antiques you can purchase, twinkling lights and a super cool patio out back with a pond and couches/tables conducive to hanging around and having great conversations.
I briefly met one of the owners - he was welcoming and interested in how we heard about the crown - we chatted about his background in interior design, the antique shop and plans to have small plates served in the fall.
The bar was closing so we just grabbed some beers - I can't tell you about the drinks (yet) but I hear they are good.
Definitely like no other place I have been in Denver.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 7, 2014
Great vibe. 4 of us came in; had drinks; ate several small plates. Excellent place to talk and unwind. Choose your couch. Choose your table. Fun!
The most memorable drink for my wife--the sugar cookie with cinnamon sugar on the rim. I enjoyed the maple agave.
The best small plate--tiger prawn shrimp. Philo dough wrapped around a cheesy filled shrimp center. Amazing. I cannot believe this place does not fill to capacit, and we arrived on a Friday for live music. Reluctant to tell others so I can return without a crowd.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 6, 2011
What an awesome bar! I went with a couple of friends and we all loved this place. It's an exquisite combination of an antique shop and a bar. Many of the decorations are for sale, and between the couches, patio, and bar everyone can find a great place to unwind!
We were served by the muscular shaved headed bartender who was funny and made great drinks. We found out he's from Texas like we were, and he recommended many great places to visit in the area.
I highly recommend this place to anyone interested in great drinks and an awesome atmosphere.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 6, 2012Updated review
This time, on my return visit to Black Crown during mid-week Happy Hour, we were able to order appetizers from the menu.
We opted to go with 3 small plates for $25 during HappyHour. They all sounded better than they actualy tasted. The crab pizza, which was tasteless - had no actual presence of crab with far too much mayo than I would ever want to eat. Skip it. Lamb chops were a bit underseasoned and dry. The accompanying sauce didn't do much to dress these up. I think the kitchen still has a learning curve but given time, once it works out some of the kinks, this will be splendor in the midst of average on this side of town. My tip to the kitchen - simple is best. Don't try to meld too many flavors and ingrediants and fancy-schmancy stuff into small bites. Less is more here.
You will not be disappointed, though, by the warm and elegant environment and the beautiful front and back patios. (Smoking on the back patio, I believe). This will become my hang out where, after a few more times, everybody will know my name & maybe I'll have my own chaisse lounge chair (instead of a bar stool)...Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Apr 9, 2012Previous reviewLove, love, love Black Crown. I love that there is finally a bar that feels grown-up but youthful in spirit. A word of warning, food is only served here Tues. - Saturday or Sunday (can't remember which). We came on a Monday and sadly couldn't get any little bite to go with our cocktails. But, our gracious bartender whipped up some onlon dip with pretzels which took the edge off.
Piano music during happy hour. Great bar specials. Private room upstairs. Relaxing, classy atmosphere. My new favorite place! - Sasha T.Denver, CO362602615Dec 31, 2014
This place is so charming! I came here with boyfriend after we went to the ballet because we were still in formal attire and felt like doing something classier than going to the bar down the street.
This place is in what appears to be an adorable house with a big patio. When we first walked in there was some inviting decor and we approached the bartender for our first round of drinks.
We came here on a Saturday night. We had to walk around a while to find a place to sit. I imagine it is usually this busy on weekends and easier to find a spot on weekdays. Unfortunately no drinks specials, $12 for a beer and basic cocktail. Standard.
I think it is so cool how everything has a price tag! The upstairs had some beautiful pieces, I especially loved the chandeliers. My boyfriend pointed out that unfortunately it is very hard to get a view of the piano. It's true. From upstairs the railings are in the way and downstairs there are separated rooms. I don't know if it would be an easy fix, or if it is worth it, but I am sure everyone came to this piano bar for the piano and it's beautiful music.
The service here was good. We kept getting approached when our drinks were empty which I appreciate. The music was great and the atmosphere was filled with antiques. Only a $5 Uber ride from my place in Wash Park. We will be back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
