I've used big ten tires (now Pep Boys) for years for various issues. My last experience on Pelham parkway was a good one. I decided to get the Michelin's even though there was no discount so I paid full price $1500 (there may have been a rear shock in there too-can't remember). Once they were installing the tires the manager came to me and asked if I wanted an air filter and wiper blades. I chuckled in sarcasm. Then he said he could incorporate these items into the cost of the tires. That was a good experience.
Now I'm at the location on 280. I came for the rotate and balance service that is included with the original tire purchase. I was sitting by the service window when I noticed them bolting the tires back on after only rotating the tires! I told the manager and he told the service guys to do the balance then he mumbled something about not really needing a balance unless there is a vibration. The balancing is important (to me) to prevent excessive wear on these expensive tires! I also don't have a lot of extra time so I wanted all of the inclusive services done while I had the time. I usually drop off my vehicle for service but I will have to keep an eye on them from now on. If you want customer service you'll write home about, stop into Pep Boys Big 10 tires in Birmingham on Highway 280. Rica, Johnny, and the Mechanic Mike took real good care of me and my wife when we stopped in for an AC check. I called ahead to find if they had a technician available and Johnny said they did, when I arrived, just as promised my car was taken in and checked. They found the issue with the air conditioning and then Mike brought me out and showed me how my right front wheel hub was ready to fall off. Wow! I was leaving the following morning driving to Sacramento California. Mike basically saved me from a long hard road if that hub had fallen off while we were driving. I can't say enough about the way we were treated and the great service we received. Thanks.

My Wife had a blowout on a Friday afternoon and she went to a car repair chain that specialized in tires. After waiting an hour and a half just to put on her spare she decided to just go home and come back the next day to get a tire mounted. She decided to call another store to see about getting it done quicker when the original shop said it was going to be a while before she could get in. So she called the Big 10/Pep Boys store on HWY 280 to see how long she would have to wait to get a tire mounted and balanced. She was told to come over now and we will get you right in shortly. She did and was in and out before she knew it. She said the service was so friendly and non intimidating and cant imagine going anywhere else in the future. This speaks volumes to me as we know how intimidating it can be for a women to deal with those car repair businesses. She says that she loves this place.
