This was our second visit to Bernie's and both experiences were fantastic- the first it was just my husband and I and the second time we brought the kids along. We had excellent waitresses both times who both went above and beyond to make sure our meal was the best it could be. So far we've tried the hamburger steak, BBQ pork with onion rings and greens over cheese grits, pecan crusted chicken and chargrilled chicken and it was all hot, fresh, well seasoned and tasty. The side salad is very well appointed and the ranch dressing is the best I've ever had, the loaded potato soup is a great starter as well. The mozzarella sticks are MASSIVE and very unique. We have been so pleased with Bernie's and will continue to drive over from Alabaster to patronize this wonderful restaurant!

When we first went there years ago, it was really good. But I've read some recent reviews that are not good. So now I don't know, but found this unfinished review and wanted to post it, so? I don't think you would be disappointed, but to each his own.

Took a little family trip out to Columbiana to check out a place that had been recommended. I found Bernie's to have a pretty eclectic menu ranging from Italian, American, Low Country, and some burgers that looked great. My wife chose to get the crab cakes and said they were quite good. I for one wanted to try one of their specials that another restaurant in the Avondale area has. Bernie's version was Pulled Pork, Gouda Grits, Greens, and fried onion rings with their BBQ Sauce nicely portioned all over it. I did enjoy the dish but it is done a bit differently than that popular Soul Kitchen in Avondale. I hesitate to compare the two completely because of the differences but they are both worth trying for sure.
Overall a great experience and we will definitely be back to try more of the menu.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Matthew J.Columbiana, AL32Feb 24, 2010First to Review
Bernie's on Main Street is a fine addition to the "Main Street" scene in Columbiana, AL. Depending on the time of day you can either choose to order from their menu or partake from their buffet (which is the equivalent to a "meat and three" style lunch or supper).
While the buffet is usually a better deal for your money, I have never been a big fan of buffet style meals and so I usually opt to order from the menu. The menu ranges from your gourmet hamburger to your steaks and seafoods with a few sandwiches and salads thrown in the mix.
All of the items I have had at Bernie's have been good quality and I am an especially big fan of their bacon cheeseburgers (with smokehouse cheddar!) The only issue I have with this establishment is their pricing. I can't help but feel as though I am paying mostly for the atmosphere (which is a mix of hometown and fancy, where else can you find the judges, lawyers, police officers, mechanics, barbers, and construction guys all eating together... other than Davis Drugstore?).
I would recommend Bernie's on Main Street for a good business lunch or a nice dinner for those nights when you don't want to stray far from home. Oh, and its always a great get-together for lunch after church services have let out on Sunday.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nelson B.Columbiana, AL1202Feb 11, 2017
Over an hour and three of our party of 11 got their salads. Worst service I've ever had, really miss the old management. No bread, no appetizers, ran out of the entree that 5 of us had ordered. Took an unreasonable amount of time to get our drinks. Will never eat there again.

During the week Bernie's on Main is pretty good food but it seems to be hit-or-miss these days on quality I hope you eat there on a good day.

The service was terrible. The waitress forgot to give most of my friends and I refills. The food was cold and overpriced for what it actually is. The cajun shrimp platter is not worth 15 dollars and I'm sure I can find another restaurant in town much better than this establishment. I was also missing one of my sides even though the waitress was reminded of it. What is also ironic is that we called this place early on for them to be prepared but still they were not. It was disappointing to see that we waited almost two hours and it took almost an hour and twenty minutes to get food. And also my girlfriend and my cousin still have not gotten any refills but one time. Not only did they forget my side but also did not reduce the total amount. I am furious that this place cannot treat all customers equally or at least make up for their mistakes.

Great little Sunday lunch buffet spot when in the sprawling metropolis of Columbiana, AL. Mac & cheese was great. Good service.

My daughter and I were in town for the night and this restaurant was recommended to us. The atmosphere is great, as well as the service. The food is just meh. Nothing was cooked correctly and just missed the mark. I noticed there were a few Cajun Louisiana type items on the menus and asked if the owner was from Louisiana and was informed they were not so I opted for the hamburger steak. It just seemed poorly made for lack of better words. In addition it was over priced. I received only a baked potato with is for 11.95. I did hear mention that they were soon changing the menu, which it think is a good move. I think the restaurant has amazing potential, but as I stated could do better with the quality of the food.
