Bernardo's Mexican Restaurant

tldr: Wow, service is just crap now.... And food isn't quite what it was either. Heard there are new owners.

We did a Door Dash for two of the Steve burritos. Driver shows up and I take the bag and say goodbye. Once inside I discover there's only one burrito. I called the restaurant and spoke to a lady and described the situation. She asked me to hold, returns and tells me the kitchen screwed up and only made one burrito. Said she'd have them make the other. I said great and asked when it would be delivered, she was stumped and said they don't deliver. Pretty perturbed at this point because we had it Door Dashed for a reason. I ended up sending someone to pick it up. Once we got the food, the burritos were pretty good. And I chalked up the problem to an anomaly.

Week goes by and we are working in the same area again and wanted to give the Steve burritos another go. Leary of online ordering I called to place the order. Unbelievably, I was told I couldn't order a Steve burrito over the phone cause she didn't know how to ring it up.. wtf?? My little pea brain figured out she could charge me for a super burrito and tell the kitchen to make it like a Steve, duh. She wouldn't have it, absolutely refused and confused. I proceeded to open the Door Dash app and place the order for pick up this time.

1- Steve burrito - carnitas + guac + sour + lettuce + verdi wet
1- Steve burrito - carnitas + guac
1- 2 flauta combo - chicken

I received the message the order was done very quickly, I sent my son to pick it up. He gets there and they hand him the bag, he checks..... Only 1 burrito in the bag. Seriously. He waits while they make the other 2/3rds of our order. They actually missed 2 out of three meals, it's no longer an anomaly it's clearly a systemic absence of quality control.

He returns to the jobsite and hands out our lunches. You're not going to believe this... All three orders were wrong. ALL THREE. Not just a little off, both burritos were carne asada instead of carnitas and the flauta only had one instead of the two described on the menu. The verdi was missing too... To boot, the burritos tasted very different from the week prior, such inconsistencies. These people are completely incompetent.

I have been to this place many many times over the years. Was always a favorite. I have come to learn there is new ownership. A message to the owners: do yourself and this community a favor, just sell it! There's plenty of wrong here, from untrained staff to a kitchen that can't communicate and the lack of quality control makes me very concerned about food safety. If you're not even concerned if you deliver what's ordered I doubt you're concerned about cleanliness and proper food handling. This is after at least a year of new ownership. It isn't working.

Took 15 minutes to make some tacos ( I was the only person in the drive thru and no one was dining in the store I get handed my drink then don't see anyone for 6-7 minutes then just handed the order no "hello, no sorry for the long wait" nothing No customer service to speak of the kid seamed annoyed & angry and I guess he wanted to take it out on me? Don't understand how you can be so upset on Easter!

The food was good, but they didn't do well with my onion allergy.

I know...I know - Mexican is very hard. But still, got sick after.

Still, the service was good and the lady nice. Lot of people there so must be popular. Go there for the tortilla soup for sure.

New owners. Service was poor. Long wait for food. Orders served out of order. Dirty utensils. Watery burrito. Menu not matching what was served. Food was bland. Not coming back ever

I love coming here they have really good Mexican food my favorite is their Chile rellenos chefs kiss hahah ,also very nice employees.

My husband was in the mood for Carnitas. It has been a few year since we dined at Bernardo's, but the weather was suspect and Bernardo's was close by. He absolutely loved the Carnitas! The meat was lean and very flavorable. He drizzled the salsa for the chips on it and was in heaven. The accompanying portions of beans, rice and salad were well portioned. The guacaomole was a heaping serving and very fresh. I had the Fish Tacos. 3 came with the order. they were bigger than the usual fish tacos I get elsewhere. The Chipotle sauce was VERY tasty with a mild bite. I would order them again. My reason for only 4 stars...they don't serve Margaritas...only beer and wine:(. We loved that they played Mexican music instead of hit tunes. It added to the ambiance and reminded us of an eatery in the Old town section of Puerto Vallarta...we will be back.

We went back and the rude gentleman is no longer working here. Still great authentic Mexican food!

As others have reported, my takeout order did not include the sides listed in the menu.

Ordered a chicken dish to go---I received about a cup of pork (I don't eat pork) As least 1/3 of this was pure fat and inedible. As it was to go , I wasn't going back ..it came with lousy rice and canned refried beans..for 16.99 + tax! Also got a "super" tostada with chicken..almost all lettuce..and a soggy tortilla. We also got add on tortilla soup...container half full and on a to go order..why put tortilla chips ..yuck soggy. The chips were stale. Over 30.00 and we could eat almost none of it. Too bad..won't go back

Horrible place to dine in at please don't waste your money and time going into this place!! Tacos were disgusting ground beef was full of oil, shredded beef tastes like redempt in oil Chewy, chicken was dry.. only thing okay was the micheladada!
