Bear Bikes

As usual with everyone, I had an unexpected big bike problem and needed it fixed NOW!
We were starting a tour down Big Sur on our tandem. The Owner fit me in. Plus got me out fast!
Not only did he fix our problem, he helped me with other minor nagging problems that I was going to fix later.
Great JOB! The price was right as well.

Robbie knows his shiet!

Went in a week ago regarding my fixie(single speed bike), it was having a issue where when you pedal the chain will get loose then tight as you keep pedaling. I went to different bike shops and they told me I needed a new crank set. I told people I replaced the chain ring and rear cog already. So I listened to the other shop and bought a whole new crank set, replaced it and guess what... still does the same shiet...

So I looked online and it seemed as if it might be the bottom bracket or chain. Chain is cheaper then a BB so went here to buy a chain and talked to Robbie. He told me a trick to get the chain to the tightest position possible then hold down the chain and loosen the chain ring and tighten it back up. He then told me if that doesn't work bring it in and he will look at it to see if he can fix it before I have to spend more money and a new chain.

Went home and tried the trick and BAM! it's fixed! Thank you Robbie for saving me money and being honest instead of other shops trying to just make me spend money on unnecessary stuff. I've already told people about you guys and how you guys know your stuff, so you know what they say word of mouth is a very dangerous thing.

We brought our bikes to Salinas at the start of our vacation and opened the box to find an unrideable front wheel. We tried another shop and they could not help us, other than recommending we try Bear Bikes or some place in Monterey.

We went to Bear hoping to find a solution to salvage our ride that night and our vacation and Bryan did exactly that. He set aside what he was working on, attended to us and our broken wheel straight away. He crafted a clever solution to get the wheel ridable, safe & true, charged us only $10, and sure enough it held for our entire vacation, through our days in Salinas/Monterey, twilight cycling at Laguna Seca, then 2 days of riding in Yosemite. We'll have to replace the rim now that we're home, but that temporary repair kept us on the road & saved our vacation.

I brought a hydraulic brake in to Bear Bikes to be fixed after leaking it's hydraulic fluid. It couldn't be easily fixed but after they refilled it and spent time trying to determine the problem, I wasn't even charged. When I first got there I was expecting to drop it off but it was attended to immediately. I felt so bad for not being able to pay but I am now a loyal customer.

The owner and staff are great and knowledgeable. These guys do not talk down to you because you are not a racer or serious rider. I will continue to recommend and spend my money here.

Came here to get a new bike tuned (just the brakes and shifting) and for the price, you really can't beat it! $25 dollars for the two (a lot of other bike shops charge double)! The staff was also very friendly and had my bike done and ready for me to take home within the hour!

Bike now shifts nicely with no noise except on the highest gear combos (but that's to be expected and I probably won't use those combos anyway as they stretch out the chain too much)

My only complaint is that the brakes were tightened to the extent that I could not access the quick release for them, which I rely on to detach and reattach my front wheel and brakes quickly so that my bike can fit in the car! This was a little annoying as I had to break out my own tools to fix it (even though I thought I had just paid someone to take care of it for me), but overall a pretty easy fix.

I would still definitely recommend this place to a friend!

I have had my road bike serviced and new tires installed numerous times. The staff has been very nice and extremely knowledgeable about their trade. I live in Mariposa and work in Moss Landing and I will go out of my way to take my bikes there for repairs. Thank you for everything!!

Robbie is an awesome guy! Great service n customer friendly. I brought an older freestyle bike to get brakes serviced, Robbie explained what he was going to do n an estimate of work. When i picked it up next day bike was serviced as promised and within estimate. I'm bringing my mt bike for tune up here!

Excellent bike service, and by far the best in Salinas. Employees are friendly and honest. Parts are fairly priced. This is the only place I go to for anything bike related.
