Does this look like a "typical" Irish Pub, perhaps the type you've seen over and over again elsewhere? Well, yes.
Is it typical? Only to your eyes. Your ears will appreciate the live music. And your smile will appreciate how great the staff is here. I sat at the bar, and the employees that work here were truly friendly, professional, helpful and just great at what they do. Service is fast and accurate.
The food here (the limited items I tried) were really great. The beer selection is very vast, and the bartenders are not thrown by making even the oldest of classics. A great find among the less interesting places on Sixth Street in Downtown Austin, Texas.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thanks so much for stopping in Robert, and taking the time to share your kind and detailed review. As Austin's oldest Irish Pub, we have always tried to be a comfy Irish oasis in the heart of downtown Austin. So glad you enjoyed your time with us and we hope to see you again when travels bring you back to our town.

BD Riley's Irish Pub Downtown is probably the only Irish bar in Austin. Having a hard time finding Irish Pubs here. I don't think there are many employees from Ireland. No matter. I like this place.
BD Riley's Irish Pub Downtown is one of those Sixth Street bars. Not my favorite part of town, but from time to time the area is entertaining.
The bar serves a decent pint of Guinness. Give it a solid B+ for Guinness drinkers. Very consistent in taste and pour. They have three lines. I found depending on the day the taste may vary. I guess I had a few in my day.
The price point is fair. Standard beers and liquor. Pub food is average. Gets busy during the weekends. Has a sports bar following.
What I love about this place is the live music on Saturday night. I wish I remembered the name of the band. They are good. Real good. Lots of fun when there. The live music is good any night, but awesome on weekends. Especially, with no cover. JUST TIP THE BAND.
BD Riley's Irish Pub Downtown is located right off S. Congress, so you don't have to deal with the crowds of Sixth Street. The crowd is older and touristy when you compare to the other bars down the street.
Boston sports bar crowd. Boohoo...
If you are looking for a fun night of Guinness, live music and some banter; BD Riley's Irish Pub Downtown does a good job.
CC friendly. Street parking if you can find any. Solid service. Hate that you pay first, then you get your drink. Not the end of the world procedure.
Overall, a solid place...Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information

Thanks for your visit and kind and detailed review! For the record we served more than 27,000 Perfect Pintsâ„¢ of Guinness last year alone, so a keg rarely lasts more than a few days, from tapped to empty. Fresh beer served properly is our mantra. As for payment, we do swipe and return your card when we open your tab, but payment after service is our standard. Stop in again soon. Based on your Pats clock photo (nice caption!), you were in on the 19th of October, and the band was Texiana Bluez featuring Michael Milligan. You can find our current live music calendar here: https://bdrileys.com/wp-content/uploads/11x7NOV2019.pdf

The French dip was fantastic here. I wasn't sure what to expect ordering it in a pub but it really exceeded my expectations. My friend had the burger and he also said that it was great.
They pour a great Guinness here as well, not the easiest thing to do.
Will be back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thanks Ian, we appreciate your visit and your feedback. We are very particular about our Guinness and the proper pour for a Perfect Pintâ„¢. We served more than 26,000 pints at this location last year alone (265 kegs) so we get a lot off practice!

This is an updated review that includes most of 2016 and the beginning of 2017.
This is my go to place to be relaxing by myself or with close friends. I don't even think I have done a check in more than once as I am swept up into the friendly atmosphere immediately and forget. I can't put a figure on the number of times I have visited this establishment, but it is quite a few.
The location is perfect. It is up the street from the chaos and wildness of 6th street, is calmer, much more laid back and quite safe. People from all walks of life come into here and are treated like family. It is also the only place where I have seen a Guinness Stout properly prepared. You do not want to be in a rush here. This is definitely not a place to see how drunk you can get for the least amount of money on low quality. This is a people watching, making new friends, watching games side-by-side with rivals and having some really outstanding food. It may sound cliché', but in my humble opinion they have the best fish and chips in town. The fish is dipped there, the oils are not old and rancid like some other places, and the people who work there do work their hearts out for you. Never a cover, open mike, and I really enjoy chilling out during the day.
I always recommend this location to visitors from out of town, state or even country. There are quality hotels close by in addition to many attractions.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 12Oh no 0Business owner information

We are honored by your repeat business and humbled by your praise. Thanks so much for being a loyal customer, and for describing so well just what makes the pub a true pub: tasty food, perfect pints, live music, great conversation and friendly service. It's what we strive for every day.
Mar 27, 2016Previous reviewI attended an event here and it was really good! The quality of the fish and chips were quite good and nice and came apart easily. Well drink was also good. I have been here many times in the past, and this was by far the best tasting I have had of their fish and chips, which I always order. Two snaps up for an outstanding young lady and gentleman who were functioning as part of the wait staff. This is a tough job, it was done well, and I tipped very well in appreciation. Well done people, well done!

After walking the Austin area this placed called me, I'm always game for an Irish pub. The ambiance is eclectic with all sorts of stuff on the walls and plenty of things to look at.
The staff was friendly and they have an accomplished beer selection. I enjoyed a pecan porter, which was refreshing. I tried the Reuben sandwich which was plenty filling, a solid choice.
For sports fans, they have plenty of televisions and great air-conditioning! This bar is a Notre Dame, UT Texas, and NFL Patriots watering hole. Cheers to another fun Irish pub.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - Apr 11, 2016
Came here as part of the Alcohol Aficionados Yelp Club and I was not disappointed!
They do a classic "Black n Tan" and their reuben is a hot mess of deliciousness!
For the price, this is probably one of the better reubens in town, though it is not a "classic" as they use slaw instead of kraut. I am willing to overlook such a transgression because the meat on this sandwich is so damn good! I didn't even care that it kept falling off the 'wich because it was so tasty and plentiful!
We came in on a late Saturday afternoon and had quick, friendly service amongst continually flowing drinks and nom-tastic food.
I usually avoid Dirty like the plague it is, but I might break my own rule to enjoy a second-helping of that reuben action!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Mar 28, 2016
Many years and years ago I had stumbled upon this bar while more than likely drunk. I didn't remember it so It was a surprise to me that UYE was held here and upon entering I did recognize it.
The bar was quite back on Saturday afternoon during the 2 hours I was there. I wasn't quite hunger so split an appetizer of Irish style "nachos". It is described as: Thick-cut Irish chips (fries) instead of tortilla chips form the hearty base of this Emerald Isle variation on a Mexican theme. We added corn beef for good measure. The "nachos" were honestly a little crazy with the amount of cheese on it. I already have dairy issues so didn't help that at all. I loved the corn beef on it and it made me miss my travels to Ireland back in 2011.
I like the atmosphere of the bar and could see myself hanging out again the future.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Apr 30, 2018
Stopped by during a Saturday night. Got a seat at a table pretty easy but it was around 10:30pm. It got a bit more crowded as the night came. Ordered food as this was my husband and mine late dinner. Got some corned beef, their black bean queso, and their fried pickles.
I thought the corned beef was tasty enough. The best thing was actually the cabbage. Very flavorful. But my husband felt the beef was very dry. The potato was also pretty bland.
The fried pickles did nothing for me. First time I left more than half an order uneaten.
The black bean queso was pretty bomb though. That was very tasty.
Live music was on point so we stayed most night listening to the band. It's an order, more subdue group here than other 6th Street venues. Prices were ok. All around, a decent Saturday night visit at 6th Street.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 49166524300Sep 16, 2018
Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. She drove cross country...okay, those aren't the lyrics, but you get the picture. I'm just a girl from Maine, living in Texas. I love coming down here to watch a game, have a few drinks, and meet some chill displaced New Englanders. Live bands are always great. I love the feel of this Irish bar. After a couple drinks here, everyone becomes family. And I love that. Food is good. Drinks are good. I always have a good time. Staff is friendly and the owner is hands on!

Decent place for downtown lunch and useful if you're looking for a place to watch the World Cup. Pretty simple lunch menu with Irish food that would make you proud.
I got fish and chips and thought it was good. Maybe closer to 3.5 stars, but the chips are really good, so I'll bump it to a 4. They're thick wedges, well seasoned and fried expertly. The fish is light and a big chunk and goes great with the tartar sauce. Coleslaw is another cool, crisp, refreshing element to round out your lunch.
They got other things like corned beef and bangers and mash I wouldn't mind trying some day again if I'm looking in the area for affordable lunch.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
