The beer is cold.
That's all I can say.
It tasted a little funky, not the cool yeasty banana tasting hefeviezen like in Stuttgart or Munchen.
But cold.
The food is meh, But then again i am pretty biased... I lived in Duetschland for 11 yrs as an Army Veteran, married a native.
So I'm not gonna judge against real German grub. Not even close.
But being the only German place for 20 miles, this gets stars.
I've been going here since it was the Hofbrauhaus... The meals have gotten WAY smaller, and the quality is down.
The kartoffel salat tasted like a dill pickle, because it had dill pickle in it. And was very mushy.
No red cabbage??? I don't even see it on the menu!!! Schnitzel the size of an egg..... Not the hanging of the plate like before
Not a welcoming staff, kinda preoccupied with there own social networking.
But hey, it's the only schnitzel joint in town, so... Oh yeah, there is one in the Gables, I forgot.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 25, 2021
My wife & I were walking around downtown yesterday, including Bayfront Park and Bayside, when we decided to take a break and get something to eat and drink. We decided on Bavaria Haus because we noticed that they had a nice outdoor seating area. We ordered drinks initially and while my wife just ordered a soft drink (lemonade - $4), I went for a full liter mug of the HB Dunkel ($15), which absolutely hit the spot.
After receiving our beverages,we ordered food. My wife settled on the gulasch ($10), and I decid²ed on the vegetarian burger with fries. This is where things went downhill. My vegetarian burger was a commercial frozen hockey puck made I am quite sure by Gardenburger. That in and of itself would be disappointing considering the $14 price tag, but it was overcooked as served (see photo). The fries were fine and were the best part of the meal. My wife said that the "gulasch" tasted fine, but it was not what she expected and not like any gulasch she's ever eaten. It was a thin soup rather than stew-like.
The service was adequate, although we did need to request our set-ups after we received our food because none had been on the table when we sat down and none were brought to us when we initially ordered.
All in all this is an average establishment in an overly touristy area. The prices are commensurate with its location. Would we return? Definitely for the beer; not so much for the food. And only if we hapoened to be in the area anyway.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 17, 2021
This place was chosen as apart of a tour - we were told to be at the dock by 12:20 our food arrived @ 12:25 - and people were also waiting for their food after us just got it to go. When the food arrived the manager said we have time to eat it - so we asked for it to go. Portions are small AF - why pay $15 for 5 shrimp? Why pay $15 for literally 3 bites of ceviche? And then you have the audacity to charge me 15% tax?! And I had to listen to the bar tender talk and complain about the people and doing HER job? Yeah no thanks! DO NOT BOTHER WITH THIS PLACE ANS WILL DEFINITELY INFORM THE PLACE THAT THEY ARE CONTRACTED WITH.

The tour guide led us to this little spot before heading on our boat tour. They were quick, it was tasty and the view was nice. I'd return and I enjoyed my lunch overall.

Go to Bayside and be transported to Germany (kind of). You can sit indoors or out. Service was excellent. Our server was so friendly and accommodating moving our table when it started to rain. We ordered some beers (obviously) and the giant pretzel with cheese as well as some wings. The food came out fast. The beers were good. All in all a lovely experience despite the sideways rain that caught us all off guard.

Going downhill. The place used to be amazing, with a bartender that was from Germany and food that was warm and yummy. Last time we stopped in the service took forever, and the staff wasn't very friendly. We had the charcuterie board and some of the meat we previously loved seemed stiff and yucky.
I hope it's just COVID and they'll go back to being the killer bar they were before!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 28, 2019
We were here on new years eve. It was surprisingly not packed. Without reservation we only got the table for less than 2 hours but the view was nice.
We four shared some beer and platters. Even though we were not supposed to share the beer, the portion was just too big. The food was genuinely good. Since we shared all the food, it wasn't so costy for us. The meat platter was a fun with so many to taste. The pork shank was mild inside but the skin was so crispy. I had extra pickled cabbage which was refreshing.
A restaurant worth trying.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 105210403Sep 16, 2018
I sooooo wanted to give this a better rating but the cons outweigh the pros. It is hot outside... I mean hot!!!! And we walk in and it is hot inside. I have been dying to come here. We stayed. So con #1 hot... con #2 - I am 5'8 and I'm sitting g at a high top and can not touch the step to rest my feet on. My feet are now tucked under me. 3rd con - staff is less than attentive. Place is dead on a Sunday. 4th con, a medium pretzel comes with a squeeze bottle mustard-- want the cheese and stuff?... upgrade to the large.
Pros, beer selection is pretty ok for drafts. Monday is $4 brats-- would love to try this! Menu is pretty descent.
I just can't get over how hot it is in here. We had to leave. I just couldn't sit here with my feet dangling and swearing any longer. Maybe next time will be a better experience.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Johnna G.Huntersville, NC393131113Mar 31, 2021
I ordered 20$ the chef salad because I needed the lean protein, it comes with hard boiled eggs , cheese , and meat. When it arrived without the egg I asked for the eggs. The chef would not give it to me.
Also the mojitos come with lime concentrate juice , not fresh squeezed lime.
To top it off they added 15% gratuity for a two top table . Tourist be aware , they are not giving you their best. We weren't even served on glass. These folks are after tourist dollars , not giving them the best they got .Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 351779611Feb 1, 2018
I pretty much avoid Bayside. I seriously hate that place. We were at Frost and we were really hungry. We saw this place on Yelp, the reviews weren't horrible and my husband wanted German Beer. Soooooo, we settled.
Bayside was crazy packed. We went upstairs and there appeared to be a giant line of people waiting to get in. Lucky for us, the lines and crowds were for Chili's and Hooters! Seriously? Bavaria Haus was dead empty inside and pretty empty outside. That should've been a sign.
We were seated immediately, of course. Then we proceeded to wait. We must've read the menu 50 times before a server came to take drink orders. We placed our drink and appetizer order first. In hindsight, we should've ordered our entrees at that time as well.
The beer arrived with zero foam. Zero. We ordered the Obazter Combo, cheese spread and giant pretzel, $11. The cheese was good but the pretzel tasted stale. Unfortunately for us, we ordered our entrees when the appetizer arrived. Because quite frankly, that was the only time that we saw our server.
Forty-five minutes later, our entrees arrived. Did I mention that the restaurant was empty? I ordered the Jägerschnitzel, $20. The pork cutlet was really good and it was served hot and crisp. It was served with spatzle. That spatzle needed way more gravy than what they put on it. Fortunately, my schnitzel had quite a bit. Wish I had subbed with fries.
My husband ordered the Schweibraten, pork roast, $20. He said that it was just ok. However, it was served cold. Our server was nice enough, just not around much. Our glasses weren't refilled until we asked and getting the check was a mission.
I gave them an additional * because the schnitzel was really good. But other than that, this visit was a bust.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
