TLDR: Basecamp is a solid workout studio offering engaging cardio/weight circuits, stellar customer service, and a welcoming community.

      -- The Workout --
Basecamp classes consist of minute rounds switching back and forth between riding a stationary bike and completing strength exercises. The strength exercises are primarily composed of weight lifting (barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells) incorporated with cardio moves (push ups, squats, lunges). The class is very similar to F45, where you are assigned a starting point and follow screens to complete exercises in a small group.

The studio is also divided into two main sections, a higher and lower workout area. The main level is where the instructor spends the majority of their time and gives more focus to helping participants. The lower section is only utilized when there is a large class (15+ people) and is usually assigned to more veteran Basecamp goers. The studio also offers headphones that amplify the music and the instructor's voice, so you can hear them no matter where you are.

      -- My Review --
The workout is fast paced, fun, and not too difficult. I enjoy how quickly the class moves, with each exercise only lasting one minute so you can never truly get bored. It's not as unique as other speciality workout classes, but it's a solid base workout that is highly customizable and covers a wide array of full body exercises.

      -- Community --
Basecamp's customer service is excellent. The first time you attend a class you will be walked to your starting point, introduced to the tech and circuits, and receive help adjusting your stationary bike. The team has also reached out to me to inform me that some classes I've signed up for have had limited participants and asked if I was interested in rescheduling. They are attentive, fast to reply, and friendly people. If it is your first time at the studio or just working out in general, don't worry you're in good hands.

Lastly, Basecamp also places a strong emphasis on community. This is the first workout studio I've attended that advertises large social events open to everyone, like attending the Giants game together. They also have individual class incentives like the 6 Mile Club that celebrates regulars and their achievements. It's a great community to be a part of if you're new to the city and looking to meet more people.

Basecamp Fitness is an interval training gym that gives you an intense workout in about 45 minutes. Parking is a bit inconvenient, it is street parking (metered parking).

The workout is you do 60 seconds of cardio on the stationary bikes, then switch to 60 seconds of strength training to back to cardio, then strength training again - over and over again. You are guided by an instructor/trainer through headphones (provided in the beginning of class).

Finally found a gym that I've been looking for! Conveniently located to home, kicked my butt, and super welcoming staff.

I booked a free trial class today, a cardio/core class led by Ashley. The first ten minutes I was already thinking about giving up and trying to think of how I can discreetly sneak out of the class. But between Ashley's coaching and the group vibe, I was motivated to not quit. I'm so glad I didn't because after the first ten minutes, the class seemed to go by so quickly! I was super beat after the class but felt euphoric at the same time. So happy that I completed the class and thoroughly enjoyed it that I signed up for a membership before leaving. Looking forward to trying other classes soon!

I felt a little shy when I arrived, like the new kid at school. Shout out to Ashley and Thomas for making me feel so welcome and at ease. And thank you to Bassel for coordinating my first class for me. :)

Staff is super friendly and welcoming. The setup needs an upgrade. Coming from the new Burlingame setup made the SF location look dull. Also thought the headphone situation was kind of strange. If I wanted to try basecamp again, I'd probably just stick with the Burlingame location.

This review will be similar to the Burlingame facility's review

I am a member at Basecamp - Burlingame facility and visited the SF facility the other day. The exercise routine is basically the same as the Burlingame facility but some are altered due to the facility is located in a residential area.

Few things I like about the facility
      1. The exercise is similar to HIIT. You rotate with different exercises with 10-second interval break to transit into another exercise. (assault air bike & floor exercise)
      2. Staff members are approachable and friendly.
      3. You do not need to think and/or design a workout routine since Basecamp developed the workout for you.
      4. This place also has more shower room when compared to the Burlingame facility!
      5. Dog-friendly

Something I do not like about the facility
      1. As mention above, this is a fast paced environment, so you either need to have basic knowledge or come before and/or stay after the class to learn about the proper form. To save yourself from injuries and blocking people who actually need and know how to workout
      2. There is only 1 instructor teaching the class and it's hard for the instructor to monitor all members. Also, some instructors just walk around the facility and stating what is the next exercise without stating what to look out for or an alternative form. This also applied to #1 as well, fast-paced. (But there are also instructors that pay close attention and try to help out as much as possible. So it depends on which instructor you have for the day)
      3. Space is in a rectangular shape so you have a limited area or easily clash into other people if you are not careful enough

The cancellation policy is the same throughout basecamp. so just watch out for that. 12 hours ahead or you lose the class, if you are unlimited classes then that's $10 bucks.

Overall, if you have a decent knowledge about lifting weight and don't want to spend the time to design your own routine. This will be a good place for you. Since everything is pre-designed so you just need to show up and workout. If you are not too knowledgeable, it may still be a good place for you to workout. You just need to spend more time to talk to the instructors before and/or after the classes to get your technique down.

The above is my personal opinion and I don't speak for anyone else. But you should be the judge for this place.

I was a member here for a couple of years. Then COVID hit. My membership was frozen, and then reactivated without authorization. I was charged for months of fee, and when I tried to get a hold of Basecamp to cancel the membership and ask for a refund they never returned my calls or emails. Not a nice business practice if you ask me.

First off, I know what your thinking...its just another typical pretentious gym in the Marina...right...NO!

After 2 years at another boot camp, it was time to search for the next set up challenges and so far I have found it at Basecamp Fitness SF. Once you buy in on the format, you will notice that you feel great and start seeing a difference almost immediately. I received a free 3 day pass and went all 3 days...booked unlimited membership on the 4th day and have done 4 more classes since and loving it. The instructors are all great...same energy...same positive message...and it works!

I can't say enough about this gym and its customer service. Mercedes was great and was available for me by email and text during all parts of my trial and decision making.

Just joined the 6 miles club this morning and can't wait to wear my shirt at tomorrow's class!!

--LOCATION-- shares the building with apartment buildings. Located on the corner of the building/street.

      --PARKING-- meter

--WORKOUT-- I attended their knockout boxing class. Same format as any other Basecamp workout (rotating 1 min on bike, 1 min exercise). Different punching routines every cycle! The instructor comes around and gives individual attention each round so you'll get at least one chance at sparring with him. Such a good workout!

--AMENITIES-- Showers upstairs. One shower/bathroom on main floor next to front desk.
      +blue, soft towels
      +antiperspirant spray
      +mouthwash
      +gum
      +lotion
      +body wash, conditioner, shampoo

The sound system is lighter than other studios because of the shared space with apartments. So don't expect it to be ear-blasting haha It is honestly fine the way it is, especially with what they can manage.

--TRAINERS-- Great, bubbly group of people! I thought my trainer was great (sorry I forgot your name!) and I am so appreciative of Otto who helped wrap my hands and got me going.

--OVERALL-- Basecamp does a fantastic job creating a community that feels welcoming at whichever location you visit.

I've been going to basecamp for a few years and I can't say enough good things about the workouts and the staff here. All the trainers are great, the classes are challenging and have helped me get back into shape. And BIG props to Thomas, the manager at the SF location. He's super nice and has always helped me with upgrading my plans and getting my referrals booked.

Hey Basecamp!! This is a better workout for me offered through ClassPass. Edwin the trainer was helpful and definitely a professional. When I got in early before 5:30, Michelle the attendant helped me get introduced to this workout. So if you haven't done this workout before, get there early, and you can get some pointers and tips, or you really may get lost. They have a screen with different workout signals. I had "A" and had to watch for the "A" workout. It's biking and then some other light weight training. We used barbells, dumbbells, strappy stretchy cords, and more biking! A minute on and a minute off for 35 minutes and then we do abs for 10 minutes. The ab exercises are different and you wouldn't have done this ab sequence without Basecamp's innovative approach. There's quite a bit of cardio movement, but it's not too fast. I would do this exercise again. It's a better one for me, but it's far away on Filbert and Van Ness. It's more friendly. The interior is modern. They have this exercise center in Burlingame and 3 locations in LA like Pasadena and Santa Monica. Better for me in SF.
