My S.O. and I have been the proud doggie parents of Simon, our 3-year-old Silky Terrier (with possibly a little Yorkie in the mix) for a little over 3 weeks. I wanted to wait a little on writing a review until we used all of Barkley Square's services that we planned to use.

So, in three weeks' time, we've done the following:

      - Evaluation and 1/2 day daycare to be sure that Simon would be able to stay the night in a couple weeks

      - Maybe 6 or 7 full days of daycare? (Lost count....)

      - 1 overnight stay

      - 1 grooming session with Shannon

Overall, I'm impressed with Barkley Square because I can tell that the staff truly cares about the dogs. They remember Simon by name every time he bursts through the door, and they never hesitate to voice their concerns about his potentially mischievous (a euphemism to protect the innocent) behavior. (We learned that he enjoys picking on the big dogs and that he can jump over the tall fence surrounding the small dog area.)

My S.O. and I are confident that he gets good care whenever he's there because when we get out of the car, he runs to the door because he's so excited to be there.

I think of it as a doggie frat house, and I'm a little surprised that he doesn't come home smelling as if he went swimming in a keg.

Anyway, I know that they divide the day into play time both inside and outside, and he'll be separated into a small dog group if there are enough small ones and grouped with the big dogs if not. When my S.O. picked him up the other day, he saw Simon in a red sweater.....they play dress-up with the dogs as a way to get them used to people and things touching their skin. At least he wasn't in a tutu.

After his grooming a couple weeks ago, he looked fantastic as he strutted out to see us. Shannon took him on time and groomed him exactly the way we asked. He looked so handsome that the only things missing were a top hat and bow tie.

We take the owner's advice seriously and are working to make Simon into a better doggie citizen.

We'll definitely make use of Barkley Square's services as long as Simon continues to enjoy being there and as long as they think it's ok for him to keep visiting.

Note: Minus one star because I wish they had a prorated fee if the half-day session of 5 hours only goes over for 1 hour. Now, staying for 6 hours is considered a whole day, even though a whole day goes up to 10 hours.

      Updated review

I came back in early November 2012 to drop off my 3 Olde English Bulldog.
Left them there for 4days on my business trip. Worry so much about them everyday, but when I look at Barkley Square CAM ; my worry gone.

Barkley Square got the CAM working so I was able to see my kids playing.
When i pick them up it was really late because my flight got delay.

The owner there was very nice; he told his employee to open the door and wait for me to pick up all my three dogs.

      Much appreciate...

I was not able to fit all 3 in my car so I have to take 3 trip and they open their door to wait for me ....

That was very nice of these people to go out of there way for their customer...

I will bring back my kids to this place because I feel safe and knowing that they can work with my crazy schedual ...

The owner offer me a pick up and drop off next time if I do leave for work again.
Barkley Square Service will send a driver out to pick up your Pet and drop them off.

Great idea...next time I will have them do that because less stress for me...

DO NOT GO TO BARKLEY SQUARE!!!!!!!! UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS.

ADAM HAS THE WORST ATTITUDE EVER. We made reservations for 2 dogs to board together. Marissa, the owner (and Adam's wife) told us that we qualify for the "same household" discount. After boarding the dogs for three days, I picked up the dogs and paid the fees. Marissa was aware of the fact that the dogs were owned by 2 separate owners.

Over the course of the month before actually boarding the dog, we confirmed the reservation two more times. I thought everything was fine and was happy with their services.

Adam then calls me and tells me that I did not qualify for the discount becauseI didn't own both dogs. He accused me of doing the "wrong thing" and "stealing money from the business." When I told him I did not like his accusatory language, he yelled back "DON'T EVER BRING YOUR DOGS BACK HERE EVER AGAIN!!" and hung up on me.

What kind of business would treat their customers like this? Instead of solving the problem and working it out Adam chose to be unprofessional and rude.

I told him that his wife confirmed the reservation and he said he didn't care. He refused to honor what his own wife said to the customers. He should have been professional and explained that there was a misunderstanding and admit that his own wife and him have different understandings of the policy. If he had a different attitude I would have been more than happy to work out the difference and continue to be loyal customers. Instead, I will take my money and dogs elsewhere, regardless of how happy they may have been at Barkley Square.

This kind of business should be reported to the better business bureau.

Btw, my dog came home smelling like PEE all over his back. I don't care if another dog pee'd on him beacuse that sometimes happens when dogs are playing with each other. BUT if it happens shouldn't the staff at least rinse him off???

THEY SAY THEY ARE ANIMAL LOVERES BUT REALLY THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. DO NOT GO TO THIS PENNY-PINCHING PLACE.

It is so difficult to find time in my Gordo's schedule to get in a good grooming that no lady (or boy) would want my tramp looking boy. Not that he's a slut or anything. (Though I have seen him wrestle with more than one skunk toy at a time. Shhh. Yoda doesn't have to know.)

Anyways, when my black and white Shih Tzu, Gordo, is not busy investigating his junk for hours on end or valiantly defending me from that ferocious empty Coke bottle, I bring him here to get him lookin' all kindsa fancy.

Gordo is like that one character in the movie UP. No, not the cute talking dog. He's like the old man: grumpy, old, and unfriendly. That being said, I've been asked to pick him up from countless unfinished grooming appointments due to his aggression and grumpy behavior.
Not anymoarrrr! Shannon at Barkley Square has changed our lives! Gordo adores her and actually lets her get him nice and clean cut without scratching her eyes out and incurring a law suit against me.
Grooming is typically 55-65$, depending on how long his hair has gotten & it's well worth the money! His ears are always clean, the cut is even, and his white fur is so white looking, even the white elitist dog gang would let him join.

I've never had an issue with him being injured (or the groomers), and I am very satisfied with the service. Gordi loves this place, and I will continue bringing him here to get him looking like the fresh boy mama is proud of!

This is a review for the grooming services only. I've taken my dog here for about two years and have only gone to Shannon. Since my last visit a few weeks ago, I am no longer taking my dog to Barkley Square.

My dog is a shih tzu which is typically a high maintenance breed for cuts. However, I always ask Shannon to keep Penny's hair super short because I want her to be comfortable. Shannon does some shaping/contouring for the tail and face area but overall, I think it's a fairly straight forward look. For the majority of my visits, I'd give her a 6/7 out of 10 (for uneveness, one ear being shorter than the other, coming back not smelling "clean"). All no biggies for me, until...

I had an incident a few appointments ago where I noticed Penny's nail was bleeding. I understand that it's not uncommon to cut too closely, but I don't appreciate Shannon not telling me about it all. The nail wasn't bleeding when I picked her up and that's probably why she didn't mention it. I decided to give them another shot since Barkley Square is close to where I live and scheduled an appointment for last week. This time when I got my dog home, I noticed a 1-2 inch cut on my dog's belly. That to me is the final straw and I will not be coming back. I called and complained about the nail bleeding, this time, I've decided to stop coming. To be fair, the place is clean from what I can see in the front receptionist area and the prices are reasonable.

I don't expect my dog to come out looking like a show dog. I don't expect every strand of fur to be the exact same length. And I do understand that not all dogs are perfectly well behaved for grooming, Penny certainly is not. But I don't think it's right to not be upfront about these accidents. Go at your own risk.

Barkley Square has basically prevented me from suffering from a mental breakdown. I was having an extremely hard time balancing a busy work schedule and raising a beagle puppy. My beagle definitely needed much more attention and socialization than I was able to provide her at the time. She was always jumping on the couch, attention barking, and chewing on everything except her toys. After the very first day of doggie day care, I noticed a HUGE improvement in her behavior. I've been taking her for a few weeks now (1 - 2 times a week) and even had her there for the weekend while I was traveling. She loves the staff, the environment, and the dogs. She comes home a very happy puppy. :)

The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the doggie cams are awesome! I can always check in on her whenever I want and even send the link to my friends to watch as well. We all get a kick out of it! They even offer obedience training and grooming services.

I would highly recommend Barkley Square to anyone.

Absolutely the best doggie care facility I've even been to. The staff all truly seem to love dogs, the facility is fun and active, the grooming service is convenient and they have web cams to check out the fun anytime.

My dog loved Barkley Square but he was a Golden so he probably loved everything. I on the other hand loved:

      1. they have large play areas for the dogs (both indoor and outdoor)
      2. gave us access to video cams
      3. Adam and the rest of the staff was always accommodating and friendly

I heard about this place from Shannon the groomer herself because she's my neighbor. My dog's first time going there was last week.

His first day was a little slow. He played a little bit then just stayed in his own corner the rest of the day, with a few sniffs here & there to see what's going on.

His second day was another story. He was running all around and playing with whoever could put up with his puppy-ness (1 yr old). He barely took a break!

I know all this because I was watching the webcams they've set up. Just as I'm watching now! :)

All the dogs seem very happy and comfortable. There is a lot of shade outside for when they want to get out of the sun. It looks like they water down the turf for when it gets really hot. The rooms inside are clean and roomy.

All the employees are very friendly and accommodating.

My pup already knows where we're going when I'm only on Calaveras Blvd.! I love this place and the people and I think I can safely say that I speak for Mr. Gimli also. :)

Is there a season pass for this place?? Well in the mean time I'll get a package deal to save a little $$.

      Updated review

OK. So here's an update. For starters, last time I wrote about the fact that one of our dogs had pee on his back after the bath. We've since found out that it was our other dog that was peeing on the other. It wasn't Red Rover's fault.

After I posted my last review, the owner messaged me and invited us back to stay a few nights for free. I really appreciated that. That says a lot about the owner. This business is bound for growth and success with that kind of attention to detail.

So we took up the owner's offer to come back. Coincidentally, we had a trip to Hawaii planned and had to leave our dogs for a few days so that was our opportunity to go back to Red Rover. This time, from start to finish, we were very pleased. At every corner, the staff went out of their way to accomodate us. They bathed them at the end of their stay, as we requested, but then our plane was delayed coming in, so we weren't able to pick up the dogs on the night we planned. So the bath was wasted, or so we thought. The next day, I came in, and to my surprise they had bathed them a second time so they would be fresh and clean for us! What a nice surprise.

Lisa, the manager, is really a sweet person and will do everything she can to make your pet's stay enjoyable.

I love this place and my dogs seem to love it here too.
It's right down the street from our house, so very happy to have them so close by!

Try this place. Two thumbs up from me!
