This place saved us from hunger pains. We flew from New York to Florida and landed at about 8ish on a Wednesday. Unlike New York, most places by 10 are closed even bars. We yelped and found 2 places that were enough for us to grab a bite. When we arrived at our first pick (sorry) the kitchen was closed. So we ended up coming here after calling and verifying that the kitchen was opened. Honestly, it was fate lol.
Our waitress was super cool and friendly, a real people person naturally. We ordered wings for apps and OMG why were they soooo good? As entrees we ordered some burgers and fries and again we were not disappointed- the fries were probably the best fries I've had anywhere. The rest if our family met up with us and were also so amazed at our good the food was.
While we were there, some of the other customers were so drunk that our waitress had to call thee cops but she was professional and handled the chaos very well.
Each day, they have different specials do for example Wednesday's were half off Jameson's . Honestly, this is a great place to eat and chill at any time with a great staff.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 12, 2019
This is definitely more bar than restaurant, but you wouldn't know it midday when it had a number of patrons happily lunching.
The place is located on the corner. There is metered street parking nearby. From the outside it looked abandoned. We couldn't tell what we would find inside. We weren't even sure It was open until we saw two people entering.
Inside the large long bar dominates as it takes up one long wall. On the short wall are a lot of beer taps. Projected on the opposite wall are a list of all the beers they carry. The first column were those on tap. The others (it's a long list) are those they have in bottles and cans. In case you're more of a wine drinker, the wines are listed on the back of the menu.
In addition to seating at the bar, where we sat, there are some low and high top tables. The crowd mid day was a mix -- two gals with a baby carriage in tow; an older couple; a business man with his computer; a nearby worker who took her lunch and ate outside; and two guys enjoying a few beers plus at the end of the bar.
They have a number of daily specials and event nights with featured drinks and special prices advertised on a chalk board. They offer $2 off all food during lunch hours.
I ordered their three meatball appetizer. It was a combo of pork and beef in a rich thick tomato sauce with a dollop of creamy ricotta cheese. The meatballs were good. I'd probably have liked them a bit hotter in temperature. I actually took half my dish home.
The star was my husband's smoked beer bratwurst sandwich. It was cooked so the outer casing was crispy then topped with caramelized onions and peppers with kraut and mustard. All served on a roll. It came with well done sidewinder fries which are shaped like twists and taste home made.
The menu is diverse. All kinds of sandwiches "between the buns"; bar food like tots, cheese fries, pretzels, nachos, wings, plus some salads, dips, vegetable dishes and even poutine. Headings are "smaller bites" and "more than a mouthful" so depending on how hungry you are, you can size your choices. This is "bar" food from a talented kitchen, though.
I imagine the nighttime is an entirely different scene. They warn on the menu that large parties may get their food at different times. If you're in the neighborhood and craving a beer and some food a cut above, this may be your new favorite bar.Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - Dec 8, 2019
I give it 4 stars because it is a laid back place to just sit and enjoy. There is absolutely no rush to get up and leave. The staff is friendly, pleasant and welcoming.
I just did not enjoy the smoked fish dip that our server suggested. The bread was the best thing about the fish. My friend enjoyed the BLT until it did not agree with her later that night.
I do wish that there was something on the menu that would bring me back but that is not the case.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 9496247968May 1, 2018
Craft beer and wine bar with some tasty menu choices, located off Oakland and A1A, this small and casual eatery is a must stop. We stopped for drinks so we didn't order much, but I loved the Red Beard Tots, they are deliciously crispy on the outside and soft in the inside, served with a delicious cheese sauce, what is not to like!
Service was efficient and friendly, there are tables and high tops, the bar is casual. There is a nice selection of craft beers, ciders, and wines, and the draft beers rotate every few weeks. Definitely looking forward to going back and trying more food.Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Mar 6, 2018
3/3/2018 - Loved this place since it first opened. I'm glad that it is doing so well. Craving their famous cheesy tator tots, we headed here after a few drinks at an earlier happy hour. Grabbed a table and we were greeted right away. We did not order anything to drink but did order their large Red Beard Tots and The Pretzel. That's the thing with Bar Red Beard, they have great beers, wines and liquor BUT, they also offer great FOOD!. And that's what we came for this time.
These perfectly round cheesy balls of goodness are a must!!!! You won't find a tot like this anywhere! They come with a sauce but to be honest, they do not need it. They are flavorful and always come our fresh. The breading is light and you can taste the cheesy potato. The large size is plenty for two people, you can definitely share with 4 people but....do you really want to?
The pretzel was super hot and HUGE! 10 oz. salt twist served with the most delicious side of beer cheese and beer mustard. Another must!!! For two people these two items were plenty, we ended up taking some with us.
The girls at the bar came by to ask how we were doing, if we needed anything and to clear the table. Great customer service! We also saw the RED BEARD, Mike, clearing tables as well. He also greeted us. Definitely the place you want to come and hang out a while even if you are not from the neighborhood, make the drive. It is worth it!Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Robert M.Corona Del Mar, CA24071671336Jan 6, 2020
This is a great place to try craft beers of all types.
The location is easy to find - it's on a corner in an open plan shopping area. The decor is simple and utilitarian. You'll find a large bar and tables with bar stools spaced throughout the interior.
There are weekly specials (see photo) that change regularly. And of course, the beers available change regularly. It was a little strange that the beers weren't listed at the bar. Instead, you had to turn 180 degrees to read tiny print on a television monitor across the room. There is a QR code to see what they have in stock, but that wasn't working when I used a QR reader (the bartender informed me that I need a special beer app to be able to read that).
I had the tots, per Yelp reviews, and it was okay. The beer I tried was fantastic. If you like beer and are looking for a casual atmosphere, this is your place.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - 9933141233Nov 13, 2017
Bar Red Beard is another gem I discovered thanks to Yelp that is everything I love in a bar. It's on the very corner of the street that is also shared with Blue Jean Blues. All the accordion doors were open to do some people watching. The place was super clean, had a New England aesthetic to it with the dark earth tones and simple wooden tables and bar.
There were only about 3 seats left at the bar and they were scattered between groups so only one available as I came in with my friend. The 2 bartenders that helped us were so nice and attentive. My friend didn't mind standing for the time being while I sat and waited for other 2 friends to come and the group of people next to us offered to move over and even brought out another high chair for my friend. That was so heart warming, so rare to find this kindness from strangers!
After my other friend met up with us we migrated to a table. Once we sat it got busy (it was about 10pm). I had 2 glasses of Merlot and a Chardonnay. All 3 very heavy pours and for $18. They did have a deal on their red house wine for $4 that I saw later. One friend ordered a meatball appetizer and my other friend ordered fries that came with a savory chipotle sauce for dipping. They both loved what they ordered! The low key vibe here is a winner and I can't wait to go back!Helpful 24Thanks 0Love this 18Oh no 0 - Nov 1, 2017
I wanted to like Bar Red Beard so with that said I rounded up to 4 stars.
The bar was a lot smaller than I thought it would be. You're classic sports bar; my coworker swears it's a Gator bar. Happy hour $2 off all food and $1 off all drinks before 7PM everyday, but on Wednesdays AFTER 7PM it's bogo wine!
I ordered a Big Mickey's Burger with gouda, bacon, and all the fixings. It came with a side of strangely shaped curly potato wedges! The burger was surprisingly big and flavorless, dry yet overflowing with juice. I'm not sure. It was just a strange burger. I had to eat it with lots of ketchup... Anyways, those curly potato wedges were totally awesome and crispy. I still cleaned my plate so it was good.
Shared a small plate of their famous tator tots (6 for $3 during happy hour) and yes they were really that good. Crunchy on the outside while soft and creamy on the inside. Paired with a spicy mayo and simply divine.
My fellow diners ordered the bratwurst and quinoa salad and they enjoyed their entrees.
Wednesday night is also trivia night which starts at 7PM and lasts till about 9PM. If you're not into that they had Halloween movies still playing the day after Halloween. If you're not into that they also have card games available to borrow.
Plenty of beer on tap, in bottles, or even in a can. Also a decent selection of wines available as well. Metered parking around the area ($0.50/hr at the meter or $0.75/hr via the app). One server at the bar and one for the tables yielded rather slow service. Our food, including the 6 tater tot app, took 30 minutes to come out from when we ordered, and we had sat down 10-15 minutes before that......Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Derick D.Miami, FL6015373228Aug 23, 2019Updated review
My last visit was nearly two years ago and I have to admit, I forgot how good this place is. We visited for the beer, but the food will keep us coming back.
Bar Red Beard has a fantastic craft beer menu. They have a ton of local and distant bottled and canned craft beer. They also have an impressive rotating draft selection.
The large chalkboard has been updated to a huge projector screen listing all the beers they have available. This visit I went with the Crooked Stave Trellis Buster and the Champions Brewing Missile IPA. Trellis Buster is a fantastic double IPA. Super juicy with a mild bitterness and a strong citrus flavor. It has a perfect hop/malt balance. Delicious tangerine/grapefruit aroma. Highly recommend. Missile IPA was slightly bitter with a medium body. A solid American IPA.
Food: Tater Tots, Burger, and Sweet and Sour Chicken Salad Sandwich.
The food is incredible. Vastly underrated. The tots were awesome. They tasted like delicious hash browns rolled up into round bite sized pieces. The sauce it came with was out of this world. We dipped everything in it. The Sweet and Sour Chicken Salad Sandwich is light, but extremely flavorful. The side winder fries are to die for. They are a combination of potato wedge/fry. The burger was solid as well. Perfectly cooked and juicy.
Service is outstanding. They have some awesome weekday specials and happy hour deals. On Friday, during happy hour everything was $2 off, food and beer. Absolute hidden gem. We were the only patrons on a Friday during lunch time which confounds me. Bar Red Beard is one of the best places to grab a beer and lunch on Friday... or any day. Highly recommend.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0Oct 18, 2017Previous reviewWhat a gem! They have a great selection of craft beers and some really tasty IPA's. I came here with a co-worker on a Friday around noon. It was just us in there and one other person sitting at the bar. We sat at a high-top table. One of the Sharknado movies was being played on the TV with volume. It was awesome! We were quickly greeted by the bartender. I forget her name, but she was extremely helpful explaining the various craft beers.
I ordered the sweet and sour chicken salad sandwich. Man, it was extremely tasty. It was paired with these unique homemade style potato chips. It was really a great lunch. Unfortunately, they ran out of the infamous tater tots I keep seeing being mentioned in various reviews. I will definitely be back soon to try them and some of their other IPA's and unique lunch offerings. - Jul 18, 2017
This place is awesome. Staying at a hotel nearby, multiple people recommended that we walked over to meet Mike and his team. The selection of craft beers, ciders, sours, and wines are great. Their draft list is constantly changing daily so it's always fun to see what they have.
The food menu is smaller but each item I have had has been great. The tater tots are fantastic, the big Mickey burger was great, and we really enjoyed meatloaf Monday. The French fries that come with the burger were fantastic and I loved dipping them in the tot sauce.
The atmosphere is perfect and exactly what I love. Classy and clean while still having the small hole in the wall feel. Great music and awesome things to look at on the walls. Also 2 large TVs above the bars as well.
I'll definitely be back while I'm in the area for work. Give these guys a shot!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
