Today - For Lease sign / no sign of business there
when we went for coffee. Crossed the street and had good coffee with delicious lunch at Over the Moon instead which gets a 5 star rating.

For Lease sign behind red gate. No sign of any coffee shop today.

A friend and I were looking for a place to study for a few hours and stumbled upon B Sharp Coffee House. The shop is located in an alley and can be difficult to find. If you want to park for free, you will be driving around for awhile, but there is a number of paid parking nearby.

The atmosphere was quiet and cozy, and was the perfect refuge from the dreary Tacoma day. The ruben sandwich was delicious and the staff was extremely friendly. They had a number of suggestions, but it was pretty obvious that they were vegetarians, so if you like meat, maybe just select on your own laurels. Be brave! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

For the studiously minded, there are a variety of tables, ranging from small to large. They even have couch space, if you're not a table studier. They have a number of outlets on the periphery, which is great for long study sessions. Just beware that they have live music in the evenings. It's definitely a day time study place!

And on a separate note, don't let your journey to the bathroom scare you. The bathroom is located through a back door and down a corridor. It is nicely decorated, but the concrete walls can make the space feel a bit dark and gothic. I assure you that the bathroom is very nice, clean, and safe!

Looking for a vibey coffee shop? This is your spot. Absolutely beautiful inside, awesome coffee, and an assortment of food/beer/wine.

I would love to come and hear live music here sometime, or even to plug in my laptop and work during a quiet, kidless evening.

My vanilla latte was perfect, and my husband got his signature Americano, which was solid. Our son enjoyed his pastry and shot glass of chocolate milk. I wish I lived closer, I would come much more often! Keep it up!

A two year old enjoying his quiet time!

Finally I made it to B Sharp! I really enjoyed it! It is spacious, relaxing and not tiny where you can immerse yourself in your studies, reading, visiting and all the other activities when you do social transactions at coffee houses! The night we were here it was pretty quiet which we like but they do have bands that play here as well so you would need to sacrifice your quiet time at that point.
Here we ordered a sausage and cheese plate and a quesadilla. All of which were delicious! We in fact over ordered and had to take some of our food home because we ordered too much!
The staff here was very friendly and welcoming!
There seems to be a back room towards the restrooms that has a catacombs feel to it right down to dripping water coming off the walls(not intentional) which would be a good escape on nights when you don't want to see whatever band that may be playing.
Really a cool coffee shop situated in Opera Alley which adds some artsy to downtown Tacoma.

My only wish is that it was open until midnight, but you can't have everything I suppose.

It is my favorite place in town!

I tried hard to like this place.

Tucked away in Opera Alley, just a little ways away from PSP, is this artsy Tacomian coffee house.

Pros: Live music, seemingly non-pretentious decor, reminiscent of Brooklyn coffee houses, more food options than your average coffee cakes/pastries, lots of seating, a staff member there named Adam reminds me of Adam Levine but the Tacoma version and he's super nice.

      Cons:
-Staff are unfriendly/busy 70% of the time. (spesh'the females)
-Entrance and the "stage" are both in the front. So if you're late to jazz night, you walk basically through the set and every one stares at you. I can't be the only one, always late, right? It's also strange because if people leave in the middle of the set, they do so between songs and the people performing watch them leave (was the song that bad?) as with everyone else. Not a sensitive thing, I think more of a flow-of-events suggestion. They should re-work the layout a scowch.

COFFEE CON (which put this review at a 3)
I always order an Americano (occasionally will add Vanilla if i'm feeling less serious) Coffee 5 times out of 7 has lacked that bitter aroma I like to get out of my espresso, had stale tones, lacks acidity and has an antiquated aftertaste of something like 1 month old coca-cola filtered through a set of thrift store encyclopedia paper. It only lasts for a second, but it's not enjoyable but yet, still drinkable.

I'd love to say that I'm being dramatic but this has consistently been my experience here. I keep trying it again because like I said, I wanted to like this place. It has so many things going for it. Maybe this is a sign I should switch to tea or something.

I was hoping it was a fluke or I came on a bad day, but it's just the way it is.

That said, I'm still not ruling this place out.
We have a friend who performs here every so often so I'll keep my mind open.

4 Stars overall--AMAZING espresso but the building was very warm ( no AC) and a little dark for our taste. Seating was super unique. Nice vibe.

They didn't get a delivery so we couldn't try the sandwiches but I'm sure they would have been great. The barista was nice :) And it's on an awesome little kind of hidden street.

B Sharp is awesome! It's cozy, it's hip, the hallway to the bathrooms is pretty sweet, they serve good treats, eats, & beverages, and I love how involved they are in the community. There is a calendar of events located by the coffee bar if you're interested. The live music and speak easy events are what I mostly come here for. I like the variety of seating, as well as the little notes one can randomly find in the desk/table hybrids. This is a great place to find some quiet time for reading or doing work. Not so hot for drawing since it's a little too dark for my visual comfort, but eh. Sometimes I've made it work. The staff here is awesome too. That's actually how I found out about this place; I have a few friends that work here and, knowing my style, urged me to come in and try 'em out. :-)

I think this could be one of the best total experience small music venues I have been to in a loooong time. Let me say first and foremost the vibe is great! The pour-over coffee was stellar and the range of dishes we all had from hummus to reubens, to flatbread pizzas they were all very tasty. We all opted not to get the local sausage for some reason... but that will be a choice next time for sure. They looked delicious and folks at the table next to us were raving about them. The staff were super nice, and fun which is always such a factor when you look at the big picture.

To be able to get good fare and sit and listen to live music is what the world needs more of. It's apparent that the folks who own/run the place care about the experience. And I know it sounds kooky, but the trip to the bathroom is an added plus to the experience in the coolest of ways. I cannot wait to go back.
