This is my go to car rental spot! They always have great car options, quick service, and the online process makes it an easy transaction for me. The thing I like most is the find various was to provide discounts whether your are an AARP cardholder or an Amazon Prime member...there's some kind of perk available.
I normally pick my car up from the downtown location. The staff there are super cool. It's always a welcoming environment.

If I could give zero stars I would. This is the second time renting a car here and show up at the end of the night and there's no cars. What good is a reservation?!?

Ok I gotta say I was nervous renting from here based off the reviews BUT I was pleasantly surprised. I went down early to make sure a car would be available and they were able to give me my rental earlier than expected! The gentlemen at the front desk was polite and answered all of our questions. No complaints, easy process. In and out within an hour!

Reserved a car, the guy was jerking me around for hours telling me 30 more mins. Hours later he finally admitted they had no cars and I had to request a refund and put me way behind on my vacation.. Very unprofessional when they make mistakes.

I reserved a car online and when I arrived at this location my PAID reservation was denied because you have to a credit score of 750. Now they are holding my funds hostage for 3-5 when they took my money out of my account in less than 3 minutes after said reservation. This is by far the worst experience that I have had with Avis who WAS my go to for rentals. I have spoken to 5 people at their customer service number and no one is showing any professional customer service. Ezekiel, employee number16509 ended our phone call bc there was no manager available after repeatedly stating that my funds cannot be released because of my bank. I informed them that I spoke with my bank and that all they need is the authorization number and they are refusing to issue that to me.

Guy was friendly. Gave me an upgrade. The building itself was fine. It was a pretty standard car rental experience. He didn't pressure me about buying rental insurance after I said my credit card had it.

I cannot describe the level of service, attention and all around positive experience we had with this shop. They provided transport to and from the shop, an upgrade and superior treatment. Courteous, friendly, timely. They followed up and I will rent from here each time I visit downtown Memphis. Oh, really really great pricing as well. 5 stars. Thank you Cedric and Susan.

Reserved a rental car to be picked up at 10 am. When I got there, there were about 3 people ahead of me. By the time she got to me, she said she had rented the last car and I would have to wait until someone returned a car. So I couldn't find another rental on such a short notice so I had to sit and wait in the lobby for about an hour until someone returned a car. Trip delayed and day ruined.

Paid for a Lincoln Continental, Received a Hyundai SUV
My recent experience with Avis was terrible, it will be the last time I rent from them. Several weeks in advance of our vacation we reserved a Lincoln Continental, to be picked up from their location in downtown Memphis, TN, and returned four days later to the Memphis airport location. When we arrived at the pickup location the manager told us he did not have a Lincoln Continental, but could give us an SUV instead. I assumed he would make appropriate adjustments in the charges. That was a bad assumption. Anxious to keep our family vacation on schedule we loaded our luggage into the SUV and got on the highway. The following day I had some time, so I decided to call Avis to confirm that the charges had been adjusted. First I went to the Avis website to compare the rates for the Hyundai SUV we received vs. the Lincoln Continental we had reserved. The difference shown was $180 for the four day rental.
When I called the Memphis downtown location where I had rented the car no one answered the phone. Then I called the Avis central customer service number. The service rep looked up my rental and told me no adjustment had been made in the rates. He said any adjustment needed to be made at the time of the pickup!! He claimed he could not reduce the rate but said I should return the car to the pickup location if I didn't like it. I was 150miles away from Memphis on vacation!!
When I insisted on talking to a supervisor the service rep refused to make one available, I was on hold two different times for over ten minutes. He suggested that I call back in an hour. Finally the service rep offered a $20 discount, this for a $180 discrepancy!! After further argument he agreed on a $50 adjustment. When I asked how I could be sure this would be applied he said, "no problem, I'll give you a reference number."
Now comes the further problem. When returning the car to the Memphis airport location I told the agent there should be a $50 adjustment to the reserved rate. She looked at me like I had an eye in the middle of my forehead. I told her, "This has been arranged with Avis customer service, here is the reference number." The agent (at the Avis check-in counter) said she had no way to use the reference number, she couldn't look it up, she couldn't reference it, it meant nothing to her. I asked her to check with someone, she made a phone call and then told me, all she could do is close out the rental at the original rate, no discount!!
That's it for me, no more rentals from Avis. I advise everyone to be very careful when dealing with them.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
