Mr John can hear an engine and know what's wrong...having a u.S. Navy career in aviation mechanics and engineering, our community is blessed to have him as a solution to quality auto care.
In my case, I went in to take my 11 year old Chevrolet for it's 200K mile tune up. Not only was his price on repairs very fair, he was thorough. And that professionalism, that pride in doing it right the first time is rare in today's world. An honest, experienced mechanic...Priceless.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Madeline A.LA, LA181Jan 16, 2022
Someone hit my car while it was in my driveway lol, anyways they took care of everything and got it in FAST, and finished literally in 2 days ( I liked my rental so I was like oh take your time haha! ).

I approach everything relating to my car with a healthy dose of skepticism. They quoted me a high price for the repair on my car, so I called around. It turns out that the part that needed replacing was much more expensive than I thought (I had been looking at aftermarket parts). I eventually had them do my repair and also my inspection sticker. They even gave me some lagniappe repairs :-) They were very nice and honest about everything they thought needed to be done. I have an older car, so it doesn't need any bells and whistles. I am writing this review a few months later to attest to the fact that the repairs were effective unlike other shops I've been to. I would definitely use again.

My 2001 Jeep required repair for a jammed shock caused by a broken rear mount. A Goodyear tire facility recommended Auto Master because, "Auto Master has the skills and equipment to rebuild the shock mount." John, the ASE certified owner of Auto Master, inspected the Jeep and made an immediate temporary repair to prevent damage to the vehicle. John needed time to search for the correct parts to replace the rusted, broken mounts. The next day John presented several options for rebuilding the rusted area and installing new rear mounts and shocks. A detailed estimate and parts list for the repair I selected was prepared. John ordered the parts. After all of the necessary parts were in the shop, John called to set the repair appointment. I asked John if he would also perform maintenance on the cooling system, brakes, and oil leaks.
On the day of the appointment, John inspected the vehicle and prepared a second written estimate for the additional maintenance. The Jeep was repaired in a timely manner with no surprises, and on budget. Also the Louisiana "Brake Tag" inspection was completed. I drove the Jeep on an 800 mile round trip to Tennessee. No maintenance problems developed. There were no oil leaks. Auto Master of Slidell is the most professional, organized, and clean repair facility that I have experienced in fifty-two years of driving. The staff is professional, efficient, and courteous.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I had a hard time selecting a rating for Auto Master. John, the shop manager/owner did me numerous favors and did not try to rip me off. However, the 'fix' still needs to be fixed.
Two friends and I left Austin the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend for DC. Everything was going fine as we left NOLA late Friday morning. About twenty minutes from Mississippi I lost control over the accelerator of the car. I pulled over and restarted the car only to have the same thing happen...twice...the final time on I-59N.
I have seen enough scary movies and heard enough horror stories to be scared of some backwoods mechanics screwing me over while I had trouble deciphering their cryptic 'twang' (or 'drawl'). Plus I only had until the end of that day to fix my car, or be stranded in the bayou over the Memorial Day weekend.
I called AAA and they sent me to Auto Master of Slidell. My car was towed to the shop not far from I-10 where I waited for an hour for the manager (John) to show up. Upon arrival he explained why he was late and what he thought the problem was (he only needed ten minutes to look at the car). He was very thorough with his explanations and what he thought the trouble was.
We tried the fuel filter, the ignition switch, and finally the fuel pump. We tried each fix individually and road-tested the car afterwards (and gave me a mini Hurricane Katrina history lesson and testimonial). The ignition switch turned out to not be an issue (it was the fuel pump). John and the other mechanic stayed late (before Memorial Day weekend) to install the fuel pump and remove the ignition switch (he did not charge me for material and only half of labor costs...pretty fair). [In hindsight it was the other mechanic that did the work with only John providing oversight at the end.] We filled up the tank and got out of Slidell before Saturday and thought we would be fine.
We stopped for breakfast in Gadsden, Alabama the next morning, and also stopped to refuel the car...the three of us went to use the bathroom while the car refilled. Upon returning to the car, one my travel companions, Katie, pointed out that my car was leaking. As we got closer we both noticed the car stunk of gasoline. I looked under the car to find that gasoline was cascading down the side of the gas tank. Of course there were no mechanics open until Tuesday so I called John (he had given me his cell phone number). We talked about the problem and after a few attempts to fix it over the phone he told me I could keep driving as long as I didn't fill the tank more than 3/4. He also told me to have the car fixed and to send him the bill so he could reimburse me.
We ended up getting to DC by Sunday (with the car only smelling like gasoline when we went under 30mph). I think that John and his mechanic may have rushed the installation in order to get home for the weekend, but I would certainly trust him to do work on my car in the future. If you are ever stranded in eastern Louisiana, I would head to Auto Master.
6/4 UPDATE:
I'm lowering the review to 2 stars since my DC mechanic told me I was lucky I didn't die. Apparently two different parts of the fuel pump were not installed correctly: the mechanic did not tighten one of the bolts enough, and the o-ring part of the fuel pump assembly was not installed correctly. Now we find out it if Auto Master will still reimburse me.
6/24 UPDATE:
I sent Auto Master my invoice and they promptly mailed me a check. I might consider trying Auto Master again, but it's tough to say until I get there.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
