Austin's pizza offers good pizza and a convenient location close to campus. We went on a weekday afternoon after the lunch rush and it was not crowded. The service was fine and the people friendly. A lot of the reviews here are really negative about the service, so maybe it depends on what time to you and who is working.

We got a personal size pizza to split that had good toppings, nice crispy crust and enough, but not too much cheese.

Overall it was a good experience. I will go there again.

    Sometimes less is more.

Service was fine, even though the place was packed thanks to a group fundraiser.  On average $15 for a 14 inch pie seemed on the higher side than I'm used to.

Me and a friend split the Mopac (i.e. their version of the supreme) and this is clearly where less needs to be more.  Sure I can't complain about the heaping amount of vegetables they put on the pie, but it was so overwhelming that the crust got soggy and I couldn't even taste the meat.  I also sampled a couple of other pies (Margarita and bbq) and some of the breadsticks.  Nothing really stood out though.

Honestly, I'd rather take the long wait at Mellow Mushroom, or venture further out for salvation pizza or homeslice.

    OMG! I feel duped!!

As I have mentioned in a previous review I'm a bit of a pizza snob but I do love pizza so I'm always looking for the next great pizza place. I read some reviews here on Yelp and people seemed to love Austin's Pizza. WHAT WERE THEY EATING??? There was absolutely nothing redeeming about this establishment. The ambiance was nonexistent, the staff was less than stellar, and the pizza... good God, the pizza!

I judge every pizza place by the quality of their plain cheese pizza, if you mess that up you clearly don't know what you're doing. Austin's Pizza does not know what they're doing. Their dough was chewy, seemingly undercooked, and bland. Their sauce was neither sweet nor tangy, the way a good pizza sauce should be, it tasted like they opened a can of plain tomato sauce and poured it over their bland dough. The cheese was fine but hardly made up for the rest of that catastrophe!

My advice to you is to avoid this place, at all costs, unless you don't have the sense of taste. There are better options in this city, I promise you this!

    Nom nom nom!

Pizza is one of my favorite foods and this place always satisfies me when I need a fix.

Their options are amazing for anyone with a special needs diet too. They have vegan and gluten free options. They do fun things on the pizza if you request it (like making me a harry potter lightning bolt). They deliver extremely fast and the people who work there are very friendly and accommodating

I only wish they had bigger sizes. They can be a little pricey but the quality and consistency of their food/service will always have me coming back for more. This is the only place I'll get pizza in austin.

Several years ago (8 years) I would have given Austin's Pizza more stars. But today they get 2. They haven't been able to keep up with the competition.

The dough is odd. The cheese is overdone (I LOVE cheese and never thought it was possible to overdo cheese) and toppings over underdone. They are also pricey for what you get. I understand the cost of freshness but I am not sure it is worth it here.

The pizza doesn't reheat well for some reason either.

    Horrible service!  Absolutely horrible!

Me and the hubs went one Saturday around 12.  Place was pretty empty, maybe 3 small groups of people in the whole restaurant.  We sat down and waited on service.  And waited... waited... waited....   We were literally 6 feet from the bartender, so I know he saw us come in and sit there waiting.  Finally we walked up to the bar to order from there instead.  And guess what?!  We waited, and waited and waited.  He was busy turned around watching the football game on tv (and I promise, it wasn't an interesting match-up).  The nerve of that guy!  I tapped my card on the bar and made other audible noises to get his attention and was completely ignored!  So, we left, went next door and had food in our stomachs in half the time we spend waiting at Austin's freaking Pizza.

    Never again!

I like Austin's Pizza!  I like them even more now that they send out deals via Twitter.  Every Tuesday is 4 pizza rolls for $4.  Today I got a large two-topping pizza for 50 cents, thanks to Twitter!  You should definitely follow them if you're on Twitter and you like pizza!

My favorite pizza, the Rosemary, is no longer on the menu.  I started ordering the Brazos after several students requested it and it's my new favorite.

The location is so convenient to campus.  We used this location for large catering orders for years when I worked for a well-funded department on campus.  My only advice is to ask for a delivery time 15-30 minutes before you actually need it to arrive.

    Excellent Service Every Time!

I go here a lot. It is conveniently located on "the drag" and is super close to campus. Normally, before I discovered Austin Pizza, I hate flat crust pizza. If it wasn't pan crust or thick crust from like Pizza Hut or Dominos, I would not eat it. A friend of mine dragged me into this place one day for lunch and my opinion on thin crust pizza was forever changed.

First Impressions: When you walk in, it is this big room with limited seating's on the first floor. I remember thinking where am I going to sit? I didn't realize at the time that there was a second floor full of tables and a full service bar in the back corner. We proceeded to the counter and ordered pizza. I was hesitant of course.

I got the personal size pizza (7 or 10 inch I think) combo drink included for about $8 bucks. The manager at the counter was really nice and he explained to me how to make my order which was basically for the lunch combo, pick two toppings and wah-la, your pizza is complete. I picked mushrooms and pepperoni. It's a safe choice especially for me in case I didn't like the pizza and had to give to someone else.

They give you a cup for your drink and a number for your order so the server can find you later I guess and you can fill up your drink at the drink fountain thing to the right of the counter. We walked up stairs (amazing because I didn't realize there were stairs at first).

The pizza arrived, small and personal. Each slice fitted perfectly into my hand and in about 3 bits, I finished my first slice of thin crust pizza that I wasn't repulsed about. The toppings were fresh, especially the mushrooms, just enough grease for a pizza, and the crust while lacking was soft and chewy. At least, I didn't feel like a parrot, "Polly want a hard cracker" for my crust.  I totally fell in love.

So I continued to go there for lunch and got different toppings each time (pineapple and pepperoni, hamburger and mushrooms) Most of the time, I was with one other friend. It's a really relaxed place to be at so it's okay if you don't have a friend to come along.

I went with a group of about 6 once to the place and realized they had BBQ chicken pizza which I has by the way a very strong BBQ smell floating into the air and invading every other smell in its path.

They have this pizza called MoPac which is dedicated to one of Austin's highway. MoPac included every topping: pepperoni, green & black olives, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, bell peppers, ham, can't remember what else, but the toppings were toppling over. Both the pizza we ordered that night was 14 inches. Trust me, the boys and 2 girls were stuffed.

They also serve pizza rolls which I didn't know until now. It was stuffed full with pepperoni on the inside, soft and chewy bread baked until the outside was an even dark golden brown. It came with two sauces (not sure if it was free or not) but the classic marinara sauce and ranch.

The guy who worked there, Justin or whatever his name is was really nice. I went with my group at around 10pm on a Sunday night and since we ordered 2 pizzas and those rolls, he gave us free drinks so that saved us about $12 bucks combined.

I recommend this place to everyone..."roll out"

Can't really complain about their pizza -- it's fine, nothing special. But like previous reviews say, the service sucks.

I've been here numerous times but it's been in the past year or so that I've encountered a problem literally every visit. Aside from never accepting payment options they advertise (ahem, Bevo Bucks -- don't judge), they are really slow at handling orders. The second-to-last time I went was during a slow afternoon, and they somehow forgot my order. I ended up waiting another 20 minutes or so after I figured this out before I got my small order of pizza rolls. The last time I went, also during a weekday afternoon, I had to wait almost 40 minutes for a 10" personal pizza. The excuse was that they had a large to-go order that had taken precedence. A little absurd if you ask me. What irks me most is that the staff and manager are always seemingly unapologetic, as if demand for their food is inelastic; get a grip.

Just because you may find yourself stuck on campus with seemingly few pizza options I do not recommend this place -- I'd much rather walk a few blocks for some good, quick pizza from Hot Slice.

My husband and I grabbed dinner here earlier this week because we were meeting up later with friends nearby, wanted pizza, and hadn't checked out this location yet.

We parked a block away behind Guadalupe, then just cut through the Renaissance Market.  UT is on break right now, so it wasn't a problem at all to find a metered spot, even at night.

We didn't even make it upstairs, and sat right near the counter near this awesome mural of Austin that's 75% complete.  I can't stop thinking about this mural, for some reason, wondering if someone is working on it currently, or if it's been in this state of incompletion for a long time.  If someone can shed light on that, I'd appreciate it!  For those that haven't been, the mural is like a board game, with a trail of squares for a "player" to follow, and said "player" would also stop at various locales in Austin, painted faithfully, e.g., The Paramount, The Backyard, Governor's Mansion, the Tower, etc.

Pizza was decent.  We split a large pie and that was more than enough... it's $14.99, and you can get two toppings, and they don't mind if you go halfsies on the toppings, and soda was included, as I remember.  I went back up to the counter to ask if I could get a side of ranch, but the cashier guy was helping some other customers.  Another employee came over to me to ask what I needed- I was impressed and didn't expect that kind of customer service from college kids.

Like Catherine D. and Sarah M., I dig Austin's pizza. Love the upper deck seating area with lots of windows, TVs, and beer. Although the last time I was there the staff was a bit frazzled, all in all this is a great spot for a hot pie when you're in the campus area.

Is this the best pizza you've ever had, ever? No. Will it fill your "I'm-craving-something-cheesy-and-carb-filled?" Yes. And for me, that's pretty much all I need these days. (That is, when I'm not willing to wait in traffic to get to SoCo for Home slice.)

I have only eating Austin's Pizza on two occasions. The first was a normal delivery. The delivery went smooth, and the pizza was good though too greasy for my taste. The price is a bit high for the quantity and quality you receive in return.

My second experience was with a large group of over 100 people. Yes, this chaotic setting is not a fair condition to judge this establishment on, so I will try to be as level-headed as possible. I will not judge the service (except that they have trouble handling 100+ people, which is not really a bad thing), but the pizza itself was greasier and smaller than I remembered. Toppings were falling off the one-topping pizzas and the grease was just unbearable!

Overpriced and overgreased, Austin's Pizza is an overrated establishment.

I have been here a couple times for socials & happy hour but I have only ate here once. I went for lunch and expected it to be busy but it wasn't at all. I ordered the pizza rolls because I wanted to compare them to Double Daves.
I sat upstairs in a booth like area and the table was very rocky and unsteady but didn't take away from my experience.
The pizza rolls arrived very quickly and boy were they good!!! I definitely enjoyed them and I am ready to go back.

    Austin's pizza simply sucks.

I have had numerous problems with orders from them, the most recent when we tried to order from them on Thanksgiving.  Their website let me enter an order, I received a confirmation of the order by email, and then the pizza never came.  We waited over an hour and a half and I tried calling their number 10 times only to receive a "wait for the next available person..."  Turns out they were CLOSED!  You could place an order, there was nothing in their voicemail about being closed, but according to them, "somewhere" on their website they list their hours and indicated they weren't open on Thanksgiving.  I didn't see it despite looking for it.  We called and asked them if they could give us a discount or anything and they said "sorry"... well we'll never order from them again.

    They suck.

AND honestly their pizza is average - there are SO MANY BETTER alternatives like Rounders (awesome), Brick Oven, and Milto's (also awesome).

This staple location on the drag is ideal for getting together with an organization and offers an upstairs with a full bar and a couple of TVs.  Overall, the look of the place is nice and feels like you are in a downtown-ish atmosphere.  I wouldn't recommend visiting the bathrooms however, I would just hold that thought.

The pizza is pretty good, I have no complaints.  I typically order the Hawaiian and my boyfriend gets the BBQ Chicken.  The only complaint I ever have about the pizza is that it's definitely one of the greasiest pizzas I've ever eaten....which isn't necessarily a bad thing :)

I would recommend stopping in there if you have some time to kill or are meeting with friends, it's definitely worth eating, but doesn't make it into my top 10 pizzas ever.  I think the best time to go is at lunch because they have lunch specials where you can get a 10-inch pizza, salad and a drink for like $6.99.

So I was in a rush because I didn't want to make my friends wait for me while I figured out what to eat as a snack along our walk down Guadalupe street. I decided to stop in at Austin's Pizza to order a slice of cheese pizza, but to my surprise they don't serve slices all day. WHAT A BLESSING IN DISGUISE! I quickly decided on having the pizza rolls because there was no way I would allow myself to have an entire pizza (which I am capable of) as a 'snack.'

For about $7 you get four delicious pizza rolls that are filled with either pepperoni and cheese or spinach and cheese. I chose the pepperoni and cheese with a side of Ranch sauce- HEAVEN!!! My friends soon joined me and asked for a piece here and a piece there, so I had to give up some of my little rolls from heaven.

They all agreed that the pizza rolls were divine, and you can't beat divinity at $7- lol.

Years later, you're sitting with 5 of your best friends from college, reminiscing about the glory days. Someone says, "Remember how many times we ate at that pizza place?"

I have a feeling that for scores of UT students past and present, Austin's Pizza on campus has been or will be the topic of this question of nostalgia. Austin's is nothing spectacular, but it achieves a wondrous goal. Smack dab in the middle of the Guadalupe "drag", the two-floor restaurant is a popular watering hole for undergrads. The big screen TVs and mish-mash of booths and high tables are perfect for watching the big game with your buddies. Frat boys fill the long tables, serious students huddle in the back, and many-a-table are occupied by twosomes on second or third dates.

Stop in the front lobby to check out the impressive collection of celebrity-signed pictures. Sit upstairs to take it all in and enjoy the interesting view of campus, but be prepared for the loud and continual musical stylings of ESPN.

The most important thing about Austin's Pizza on campus, and the reason it garnishes the 4th star from me...the pizza is very good. Even as they compete with crowded tables and impatient sports nuts, they manage to place in front of you a hot, cheesy, completely edible pizza with plenty of napkins on the side. I hate to keep harping on it, but if you live in Austin, you know this is a difficult feat.

Even if your undergrad days are long over, stop by the drag to steep yourself in remembrance, and enjoy a large pizza with a basketball game on the side.

Meh.  I have found the pizza and the pepperoni rolls to just be alright.

And you should know that I'm a pizza whore -- you could hand me a piece of cardboard with tomato sauce and cheese on it and tell me it was pizza and I'd probably eat it.  (and like it!)

The crust here seems crispy, but a little bland.  Same for the sauce (at least the bland part).

I do *heart* them for having garlic as a topping!!  too many pizza places don't and those that do I will definitely give a little leeway.

And I do like the atmosphere a lot -- the place oozes pizza parlor but not in a fake shiny way -- in a mildly grungy way that I dig.

Service -- which is minimal (you order at a counter and then they bring it to you) -- has always been friendly.

I'm happy to have their lunch specials -- either a personal pizza with two toppings or three pepperoni rolls with ranch (raaaaaaaanch) or marinara and a drink.  When I'm solo and have a pizza craving, it's a decent way to get it satisfied.

Not the best pizza: 2.5 stars.  +0.5 because their ranch was damn tasty.  Austin's Pizza, you're not my favorite, you're not the best, but I'll be back.

I grew up in a place where really good pizza abounded, so I'm jaded against the pizza here in Austin.  This is another place that I tried with a hopeful heart, only to be thankful that I live in a place with great Mexican food and barbecue.

For some reason, the pizza makers in Austin refrain from being generous with the two most important toppings on pizza.  They all seem to follow the same not much cheese and hardly any sauce recipe.  As stated in a previous review, it's also hard for me to discern spaghetti sauce with the "pizza sauce" used deep in the heart of Texas.

I have a couple of friends that love to tell the story of how they heard this place had good pizza and after taking a couple bites each, started throwing the rest out of their car window onto Lamar Boulevard.  I know, it's littering, but sometimes you have to have a sense of humor about being let down.

My second favorite pie in Austin, next to Home Slice. Although there is more than one in town, its not a chain like Pizza hut, and they actually make a very great tasting NY-style pie.

Pepperoni and mushroom is a great standby, plus they have really good Caesar salad.

An added plus is that they deliver!

Austin's pizza is the best pizza place in town along with their Varsity Bar upstairs.  They have the best pizza in town which comes in all sorts of varieties.  Whether you want a specialty pizza with all sorts of stuff on it or just a plain pizza theirs are all the best.  Also if you're not in the mood for pizza, their pizza rolls are fantastic.  I recommend the Brazos or the Mopac, they both come loaded with lots of good stuff and are delicious.  I love the place.

Add in the fact that they have a good bar upstairs to go with it makes it awesome.  During the football season last year they had $1 jager shots every time Texas scored which if you know the team last year, there were lots of cheap shots to be had.

Overall it's a great Austin owned pizza company which reaches out to it's customers and actually connects to the people they're trying to serve.  I love it.

Went for lunch with a co-worker and ordered a large "Mopac" pizza.  When the pizza arrived, it looked very nice, until my co-worker found a rather awful looking hair in the pizza.  It was not the kind of hair that grows on the top of your head.

We immediately reported it.  The girl helping us was too cool for school, and gave us a rather anemic and disinterested apology.  When we went downstairs to get our money back and leave, she was showing what appeared to be the manager.  He said nothing to us.  She was silent for the entire 8 minutes it took her to figure out how to open the cash register and give us our money back.

I really want to like this place, but as long as they keep employing hipsters that are too good for the job, and as long as they have a chronically dirty restroom, my money will go elsewhere.

I can understand a hair on the pizza (but not THAT kind of hair).  I cannot forgive the bad service and generally filthy facility.

    Done.

Crappy service. The pizza was good but the level of service on a Friday during the day was bad.  We wanted to have some beer and pizza but basically had one beer while waiting for our pizza since no servers came around to ask for drinks and the bartender only was behind the bar for about 5 minutes to get our initial order.  We got better service and hospitality from Hole in the Wall.

What can I say. A dining establishment on the drag. There's something about those historical 8 blocks on the west side of UT campus that just screams....ew. Not that I'm prissy or anything, believe you me, I spent the better part of my undergraduate career bumming around in slightly recycled clothing that probably could have used a sprucing up, but the panhandlers...geez. seriously!? Schtinky. I suppose that's just a criticism of the greater drag area, not the fault of any one establishment, other than APD maybe...I digress.

This location of Austin's pizza has housed many a football watching days, the most memorable of which was the infamous Texas v. Tech game of 2008. What a shame. But, once again, off point. This location definitely caters to students, more so than your single location bars around campus, which try to reign in the alum crowd as well. What this means is basically that service is going to be pretty minimal, although acceptable, and the general cleanliness and order of the place goes by the wayside. Throngs of 18 to 22 year olds keep this place busy during game times, but if you want to check it out simply for what it is, the most basic recommendation I can give is avoid going within 48 hours of a Texas football game, and that time extends with an epic win or lose, as people go to drown their sorrows or fuel their fandom with cheap Lonestar pitchers and giant pieces of greasy, delicious pizza. Which brings me to the saving grace of this and all Austin's pizza locations: the pie is good. It's damn good, I'd say. However, it's overpriced. If I've got some money to burn and I'm already right there, I'll throw down for some Austin's, but if there is any deliberation going into it, there are several other locales that I would rather hit up for my money, even if they aren't so close to campus.

I realize this is a college hangout and I am perhaps a decade or two, too old to be eating here but I like the pizza. Don't hate me, but I am a big fan of vegetarian pizza. I just prefer it to meat on my pie. They make a great Mediterranean pizza with feta and artichokes and the works. If you have been downtown drinking and need to absorb the booze before bed, this place hits the spot. Also I have had a great service here by the same gal more than once. I should have asked her name because she always sits down and tells me how here night is going, smiles and is always working hard. It's nice to see the old school work ethic in the young-ins these days.  My kid likes this pizza too so maybe that will motivate him to keep up his grades so he can go to UT. Okay, maybe that's just wishful thinking, but he is getting a B in history. Hooray for Andrew.

People, People. Pizza is supposed to be made in a pizza oven. Not on a conveyer belt. Austin Pizza ranks just up there with Mangia's... Zero Stars. Wanna a good pizza check out East Side Pies!

I love Austin's Pizza! The pizza is the best in the campus area, and they have tons of options. The big draw for me is the bar area upstairs; it's nice and roomy so it's easy to have a big gathering for a birthday party or meeting. The drink specials during big games and stuff are also usually really good, the other day they had dollar drafts for the rollerderby. It's also where I watched Obama win the presidential election, so I'll always love Austin's!

Yeah I recant my other review of Austin's Pizza.... I was thinking of Mangia. But Austin Pizza is pretty good. My favorite is definitely the combo pizza... lots of good flavors
