Pretty much another Panda Express place almost. Except they offer boba and poke options. As a student here before there isn't much good options for food around campus for a good deal. Being Asian myself, I couldn't resist to get myself some okay price Asian food because I need to fill my hungry stomach after 6 hours of nonstop lecture.
As a student, I would probably come back here again. Since it the best closest option to class unless you have time to maybe walk all the way to subway for a sandwich for almost the same price. But if your not a in rush to class or anything then just drive or bus someone further for better options. Service is fast and easy so that's a plus. But the bad side is that the food aren't really fresh.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 17, 2012
Yeah, I've run the gamut of Chinese food, from downright spectacular to "holy lord that was bad."
This place pretty much falls somewhat above the latter category.
Generous portions? Yes. Generous portions of disappointment? You got it.
Being a poor, starving college student means making some sacrifices, including where food is concerned. If I'm on campus and want something quick and cheap, Asia Express is the place to go, but don't come expecting anything spectacular or even decent. Someone used the word "passable" to describe the food here - that about sums it up.
I was going to describe some dishes in particular, but frankly it's not worth the effort and everything I could say about one dish could be said about another. I tried this place a couple times, once out of curiosity and the second time purely to give it another shot. I've since sworn off Asia Express.
Third time's the charm?Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Nov 20, 2008
I just don't get it!
How can this place exist?
San Francisco has 100s of really good Chinese restaurants and SFSU has a large population of students that are exposed to some of the best Chinese food in town.
Then there is this place.
I have a lead belly and I can eat just about anything, but this place?
YIKES!
It's really fucking bad!
The meat is hard!
It's like shoe leather coated with really bad sweet & sour sauce. The rice is stale, the chow-mein has enough grease to lubricate a car engine and the prices aren't that good.
This place reminds me of the $1 Scoop shit-hole in Berkeley. You know the place where only homeless people and crack-addicts eat?
Not even sure if that place is still there.
This is what I'd imagine Chinese food to taste like at Glide Memorial Church during those free-food drives they have for the needy during the holidays.
I am sure the University can find another Chinese restaurant to come on campus.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Ravo Y.San Francisco, CA02531870Jan 8, 2011
The ladies are always super nice to me! And they always pack in the food whether I get it to-go or eat in! No such thing as too greasy Chinese food... the greasier it is, then you know it's closer to being the real deal. Mrmmmmmmmm.
Chow mein is always packed with veggies, fried rice is good, white rice could be softer, soy sauce chicken is gooood, mongolian chicken is yummyyy and they even have hot oolong tea!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 73110432531Oct 26, 2011
So far, the only item I like from here is the preserved egg and pork porridge. Service is okay, staff members are friendly and the porridge is good. I'll definitely come back when I crave for porridge.

aiight but not awesome. If you're looking for great Chinese food, don't eat here - but if you're just satisfying a craving or grumbeling stomach, then it's acceptable.

The biggest food disappointment on campus.
I really don't understand how people can enjoy the food here, bleh. But the biggest question is how can they mess up on Chinese food this badly?
I've tried this place several times ordering different items hoping it was just a fluke, and I kept insisting that I might've went on an off day, but NOPE. Time after time, the food was horrid. Nothing was edible to me, and nothing was ever finished. Or more like I take 3 bites max and it goes into the trash. What a waste....
Problem: Food is either too bland, or it tastes funky.... I can't even really describe it.
Never gonna eat here ever again.
They're always stingy about giving plastic utensils here too.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Chelsea P.Petaluma, CA559580268Mar 25, 2009
These reviews of Asia Express are pretty brutal.
Honestly, the food is pretty bunk, but hey, quality is relative. Well, pretty much all of the food options on the SFSU campus are pretty bad. I usually just stick to the hot and sour soup (vegetarian, only) which is $2.15 for a nice sized bowl. Some days it comes out piping hot and other days it's just luke warm. It's somewhat inconsistent, but it's cheap and it works and plus, there's a microwave just around the corner. The pork buns are big but they literally fuse to the parchment paper and get real messy. The kimchee is just gross, don't get it. The rest of the food is pretty heavy and greasy. Soup only for me, please.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Teresa K.San Francisco, CA115Jan 20, 2008
How do you give zero stars?
The majority of the food is, as expected, watered down for the American palate. Orange chicken is tough, dry, and completely indigestible. The steamed veggies taste like they've been steamed with sewage water... from two years ago. Fried rice was bland and unimaginative. I can go on and on.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
