Really loved this place. Very authentic southern service and hospitality. Lunch line service and depends on the day what they serve. Really the veggies here are unmatched- we split the yams and corn pudding both delicious. The other country fried chicken and grouper were amazing too. Favorite place we went to In Nashville. Peep the hours but recommend 100%

I believe this is where the idea of a "meat and three" was created.
Sadly, I waited until a few days before they closed their doors to finally visit Arnold's Country Kitchen. This cafeteria has served up amazing comfort foods like fried chicken, meat loaf, roast beef au jus, corn bread, mac n' cheese, and delicious desserts for over 40-years. Their last day being open is tomorrow, 1/7/23, so get here while you can!
I've heard a few rumors that the children of the owner might be working on something new. Fingers crossed!Helpful 22Thanks 0Love this 22Oh no 2 - Judith M.Anchorage, AK0122Mar 11, 2024
Home cooking, cafeteria style! Good food, nice people! Like an old style diner with booths and tables.

Hubby and I came here for our last lunch while in town and we're glad we did. There was some confusion at first when we walked in but we finally located the food line behind the bar. (hot tip because we saw a lot of people walk in and wander around like we did, clueless).
I ordered the roast beef, cauliflower casserole, greens and mashed potatoes with a side of their spicy chocolate pie.
Hubby went with their meatloaf, green beans, mashed and fried tomatoes. He also got a slice of pecan pie.
Later on, I sent him back for sides of green beans and their white beans cooked in bacon.
Overall this was comfort food and just felt like a warm hug. I can't say that we loved how sweet the meatloaf was but that's just their style. My roast beef was thinly sliced and perfect with the gravy. I also, as indicated, loved the green beans. The white beans were also so so tasty.
Portions are normal to a little dainty (hubby's meatloaf slice was tiny though) and I was somewhat surprised we were charged almost $60 for two meals, two pie slices, two soft drinks, tax and 20% tip. Inflation!
The people we encountered in line were super super nice and when we mentioned it was our first time here, they were all too happy to tell us what's up.
There was a bar where I think you can sit at and just order your food from instead of standing in line. That's something I would be happy to do our next go-around but it looked like it was mostly regulars hanging out.
Definitely a nice dining option.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 25978Jan 6, 2023
Man. Sad this place is closing and more upset that it took me so long to try this place out. Just overall great southern food at very reasonable prices at $15 for a meat and 3 sides. Truly exceptional food. I got the catfish, greens, mashed potatoes & gravy, and Mac & cheese. The sides were on the smaller side, but the price is reflective of that. There's tons of seating inside as well as at the bar with a separate line for to-go orders.
Parking is out front and is a pay lot, but it's validated by Arnold's. Sad to see this place go and hope they open up again in a new location in the future.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 44525927824Mar 21, 2023Updated review
I'm really sad to hear this great spot is closing... too much of old Nashville is being lost and the entire reason for being in Nashville is for fantastic joints like this!
Arnold's really surprised me as I was just expecting a typical Southern meat and three joint slinging simple food. As seems to be the norm in much of Nashville parking was a bit of a challenge and then there was a long line to stand in before getting to eat. I had read some reviews that mentioned the rare roast beef and I was pretty thrilled to see that I was fortunate to have arrived on a day when that roast beef was being served. I was expecting the roast beef to just be sitting in some pan being doled out but instead they had a huge roast at a carving station with a man freshly carving off the amazing meat directly into your plate and then adding a bit of au jus love to it. I was also sorely tempted to get the country fried steak as this seems to be one of the few places that do it without that nasty white gravy and instead use delicious and proper brown gravy but I had to get the rare roast beef so the only logical answer was to just get both. The only thing I was less than happy about is that there were no lemons for my iced tea which that also seems to have been a thing during my Nashville visit as apparently there is some great lemon shortage in the area or something. Overall this is a fantastic place with the cooking approaching gourmet levels of awesome deliciousness that really set it at a higher level than your typical meat and three joint.

Old school "Meat & 3" joint. Fantastic rare roast beef, crispy fried chicken et al. served with delicious Southern sides like collard greens, mashed potatoes, creamy Mac & cheese or corn pudding.
It's a bit divey, but that only accentuates it's charm. Plus, the ladies serving up the meals are fun to chat up and show hospitality.
Plus, the place is a bargain. Hard to spend more than $15/ person and you'll leave with a full belly.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Caitlin C.Turlock, CA5892123Dec 12, 2023
We went to Nashville for my husbands birthday and always look for restaurants to visit while we're traveling. This little spot was nothing short of amazing and truly did not disappoint! So delicious and the service was spectacular!
