The Restaurant Impossible make-over was transformational. How they did this in less than 3 days is short of a miracle.
The reason to come to Angelo's is for the Woodstock Square, and now there is a beautiful restaurant to go along with it.
We were lucky enough to be in on the opening day. This show is amazing. The contractor, Tom Bury, is awesome. He talked to us for 20 minutes and explained all the challenges. We also got a chance to speak with the executive producer who also was a wonderful person.
Head up on the parking. It can be difficult to find a spot. Also, they now take credit cards.Helpful 19Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - J. G.Woodstock, IL027Jun 25, 2013
The restaurant definitely needed some sprucing up, and the makeover certainly helped the dining area. Only one row of booths left, and the metal chairs may be uncomfortable for some.
Menu really streamlined now, and my favorite Asian Chicken Wrap is no more :(
I can't believe the owners did not take it upon themselves to update the bathrooms!! They are still old, dingy, and just plain gross. Finish the job that Restaurant Impossible started.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Kristen F.Woodstock, IL20323Dec 6, 2008
Canned green beans. Seriously, canned green beans?!? And you couldn't even flavor them? You just opened the can, microwaved them and put them in a bowl.
Patrons need to concentrate on remembering scenes from groundhog's day just to keep their minds off of the gross food.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Cristie F.Roselle, IL394377302Aug 29, 2012
Let me be honest.
I hate diners. With a passion.
There's nothing worse than shitty dinner food. Canned veggies, processed meats, stale bread baskets, and over-salted soups. With that said, the only thing that drew me to Angelo's was the fact that Groundhog Day was filmed there. Ridiculous, I know.
However, for a diner, Angelo's actually isn't half bad. I'm not saying it's great, or that I'd drive up to Woodstock for it, but I've had way worse. The menu for both breakfast and lunch was overwhelming. In typical diner fashion, it was absolutely massive. Yet - I was still indecisive. After an internal debate between breakfast or lunch, I settled on a carver sandwich ((fresh roasted turkey breast and roast beef)) on a pretzel roll. ((I figured this was a safe option and the chances of my meat being pumped with hormones and antibiotics was slightly less since it wasn't processed. I'm nuts - I know)). The sandwich was awesome. It came with some melted Swiss cheese and a side of awesome honey mustard sauce. The rest of the group was fairly happy with their meals as well.
Service was mediocre. The woman who sat us had a major 'tude, but our waitress seemed friendly enough. She just couldn't remember things which was somewhat annoying. I had to remind her to bring water, ask for things I didn't get, on top of my order being slightly wrong. ((I was suppose to have cottage cheese instead of fries - no biggie)).
The restaurant was exactly as it was in Groundhog Day. Nothing has changed. So with that being said, it needs a serious updating. But I get it, they're trying to keep the look seen in the movie.
Overall. Solid 3 stars. Would I run back? No. But in a pinch, Angelo's serves up some decent grub - for a diner.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Alden H.Hoffman Estates, IL53013May 25, 2013
My family and I ate at Angelo's for the first time since the transformation. What a great experience. The interior is clean and modern. I love the rustic but modern feel to it. The food was amazing. I had the Greek burger (part lamb part beef). I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. A grilled pretzel bun had a nice crunchy texture in contrast with the juicy fresh burger. It was topped off with feta and a creamy tzatziki sauce. It was one of the best burgers I've ever had. My wife had a greek salad with a yogurt balsamic dressing that was delicious and the vegetables were all fresh and crispy.
The transformation was definitely a good change for the Resturant. I'll be back again.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mitchell C.Los Angeles, CA06Apr 17, 2013
I stopped while going east "Holy Cow" what a dump! dirty restrooms, table was not clean when I sat down and the food I didn't eat just drank my soda and left!

I went to Angelos today for dinner and had the Greek Burger and the Jalapenos as an appetizer. First of all, the Jalapenos were amazing. They are wrapped in bacon and stuffed with lamb. One of the best appetizers I have ever eaten. The burger was alright. I asked for it medium but it came well done. Still it was easily worth the $8.99 it cost. The decor is very nice. Nice job Restaurant Impossible.

Had brunch about 1 month after Restaurant Impossible.
From start to end, here is the experience.
The entry door is a typical glass door that leads to a small vestibule with a glass entry door on either side. Upon entering either you are greeted by nothing. No person to seat you or even a sign indicating to wait or seat yourself.
There looked to be 2 hostesses behind the new small service counter, but there was no effort to greet customers.
The new decor is better than what was there previously, but looks to be there to hide the flaws rather than make a statement about the establishment.
The new metal chairs look uncomfortable. As soon as they
lose the rubber feet on the legs they will tear up the vinyl flooring that has a wood plank pattern. Evidently there was not money to do the restrooms. They are still atrocious.
Our server was very poor. After imposing on her to take our orders she stomped off leaving the menus on the table and a ring from the coffee pot she had set there.
Service at other tables was similar even with the 2 hostesses, 3 wait staff, an multiple bus staff. One table walked out after 10 minutes of not being acknowledged.
I had ordered coffee, not bad by the way, and the waitress automatically would fill my cup on her infrequent visits. No once asking if I wanted more, which I did not. And she kept doing it after I said no thank you.
When the food came it was mediocre at best. Out daughter had a burger that was OK, but not much above fast food. My wife had a chicken wrap. A lot of tortilla and lettuce, but the chicken was hard to find. I had a blintz that was rubbery and hard to eat. Not sure how they pulled that off.
If you want the experience of seeing a place that you will see on TV, then stop in. If you want good food and service, then this is not the place.
Chef Irvine has had a number of successes on his show, but I doubt this will one of them.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jeanne L.San Francisco, CA236461483May 15, 2010
Average diner food. The sweet potato pancakes were good, not too sweet, and they came with a slice of ham. My friend got eggs benedict, which didn't come with any sides. So he ordered a side of toast, which.... was an extra $1.49 (whaat?!).
Come here to be close to the square that was featured in "Groundhog Day", since the actual restaurant that was featured in the movie will never be open. (I'm told there have been about 4 owners/restaurants that have been in that same spot since the movie was filmed, and all failed after about a year. It's a curse.)
Come on actual Groundhog Day, when the town actually does celebrate with its very own "Punxsutawney Phil".
P.S. No credit cards accepted. :(Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jeff W.Highland Park, IL02437Sep 28, 2007First to Review
