I'm sad that Amsterdam Falafelshop will be closing down in Davis Sq in a week. This place is a cool, no fuss place to stop by and get your snacks or meals...however hungry you feel like that day!
The salad bar that offers galore of unlimited/all you can stuff in a bowl/pita flavorful and colorful toppings + sauces makes this place a very cool place to eat casually anytime if the day...and even late into the night.
I love that the falafel tasted fresh and crunchy on the outside...but yet still soft on the inside...that...together with a selection of sauces and vegetables -pickled or not- make the whole meal super flavorful. My fav vegetables were the fried eggplants and beetss, and my favorite sauces were...garlic mayo and peanut sauce...heck...any of those sauces or even curry ketchup tasted so good with hot, crunchy sweet potato fries, too!
My only gripe was slightly limited seatings...esp if you come in during peak lunch or dinner time. If that's the case, it's a little hard to find a spot to eat..esp when you want to spend all your time sampling and trying all the sauces!!
P.S. kudos to the staff here. They were so polite and friendly. I hope they continue to have and are able to keep their jobs with the shop that will replace this place.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Kaela M.Medford, MA112Mar 22, 2019
I love this place. I've been going here for the past four years on and off and every time I returned was a memorable experience. I'm personally a fan of the falafel sandwiches and the toppings available allow customers to get creative each time they go if they wish, or find their favorite combination to pair with the falafel (or chicken) the latter of which I did. Each time I had good conversations with the staff who gave the shop a great personality; they along with the fantastic music choices and interior design added up for a chill spot for my friends and I to hang out and eat. And the French fries: amazing and always served hot. It honestly breaks my heart that this place is closing. I highly recommend stopping by before they officially close their doors.

I saw on my news feed that this restaurant is going to close. Never having been here the five years I've lived in the area, I decided to take my mom and try it out. The falafel sandwich I had with white pita bread was awesome. I put a little bit of garlic cream sauce (yummm) and tahini. The falafels were perfectly fried, no oil dripping down the sandwich at all. The sweet potato fries were bomb, especially with the curried ketchup. I'm sad to see this place go. I think most of the toppings are vegan, which I appreciate.

I've eatten here about a dozen times. The fallaffel is consistant, (crispy on the out side, moist on the inside) and the toppings plentiful and creative. The beets, curried cauliflower and hummus are my go tos. And I love that you can just cram as many toppings ontop of your fallaffe as you can. This is a great stop for vegans and vegetarians.

I went with a friend who had lived in DC, and been to the original. Was definitely in good hands with his recommendations. You have to go all out, with falafel sandwiches and a cone of fries, in the special carrying case- lol. The toppings, which you help yourself to, are amazing- love that they have pickled radish, raita, European pickles, deliciously cooked eggplant, and a varied chili pepper selection, in addition to the standard fare. The dipping sauces for the fries are also awesome! The curry ketchup is magical, and the peanut sauce and garlic sauce are also great. So good, with those perfectly crunchy fries.

+ Warm, crispy-fresh yet inside-tasty falafel. Also gluten-free!
+ Baba ganoush is great.
+ Plethora of topping and dressing options and ratios are great.
Things that could be improved:
- Occasionally a few of the toppings aren't as fresh (Particularly noticeable with tomato items. Also in contrast to the other outstanding stuff)!
- Hummus decent but not as good as the eggplant.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 3584541265Feb 25, 2019
Delicious falafel sandwiches or bowls! Recently tried the chicken and it was also really good! Small vs regular comes with 3 vs 5 falafels. I've gotten the small and I've always left full and so satisfied! There is a self serve toppings station with a plethora of options. The veggies are always fresh. My favorite toppings are the cucumbers, eggplant and beets. I always go way over the top and load it up and then slowly pick eat it like a salad. There are also lots of sauces to choose from but my favs are the garlic cream and tahini. This place is bomb and I am always looking forward to the next time I return.
Tip-crush your falafel balls so you can fit more toppings!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sanjaya L.Somerville, MA464Nov 28, 2018
Our cashier was extremely rude. His name is shawn. First time I came in he was extremely rude and treated like he didn't wanted me to be there. Food was really good, so next time I took 3 of my friends to try the food and he was extremely rude and felt annoyed due to our presence for 2 minutes that it took for him to gave us our sandwich and to make our fries. If you wanted to treated like shit, and feel uncomfortable this is the place to go. This is my first review on yelp, there are some good experiences some bad. But this is the worst.

Meh... loved the reviews and maybe the time to visit was not the day after Thanksgiving when perhaps there is less turnover... the falafel were no where near outstanding... partly because they were not freshly made and were lukewarm and partly because they were heavy and dense, not fluffy and flavorful.
Nothing beats the freshly made, piping hot falafel that Mamouns on MacDougal Street in Manhattan churns out.
The babaganoush was a standout leaving the underwhelming and under seasoned humus in the dust. Other toppings ? Eh... and the fries which were described as some of the best ever... really ? Absolutely not.. the 3 of us actually left a good portion of the order over. In my opinion, the peanut dipping sauce stole the show.
I am certainly glad that we gave Amsterdam Falafel a try and genuinely enjoyed walking around Davis Square.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Nov 21, 2018
MmmmMMm the fries are so good here! I usually get an order of the regular fries to share - 5 dollars an order. The garlic cream sauce is delicious. Healthy, no. Delicious, yes.
I also ordered a chicken pita the last time I visited. It was good but I think I'm more of a shawarma gal. The chicken was lightly breaded and the portion size was average. If the pita was slightly bigger for their larger order size that would be awesome! Unlimited toppings are nice but I didn't have a lot of room to stick them in!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
