I had a great time because I didn't have to cook & clean. I could just concentrate on the skiing! I can't wait to go back again next year. Alta Lodge has all the essentials and none of the bells and whistles that could clutter your ski vacation experience. The staff is super awesome. Thanks, everyone!
AMENITIES
Use the courtesy phone at top of the stairs to let them know you've arrived. Allow the porter to carry your luggage. You still have to get used to the altitude. Take it easy on your first day.
Store your skis and poles in the basement locker room. You'll find the combination in your room on a slip of paper. Boot and glove dryer in your room.
Free wi-fi. Free morning yoga classes. Free afternoon tea (plus juice & cookies). Occasional star watching events after dinner. Movies and other events in the TV lounge. Borrow a DVD to watch in your room, on your own laptop. (No TVs in the rooms.)
Don't trust the time on the alarm clock in your room. We kept setting it to the correct time, and it kept getting changed to 15~20 minutes ahead.
If you need a fluffy white robe, fill out the form on the desk in your room. You don't need to bring a towel from your room to the sauna / hot tubs - there are extra towels outside the locker rooms. The sauna is in the locker room itself.
General store and gift shop. Hours are posted.
The Cross Town Trolley runs until after dark but the rope tow up the last little hill to Alta Lodge closes at 5. Have the Alta Lodge number programmed into your cell phone. They are happy to pick you up and bring you back to the hotel. One day I was at the bootfitter (Alta Sports) 'til late and they came and got us. So nice!
YOUR ROOM
I was perfectly comfortable in our room, though there wasn't much floor space for our morning Pilates warmup. Yes, you can hear your neighbors partying in the next room but you're too tired from skiing to be kept awake by that. Snuggle into your soft bed and sleep hard!
Aveda products are in the bathroom, in case you forgot to pack your own shampoo. The little packets of salt are for the room humidifier. Use it every night!
LODGE RESTAURANT
If you have any special dietary needs, tell your server. The people in the kitchen can modify recipes to suit you.
Great breakfast buffet. You can also have eggs made to order.
For dinner, it's like being at Grandma's house - you can ask for smaller portions, or even have seconds if you wish. Every night there are three entrees (one red meat, one seafood, one vegetarian). Save room for dessert, because they have a lot of great choices, and the portions aren't enormous. I often had the mixed berry compote just by itself.
I notice a definite Asian fusion lilt to a lot of the recipes. Interesting.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Dec 5, 2023
We visited the Alta Lodge in August for a wedding and stayed there for several days. The Alta Lodge feels like a lodge experience from days of the past. There are no passenger elevators, so trekking up and down the stairs with luggage without being "climatized" to the altitude is a challenge. It should be noted the staff will assist you with your luggage if necessary.
Regarding the location, it is fantastic. The views are incredible; it literally looks like a post card. Although not skiing season, there are lifts (not in operation due to summer) everywhere. I imagine it gets pretty packed and crazy during the winter. Hiking opportunities are everywhere right outside the lodge. We went on a "novice" hike that took us to the top of a mountain like eight miles away. OMG.
As part of the wedding party and my officiant duties, there were multiple breakfast and dinners organized by Alta Lodge. The staff was fantastic, and the food was good. Alta Lodge also has a weekend brunch that attracts people from all over the area. The brunch was top notch!
Regarding the accommodations, we had a fireplace, balcony, and a view of the mountains. It was a great sight. Our room did a have a bad smell (as did other rooms in our group) that I believe is the result of months/years of moisture in the carpet, drapes, and wood. This is the only thing I did not care for. Only other issue is the front desk is not occupied 24/7, and anyone can walk off the street and into the hotel. I would recommend better security.
Overall, the customer service and quality of wedding organizer made up for the two issues noted above. Again, the service at Alta Lodge was excellent!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 0 - Rebekah D.UT, UT52510Mar 17, 2024
I ordered a sprite and it tastes like a Lucroy!!! And then I also tried the coke and it was not the right shade of brown. It tasted so bad and waters down. I think that they dump snow into their machines because the drinks are ass. Would not recommend their drinks. I have not tried their food yet.

We drove up to Alta for their Sunday brunch. It certainly is a beautiful spot. Alta is unspoiled, and dining while looking at that alpine view is a marvelous experience. The brunch is massive, and all the favorites are served. In addition, Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine can be individually ordered. The "all you can eat" buffet has an assortment of salads, egg dishes, a couple of pastas, breads etc. There is a dessert table as well. During your meal, an innocuous band plays music they call jazz. These musicians didn't go the Berklee School of Music, and their sound is more akin to an elevator than the Village Vanguard.
The music is an apt reflection of the food at Alta. There's a lot of items, but nothing is memorable. Nothing is horrible, but nothing is good. It's like eating elevator music, if you get what I mean.
Yet, I will return to Alta Lodge's brunch just for the experience. The drive is beautiful, and the view inspiring. With this kind of stimuli, the food is allowed to be an afterthought.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Andrew F.Hilton Head Island, SC0234Mar 14, 2021
The Alta Lodge is a great ski experience!!! Great food, facility, and best of all a very accommodating staff. While the lodge will take you back to the 70's, they have kept up necessary upgrades... My kudos go to Kaitlen, Jessica, and Anna for the awesome Yoga class... thank you so much... Their expertise, knowledge, and passion for Yoga was truly a great way to start each day...Can't wait to return

This a review on the Sunday brunch. Brunch at the lodge is awesome! First class service from the staff and a selection of high quality items either from the all you can eat menu or the entree section. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now and so glad I did. It's definitely worth the short drive up the canyon. I sat inside next to the windows and enjoy amazing views and soothing live jazz music. It's great to have things up and running again and the Alta Lodge doesn't disappoint!

I'd give it 6 stars if I could. Maybe I'd give it 10. Who knows. Stars don't matter at this point. The Lodge has a tradition that they are rightly proud of. That tradition is skiing, and the skiing in the Wasatch is outstanding. Add morning yoga, breakfast, second breakfast (not kidding), afternoon tea and cookies baked in house, sauna and hot tub, dinner with desserts also made in house, and last but not least the legendary Sitzmark club, and you have yourself one of the best vacations.

This is for an update of the brunch. Chef Raddon retired and the reigns were turned over to the new guy who's only been around 20 years. That said, while most things stay the same, some change. It's still a great deal, and they've done a fantastic job of shade on the deck compared to the old days. The layout and style is the same, but a couple things have changed. The magic dish for decades was the teriyaki chicken thighs. They were marinated for five days in a mild sauce that made the flavor concentrate all the way through the meat. Now it's gone. So is the giant bowl of chocolate mousse with whipped cream layers. The thighs were replaced with chipotle spiced boneless chicken thighs that were a little dry and not really showing the chipotle very much. There was a nice pot de creme instead of the mousse, but it's not the same thing.
So, I'll miss a couple of the classics. I'll hope for some form of signature items to replace them. It won't stop me from coming.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Sep 18, 2011Previous reviewOver the last 30 years, I've attended conferences here, eaten here, stayed here and regularly had Sunday Brunch here. Nobody does a better job of making you feel at home. The lodge is quite pricey in the Winter, but the brunch is a real deal. You get great service and the best view from the deck of any brunch in the State. By not having the prime rib and crab legs, they can focus on creating a medium sized brunch of all really good dishes. Chef Raddon changes about 2 dishes a year. Some things never change. Once he has it nailed, it never seems to change. That's a good thing. You know what you are going to get when you go back. Even without expensive proteins, I've never had anyone say anything but how good it was. The cook small waffles and single eggs benedict and florentine to order. It really is the best brunch around.

When you get off the slopes after a long day the one thing in your mind is food and trust me this place does not disappoint. First off the food wow, this stuff beats a 5 star restaurant, and B this place has the best/funniest employees I've had and that is a massive statement considering how much of a yelper I am with my 5 reviews. If your skiing Alta this place is a must go.
