100% a great gym. Ive lived all over the U.S. and been a gym rat for years and when i say i love everything about this place i mean it all. The culture, how chill but likeable everyone is, the lack of egos, equipment plus training variety, and everyone is there to work while learning. The owner is the type of person that many gyms would benefit from having around. If youre out this way pull up and enjoy a dope place that fits everyone.

Really great gym if you want to get strong and get rid of old injuries - highly recommend Alliance Physical Culture!!! I usually hate gyms but LOVE this place and know I will be coming here as long as we live in Austin. The building is brand new and built in the eco-green style; the gym has floor to ceiling glass windows so you can see the beautiful outdoors while you exercise.
Okay, now it is time to rave about the Obi-Wan of APC -- Gray is such a great guy and a very knowledgeable trainer, an incredibly generous person whose only goal is getting his clients strong and healthy (he puts his ego on the shelf to listen to you and figure out what works for your body). I have been injured for almost two decades and working with Gray has given me hope that I can get rid of the problems and the pain. At APC, you are constantly learning more about body bio-mechanics (years ago I worked in the field and have a M.S. in Exercise Physiology but my knowledge is out of date, Gray is a true devotee of exercise and physical-rehabilitation and knows all of the new studies and techniques).
Even though it has all of the needed machines and weights (free weights, kettlebells, power sled, lots of bands, etc...) this is not your typical gym, instead it is a cooperative space where everyone is working at their own pace on their own set of exercises. During the guided-class times Gray watches over us all and offers suggestions and postural corrections as needed. Otherwise people are working-out on their own. People are nice and there is a wide range of ages, sizes, and fitness-levels here (so everyone is welcome) - I am a middle-aged woman with a low level of fitness and I feel completely comfortable working out here.
Also, for those of you that are more hard-core, Gray knows all of the ways to kick-your-behind with his creative (and never-ending) list of exercises - so if you want a tough work-out, come talk to Gray!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emerson A.Salt Lake City, UT01Nov 4, 2016
Gray, and this gym, totally changed my life. I feel incredibly lucky to have found this place.
-The environment is extremely accepting - people from all walks of life are welcome, and everyone supports and helps each other.
-Gray is a gifted teacher of movement techniques. He has a uniquely effective way of explaining and teaching movements. After years of feeling unsure of myself, I'm now confident in my technique, and know how to keep improving on my own.
-Gray is extremely enthusiastic about his job, and that makes everything much more fun. He's always researching, and bringing in experts for specific skills (such as kettlebell sport).
After years of trying to find my way and engage with weight training, I truly found a home here. I don't exaggerate when I say that this gym is the thing I miss most about moving away from Austin. If you're in the area, don't squander the opportunity to check this place out!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Edison C.Austin, TX285337110Oct 16, 2015
Gray is one of the best. Why?
a) He really, really knows his stuff. He's been continually studying the hell out of weight training for many years. He always wants to know more and improve. He has a variety of certifications.
b) He really, really cares if you are doing your form correctly. So much so that he will sometimes video record you doing your movements, and then replay them for you, showing you what needs work.
c) He will work with you, in particular, if you have previously suffered a bodily injury. And not just your sort of joe average, "I think maybe a pulled a muscle" injury - I have seen him work with victims of stroke and car accidents.
d) He is a fine individual. I have been to over a hundred medical professionals in the last 10 years, and while Gray is not currently a medically licensed individual, he has the respect and professionalism that they all ought to strive for.
Now, if you are a person who needs a fancy giant gym with a sauna and a pool, Gray's place may not be the place for you right now. But if you want to work with somebody who will show you how weight training can benefit anyone, this is the guy to see.
In addition to weight training (utilizing barbells, free weights, kettlebells and some theraband, along with body weight), Gray also sometimes teaches small group classes that are circuit-like, which incorporate aerobic exercise. He is also an expert level grappler, if you are interested in that type of martial art, but that is not his primary teaching focus.
If I could give Gray 10 stars, I would. Overall, a super human being.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Dana B.Spokane, WA542Apr 20, 2018
I contacted Gray to work with my mom who is 70 and had taken a couple of falls and need to improve her strength and balance with a competent trainer that would provide a safe and positive environment for her. She signed up for training with him and has made such monumental improvements in her life with Gray's coaching. WHen I got to visit with her about 6 months after she started with him, I could immediately see that she was stronger, walking more upright and with improved strength, balance and confidence. She hated exercise her whole life but now calls me regularly to tell me about her workouts, the new things she has accomplished, and how she is looking forward to her next visit to the gym. I am so grateful to Gary for how much he has helped my mom. I have no doubt that he has added many productive years to her life.

I hate working out! Always have. But I love it when someone takes notice of any progress I've made. Fortunately I was blessed with good genes, but any other credit goes to Alliance Physical Culture. It's also good to learn how much my overall health can benefit from regular trips to this gym.

Gaining weight was my goal when I started training. But, I had an old injury that was stopping me for doing most exercises. For that reason, I was a little skeptical about training three times a week. Now, I've been training with Gray for a year without pain. He knows his job and is passionate about it. I gained almost 30 lbs of muscle with a very restricted diet. My body made a huge change. I'm getting stronger and healthier without risking injury.
The gym is place full of great energy and positive people.

I signed up for several sessions with Gray in order to gain a solid overall weight training base and also to work on nagging shoulder pain that had been bugging me. Gray's knowledge, continual research and ability to personalize training plans was huge for me. My shoulder has strengthened greatly with his help and I now have the technique and training base I need to have confidence that I can get consistently stronger without risking injury.

As a martial artist and boxer, strength training has never been my cup of tea until I met Gray. His approach is so scientific, passionate and motivating that I'm hooked. I have several injuries that he's been helping me deal with in a very realistic and practical way. He helps you improve your game whether that's day-to-day life or another sport. It's fun, efficient, affordable and results-oriented. Best kept secret in town.

I met Grey years ago when I was scheduled to go in for shoulder surgery. With his expertise, he was able to strength my shoulder with routine exercise so that I have avoided surgery for 7 plus years without any issues. On a side note he also got me into the best shape of my life!
