Food was meh. Generous with toppings and it wasn't greasy, but the crust was bland. Don't do the pasta, just don't, it's bland and boring.
The portion sizes are ok for the price. I love how they have free delivery, but other than that I probably won't do it again. I didn't hate it, but I didn't exactly like it a whole lot either. Do it if you're starving and don't want to pay $10 or whatever for delivery.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 22, 2018
I was stuck in traffic all morning, adding about an hour to my errands. My last errand was grocery shopping (Von's), and I was starving. Took a walk upstairs, and found a Togo's (no), a soup place (oh hell no) and Allen's NY Pizza. I took a look, and yep, they sell by the slice, and they have one hell of a lunch deal. Ordered a pepperoni and sausage slice along with a salad and Diet Pepsi. I received the salad and the drink immediately, and had a seat. Less than three minutes later, my pizza was handed to me.
So the salad was pretty basic, and served in too small of a container. It was good, though. The pizza was actually better than I expected - usually pizza by the slice places aren't that great....this one is.
Added benefit - they deliver, and have good prices on full pies. So definitely a thumbs up.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Bill- I'm sorry to hear you had a rough traffic day but I am thrilled that we were able to get you a tasty lunch special in the midst of it! Thanks so much for the feedback, we appreciate hearing from you and look forward to serving you again soon.

I'm really loathe to write 1 star reviews about anyones business, especially right now but if anyone involved in this business has been within 1000 miles of New York, I'm Mario Battali.
Completely flat crust that looks and tastes like it was pre made. Sad toppings with zero color on them and zero flavor IN them. 100% guarantee that the cheese was the cheapest, no name foodservice product they could buy. If I'm honest, the crap they serve "hot n ready" at 7-11 looks better than this ~$25 pie. I'd literally prefer dominoes and they're garbage. I couldn't be more disappointed.
The product is so bad they put it in a box straight out of witness protection...
Dismiss me if you want, bury the review but I've written a a LOT of very detailed reviews and VERY few negative ones, this one was noteworthy for all of the wrong reasons.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Aug 29, 2019
Not terrific, not bad. I'd say the per slice price costs too much (over $3 per).
I tried a slice of the barbecued chicken and the "meat" (pepperoni/sausage) pizza. They were both thin-crust style. There was nothing wrong with either slice but they just did not knock me out with their flavor. Both slices were also very greasy. I'm not opposed to grease but the grease on these babies could have filled a small Jacuzzi.
I've tried the pizza here before, and I'll probably try it again, but the flavor just isn't there, at least for me.
Very conveniently located next to Cinepolis, in case you don't want to pay the ridiculous food prices inside the theater.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Neal D.La Costa, Carlsbad, CA1152Aug 5, 2022
It's not like the old pizza place it once was. The pizza tasted nothing like it did before the old owners sold it.

No joke. Please read my last review. I just ordered again thinking perhaps last time was a fluke. No, it wasn't. Exact same thing. Ordered, and after waiting well over an hour, no pizza, they closed the place and they do not answer their phone. Two times in a row now. What the heck is going on with this restaurant? Going to have to get a refund from the bank, and we've eaten other food by now. No-one bothered to get back to me after the last time, so I assume they won't after this either. Totally bizarre.

I worked across the street from Allen's for 15 years. To say I ate there a lot is an understatement. We ordered 2 pies tonight and it WAS NOT THE SAME. Unfortunately we didn't read the reviews first. If you remember Allen's from back in the day, you will disappointed. If you like pizza, you will be disappointed. Spongy crust, flavor-less sauce.

When I was kid, we were broke. I fondly remember one summer when Del Taco ran a promotion all summer where you could get a big burrito and a drink for a $0.99. We ate there just about every day for months. My mother felt horrible about it, but when you're a 10 year old, you think you're eating like a king.
Anyway, one weekend while visiting my father, a new place called Chilly Williy's debuted and they printed coupons in the paper for an opening special; a large pizza for a dollar. It was the late 80's, the height of the Reagan recession, everyone was in desperate need of a bargain. So, when we got off the freeway, we found a mile long line of cars waiting, all going to Chilly Willy's. It took an hour and a half to get there and, when all was said and done, we had one of the worst pizzas I have ever had in my entire life. Smothered in disgusting, canned sauce, bland crust that was undercooked and cold, and just a sprinkle of cheese on top. Even my preteen palette, prone to eating anything and everything, knew it had experienced true horror.
Allen's New York Pizza isn't as bad as all that, but man, did it bring back those memories.
It's not so much nowadays, but eight years ago when the economy took a nosedive, I went back to those bargain eating ways and took a liking to many pizza shops having two slices and a drink combo for cheap. Today, even though all my friends and I are back to making good money, I still love and really respect many shops sticking to this kind of deal. So, when the time came around to have a few slices and a drink, the family found this new place on our radar and we stopped by.
They have a great combo scheme, allowing you to choose a few items off a small menu with soft drink on the side. With a group of us there, we opted for a full pizza. Altogether, we got an order of their Garlic Squares and a large that was half Pepperoni and half Sausage and Mushrooms.
The Garlic Squares consisted of a basic crust brushed in butter and sprinkled with herbs. The consistency was that of a sponge, smoked through with warm grease, and the taste had that off-putting afterburner of, what I can only compare it as, industrial cleanser. Sure, you get that initial salty burst of oil, but it was quickly followed by that tinge of anti-bacterial going to work on the tongue. On the side was a small tub of cold, gross marinara that we quickly realized was also on the pizza.
The pizza itself was served burning, lava hot. When you tried to grab a slice, about half of the toppings slid off like an air hockey puck and you it took three wincing pinch and drops to get the leftover glob from the box to your plate. That same acrid taste from the breading in the squares was here as well, but here it was coated in that sauce that only served to taste like pure, tangy tomato where you couldn't escape it like you could by leaving it in the tub.
And, admittedly I've only been to New York once, but the pizza we got here is nothing like the thin, huge slices I've had there or any other New York style place around town. No stretched out crust, crisped up with cooking that you can fold. No, here it was your standard West coast style crust.
So, in the end, not all that good. Normally I would say I have to come back and try other stuff off the menu. But, when most stuff shares either that crust or that sauce ... it's tough to see how anything else could make me smile.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Wende E.Carlsbad, San Diego, CA63306Sep 10, 2021Updated review
Update - ALERT - This place was sold to an Asian family who has run it into the ground! They are not courteous or polite, the pizza ingredients have changed and the pizza is just not good anymore!! They also do not honor the online prices or coupon prices and then they add unexplainable fees to the total. There's just no good reason to eat here anymore. Ever.

The pizza is always good with crispy crust and lots of cheese and the people who work there are always nice and courteous. - E.J. D.Oceanside, CA2731Dec 16, 2021
I've been going to Allen's for years and it was always great. I got a sub sandwich that was awful with generic sprinkles of yellow cheese instead of provolone as stated, and I could barely eat half. It had about 30 pieces of pepperoni, and not eatable. Then I got slices of bbq chicken and meat pizza. The bbq chicken had chicken that looked like potato, and tasted incredibly bland. The crust was tasteless and the sausage was just bland as well. Bad ingredients make bad food. This isn't a Covid thing, just new ownership putting out generic food.

I tried a slice and it was pretty good and fast! I will definitely be getting a whole pizza night time wish I had more! The two working were kind and I appreciated that thank you!
