    About the Business

At Alive & Kicking Lobsters, you'll find lobster tanks, iced beds with fish, drink coolers and picnic tables. But don't ask for a lobster roll here. You'll get an earful from the lively counter help about how lobster meat deserves better than a hot dog bun. • Q:

Will they pack up lobsters for me to carry on my flight home? Thanks!

      A:

Yes! They'll box it up and put it on ice. TSA opened my box to look at the ice, but then sealed it up with official TSA tape.

    • Q:

      How much should we tip?

      A:

I think it's mostly self serve and no table service, they just bring out the food to you as they do with takeouts. So, if you want to tip, I'd suggest 10-15% for "dining in" and $1-2 for takeout if you're feeling generous.

Great place. They give you tons of lobsters in the sandwich.

The only thing I would complain is that they put too much mayo but other than that, I'm very happy with this place. :)

I had Alive & Kicking Lobsters' lobster sandwich in 2018, and I still think about it because their lobster sandwich is the best I've ever had. The lobster is so sweet and flavorful, and the bread is perfectly toasted.

My brother and I debated whether or not to share or get individual sandwiches, and we made the right decision to get a sandwich each.

Absolutely amazing hole in the wall spot and definitely worth a visit if you're in Boston / Cambridge.

This "lobster roll" is very unique because it's actually a toasted sandwich, and the crispy bread makes a great contrast with the lobster salad. The salad is lightly dressed but very flavorful. On one hand, I love how simple and unpretentious this place is - tiny shop, picnic tables outside and the bread is literally wonderbread. On the other hand, using a better bread would take this to the next level.

My favorite thing was the clam chowder! Creamy but runny enough that it wasn't heavy. Great flavor and big pieces of clam in there. Not overcrowded with potato.

The crab salad sandwich is also better than the lobster sandwich. This one does come in a fancy brioche burger bun and the crab salad has green onions, which add so much flavor.

Fair prices and I would come back.

Mmm... arrived around 1:20pm on Friday afternoon with a handful of people already eating at the tables.

Bf told me they r known for their lobster sandwiches so tried that! Did not disappoint! $31+ for it but comes with plenty of lobster lightly seasoned, slightly buttery, crunchy toast (already cooled).

Traffic in the shop increased past 1:30pm. Order comes out in a jiffy! Maybe 10 mins max.

They also sell scallops, whole lobster, other seafood!

Would def recommend to check out.

Been coming here for years and their lobster sandwiches never disappoint!

This is the only place that I know around the area that serve the lobster meat in between two slices of bread rather than your typical hot dog/sub roll. I personally love this style because it helps accentuate the flavor and freshness of the lobster while giving you the crunch and butter from the thinly toasted white bread. They also give you a LOT of meat! I think each sandwich is packed with at least 6oz of lobster meat while a lot of the places give around 4oz.

The lobster sandwich on 7/21 was $32.

This is the 9th lobster roll that ive had his week and it made me very happy!

      Yummy lobster goodness! ($32)

As a kid, I was obsessed with the word "amazeballs." I would drop it into conversation any chance I can get. I can think of no more fitting word for Alive & Kicking than "amazeballs" and you should come here if you're in the Boston/Cambridge area. (Especially now that it's summer. Eating one of their sandwiches in the sun, along with an iced tea, is my idea of perfection.)

I've always been more of a crab gal so even though the lobster sandwich did look very intriguing, I'm glad I stuck with the crab sandwich. Tender, enormous chunks of super sweet crab flesh, no hint of fishiness. I had no trouble at all finishing this. Indeed, after eating it, I stared longingly at other people getting their orders and thought to myself, Dang, I can eat another one. I liked the lobster sandwich (don't call it a roll) but highly recommend the crab.

We also ordered the lobster bisque to try and it was good and creamy. I wish they served it with the oyster crackers instead of bread but that's a tiny nit. Next time, I'd get the crab sandwich and maybe a platter of the steamers.

They have four picnic tables set up out front, along with a canopied indoor seating section. Parking is a little tough - two or three narrow slots in front of the entrance. You're better off walking or taking the T.

Three sandwiches, two drinks, one soup, came out to about $104 for three people.

I should correct myself... lobster SANDWICH not roll! But still delicious!

The steamers were tasty as well.

They have a small parking lot available. And there are picnic tables outside as well as some indoor seating. Bathroom access is limited--there's a regular sink and port-a-potty.

PSA they stop selling cooked lobsters about 40 mins prior to closing, so don't wait till the last minute!

As a person educated in Cambridge, MA, working in NYC and living in New Jersey, I always have some nostalgia for my days in graduate school -including foods in New England. On my travel back to Boston after 20 years, I stop by Alive & Kicking Lobsters, located 2 min away from where I used to live.
A lady picking up a call (we asked if they would open on Monday before 7/4, and have a parking space) was very kind and well-answered all of our questions. We could park in front of a two-story single family house, which was converted to a counter with semi-outdoor and outdoor table area.

I tried a lobster sandwich, a New England Clam Chowder, Calamari Saldads, and a cream soda with the label of 'Alive & Kicking Lobsters' on it. The lobster itself was very fresh and paried well with a coleslaw sauce. However, I cannot say that the bread was as good as what I tried in NY and NJ (my standard for a lobster roll is 'Maine Roll' by Cousins Maine Lobster). $30+ for one sandwich seems a bit steep. 4+

The NE Clam Chowder was very good, reasonably priced and enough for two persons. 5+

The Calamari salads was also very fresh, nicely seasoned with oil and vinegar. I wish a fewer olives but more calamari. 4+

With a delivery truck and fishing equipment on the lot, I felt like I had indeed fresh sea foods caught and prepared by the owner. The breads could have been better I guess, which could have made 5 stars.

      Absolutely delish.

First time I came to Boston, my friends and I chose this place for lobster rolls and I couldn't forget the deliciousness of it. Fast forward 7 years later, I came back again but this time with my parents and not realizing it was the same place I've tried many years back. As we were driving in, I immediately recognized the small lot for 2-3 cars and felt nostalgic.

Their lobster rolls (actually called lobster sandwiches) are absolutely delish. The amount of lobster meat in the sandwich was so worth the price ($29.95) and so tasty. The toast of the sandwich was the perfect amount of crispy that complimented the abundance of lobster meat. Also came with a bag of chips.

We got the clam chowder which we tried dipping the lobster sandwich in and wow it was a nice yummy combination. We also got the special which included a steamed lobster and a couple of mussels that came with butter and some pickled dip (?) which were okay and didn't leave as a big impression as the lobster sandwiches did.

I will now forever remember the name of this place and continue to come back every time I visit Boston!

This no-frills seafood joint was within walking distance of my hotel. I didn't want to leave Boston without getting a lobster roll and this place had good reviews on Yelp so I checked them out. I am so glad I did! Initially I was a bit skeptical that the sandwich/bag of chips would be worth $31. I've tried many lobster rolls with some at swankier places, but this modest looking sandwich bested most of them! It's not much to look at but the flavor is where it counts. This sandwich has *a lot* of lobster- flavorful, tender and lightly dressed so you can really taste the lobster meat. The sandwich bread is toasted and lightly buttered which compliments the lobster well. It just works! I would come back the next time I'm in Boston to get this sandwich.
