Would give zero stars if I could. Front desk, highly incompetent. Told the office my husband is losing his benefits and needed to be seen, they said no problem, they take his insurance. They don't verify prior to appointment. They make sure people waste their time and get there and fill out pqper work and THEN they input insurance info. my 5 year old could do better than this team!

After fairly disrespectful treatment from the clerk, then having to sit in the middle of an office argument that led to a breakdown of progress, I was met with being given no help towards any progress then left poorer than I was when I entered.
There's better places in Glassboro. Don't spend your time on this one.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mildred L.Turnersville, Washington Township, NJ041Jan 7, 2022
I've been to Dr. Berger before with no problems but this last time, HORRIBLE! Two of the women there were very disrespectful showing no people skills, or signs of caring. I'll make a longer story shorter; for some reason Dr. Berger couldn't get my script right...I couldn't see clearly out of the glasses. He called me in for another exam, stated that he needed to change the strength in one eye. When I received the glasses my vison was still off. Although my insurance paid for the glasses (the cheapest ones there), I paid $100 more for transitional. I could see that I was never going to get the correct glasses, and since I could see better out of my old glasses, I requested that they just redo my old script with the same frame of my old glasses. I short, they never did that. Today, I have no glasses and they have refused to return my money. I am forced to seek legal action. They were horrible to me! Never, ever again! Service from this office has changed, for me anyway. I forgot to mention, although I paid in total for the glasses that I still don't have, they tried to get additional money from me w;hen I went back just a couple of weeks ago. Enter with caution, and please beware of the female office staff.

Hi Mildred, Thank you for taking the time to write regarding your experience with our office. We take pride in creating an atmosphere where every patient feels valued and their needs are met. We can see how frustrating it is to not be able find a frame and lenses that you feel will work for you. In reviewing your records we noticed that there were several attempts by our office to supply frames and lenses that suit your needs. In September we left three messages to let you know that the last frame you were interested in was on an indefinite backorder with no date when it would be available and asked that you return our call. We never heard from you. Nevertheless, your previous request asked us to remake the lenses with your old prescription in the second frame you chose so when you came in they would be waiting. These glasses have been in our dispensary waiting for you to pick them up since that time. I hear and understand that you are still not satisfied so please send a private message to me (to protect your privacy) or call me at 609-314-4343 so we can discuss and address your concerns. I look forward to hearing from you. ~ Alene, Administrator at 609-314-4343

Went in for glasses (that I've been wearing pretty much all my life) because I had previously lost the ones I got from somewhere else & being that they're the closest thing available I decided to give him a try. Staff was friendly, for the most part and when I went in for my exam (I was due for one) the doctor did a few, random tests & decided I didn't need glasses, gave me some reading glasses that I can't even use bc they're too strong and give me heaadaches. Long story short I'd rather travel and get a better prescription that I know i NEED than go back to him.

Hi Diane,
We're sorry you had a problem with your eyeglass prescription and wish you would have called us so we could have addressed your concerns immediately. Sometimes when a correction is slight it can be "too strong" as you describe or there could be a defect within the lens, which is not detectable to the naked eye. We would be happy to take a look at your glasses and make sure we are able to make them work for you. Our expert licensed optician, Wes Larose, is available to assist you on Monday, 10 am - 7 pm; Tuesday and Thursday 10 am - 5 pm; and Wednesday and Friday 10 am - 8 pm. If you have any questions or other feedback you can call me, I am the administrator, at 609-314-4343. We look forward to being able to solve your problem and address your concerns. ~Alene - Amy P.Swedesboro, NJ02Feb 1, 2019
Dr. William Berger has been my optometrist for about 30 years and, I am 39 years old now. He is extremely knowledgeable and a great doctor. I had moved away from the area and seen other optometrists who didn't diagnose my prescription to the accuracy of Dr. Berger. Now back in the area I am thankful to be able to see him again. He has been my daughters optometrist since she started wearing glasses/contacts and done wonders for her. She has a very thick prescription and also suffered from case of strabismus that needed to be surgically repaired. Dr. Berger over the last few years has done significant preventative measures to keep her eyes aligned and was praised by her surgeon for his line of treatment. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a caring, educated, optometrist.

*Rude staff and Doctor
*Used snotty tissues on counter
*Staff lies to get you in door
* Contacts ridiculously overpriced!
*Shabby office
*Long wait
This place is pretty shabby, with old looking equipment. The secretary lied to me about what was and wasn't covered under my insurance just so I would come in. I asked if contacts were covered and they told me yes. They didn't tell me there was a $65 fitting fee, which should have been brought up if you ask me.
When I brought this up-the doctor told me I was lying and that I should have called my insurance to verify what was covered. He pretty much acted like I was a moron.
William Berger(the optometrist) had blown his nose then put the used tissue with a few other used tissues on the counter by instruments and contacts.
He started to tell me the prices he charges for contacts which are nearly doubled where I buy them at (jcpenny) (he told me it was $90 for the 12 pack of contacts) ended up walking out, this place was dirty, and rude staff!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Rich,
In looking at the date of your visit it appears you were in during our renovations. As we are open six days a week to be available to all who need us the renovations are done working around our appointment schedule. We're sincerely sorry this made you uncomfortable. I also want to address your other concerns.
We are constantly adjusting eyeglasses by putting them in a heated bead bath, dip them in cold water and dry them with an extra soft tissue. When we're very busy the tissue is rarely left on the counter. I'm so glad you brought this to our attention because we see how this looks. We've made sure that all staff knows that these tissues need to be immediately placed in a trash receptacle. Thank you!
Contact lenses can be covered by insurance plans though a lot of them do not cover them as they are considered a luxury item (unless they are medically indicated). It is hard for a practice to know a patient's insurance plan as there are over 200 insurance plans and then multiple levels within a particular plan. We encourage all patients to check with their insurance company to understand what their plan covers and if there are any out-of-pocket charges so they are prepared. Our policy is to let the patient know the pricing for contacts AND fittings, just as there is an exam fee for glasses and a fee for the glasses themselves. The fitting fee includes the exam to find out what lenses are necessary for a patient's eyes, training so they know how to insert them and take them out, and a follow-up visit to make sure the lenses are working well for them, including fitting well on their eyes. We are sorry for the confusion and have made sure our staff reiterates the above information to the patient. Thank you for your feedback! - Alice K.Jackson, NJ573Oct 5, 2017
the above review is totally true and more i somehow scratched my cornea and tried to get in there it took me 3 weeks to get an appointment! I had tried everything i originally thought it was pink eye because it was the worst pain ever and because I have medicaid no one wants to take it and the only reason this man is still in business is because he does. I FINALLY get in there with no vision in my left freaking eye and he tells me that why didnt you come sooner you have a huge ulcer that needs to be treated right away. I said i tried but the optician said this was the earliest one available. he said i full of crap and if i said it was an emergency he would see me right away. needless to say i did um hello? screw you dont tell me i didnt plead for something in immense pain and 75% sudden vision loss in my left freaking eye! I literally had to rush myself to wills eye where at least there i got the proper care, and yes i had to pay for it and fight with UH to pay for a portion. but the other reviewer is right this office is old outdated and i didnt realize how much so until i got to wills eye the dr. berger and his optician are rude and double book appointments and treats you like a piece of cattle undeserving of and caring or respect and quite frankly hes always been that way for the 10 years ive been going there but only put up with it because he took my insurance. well guess what walmart and target take medicare now for optical and youd probably get better service there. i will never return.

Hi Alice,
I'm so sorry you had a difficult experience though we're a bit confused because you list your address as Jackson, NJ. We are wondering if you ended up reviewing our practice in error instead of a practice located in your area. We are in Glassboro, NJ, which is 64 miles from Jackson and it would take you over an hour to get to our practice. I tried to look up your file to call you although we have many patients with the name Alice whose last name starts with a K and do not have any record for an Alice K. whose address is in Jackson, NJ. However, I would like to address your concerns. Just so you know our policy is that all emergencies are taken the same day and if, for some reason, our appointment book is full my staff is told to book the patient anyway. Emergencies are taken immediately. I would be happy to speak to you further if you'd like and you can reach me at 609-314-4343. ~ Alene, Manager
