Not so sure about the bad reviews but this was my experience. I made a claim through my home insurance and Rick contacted me very quickly. He requested a little more info and pictures of the job so he could come prepared.
He arrived and snaked my most problematic drain faster than other plumbers. He then diagnosed and fixed an electrical problem the same day. If anyone has used home insurance it's a pain because the tech has to diagnose the issue, submit a claim to the insurance company, get it approved, then come back weeks later to fix it. Rick literally got on the phone, finessed immediate approval, then walked to the local hardware store, got the supplies, and finished the job the same day. To put it in perspective - I went through my home insurance and the furnace tech has left me 3 weeks without heat! In the middle of winter and an epic rain storm.
He was pleasant and even gave me advice on other things during his visit. I'll be reaching out to Rick again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - heuser s.Redwood City, CA02911Feb 20, 2023Updated review

although i have used him only once for a small job at my bernal heights home, for what it's worth to some, i believe that mr. rigle is a very capable good handyman to tackle small to medium sized jobs in most any sf bay area home. he is somewhat disorganized though which can be corrected of course & he offers good suggestions re: cost cutting measures for any future job(s) you may have. he does have various past licenses for this & that but has yet to renew them, which he should do w/the sf dept of bldg inspection in the future, at least i hope he does. he is also one of those rare handymen who will accept post-dated checks, but not too often, guess you should hire him on your payday or a day before weather/circumstance permitting. he seems to be the jack of all trades. if you want a pretty good reliable handyman to hire in sf for small to medium sized jobs, i would recommend him to most folks. he made a few great suggestions to me now & then to save a lot of money. he gives good advice on buying appliances, checking on websites for good inexpensive auto parts & etc. he's quite knowledgable on many home repair matters. that's my initial review of him. he may need to hire a reliable licensed assistant soon though.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Feb 17, 2022Previous reviewJust remember the old SF rule governing all SF Bay area Handyman services:
No handyman is allowed to charge more than $500.00 for any job at your home unless he or she has a specific license for additional specified work that must be in writing & verified w/the appropriate governing SF body. For ex: If additional work may be needed it should be: Electrical work; Plumbing work or perhaps installing hardwood flooring. Word to the wise to avoid problems when hiring a general handyman to handle small to medium sized tasks in your home. Mr. Riggle used to have specific licences, but no longer has them. Such licenses are quite expensive in the SF Bay Area. - Robert M.Beverly Hills, CA487Apr 26, 2020
Rick Rigle USED to own a small apartment complex but lost IT do to his addiction to Crack Coacaine...
Rick Rigle eventually found himself in A HOMELESS SHELTER named MSC South on the corner of 5th and Bryant in San Francisco.
Rick is a very DIS-Honest Contractor who rips off his own clients THAT is why he always ALWAYS needs to NEW CLIENTS to keep the $$$$ flowing.
Rick has beem SUED multiple times by clients for doing SUB-standard work and yes he will '' over-bid '' which is very ilegal abd UN-ethical. Over -Bidding is for example YOU have a house that needs 14 - 15 of sheetrock. Well, Rick will tell YOU he needs 20 - 22 pieces of Sheetrock and he will STEALthe other 5 - 7 pieces for one of his side-jobs...
Rick Rigle is NOT LICENSED,
NOT INSURED
NOT BONDED
RICK Rigle hires Homeless from the STREETS or HOMELESS shelters to help him on his projects. He never never ever pays employees what was mutually agreed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - joan m.San Mateo, CA1691May 26, 2020
I don't understand all the negativity regarding this business. I've been using Rick for 1 year now. I've always found him reliable, honest and hardworking. He works within my budget. Last job he done was put new flooring in my condo. Looks fab! Without his cheaper quote, I couldn't have replaced it. He's also willing to come do smaller jobs. Other handymen don't. I always recommend him to family and friends and will continue to use his services.

Updating my review after a threatening voicemail from Rick saying he is going to "fight fire with fire" after seeing my review. Wants a call before he "did something". He has "dirt" on other contractors and my "boyfriend" and can "track down all other people and put me up there".
Wow.
And this is after I just spent $270 to repair his brand new plumbing job.
Maybe my review wouldn't have been bad if he had focused more on doing a good job (instead of reporting personal gossip + making threats?). Or, I might have changed my mind if I had seen a later good job done by Rick. Or, if his work had lasted well. Or, if anyone not Rick himself had anything nice to say about him.
But - a threat
I would change this to less than 1 star if I could. And if this can help save another first time home buyer from half the stress then really, this was the best review I ever wrote.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 19, 2010Previous reviewI hired Rick Rigle to work on my house remodel drywall/texture + plumbing He bragged about being a veteran with "custom houses" and being an expert at every trade. And then hired random workers who were so unskilled sometimes they would ask me how to do the job. He was always late, lied about being in the house with "all" his workers when he was nowhere to be seen. He also took tools and materials out of the house and transporting it to other jobs, never returning them.
A simple drywall/texture job took 7 weeks When he finally declared done, the walls were wavy, there were holes big uncovered sections in the walls being hidden by sheetrock. And the texture job was so bad my painter would not even paint it. The inspector could not believe what he saw.
When I fired him he had accumulated about 10 cubic feet of scrap materials, merchandise from other jobs in the living room and out by the side of the house. After a week of not returning any calls or texts to get his things he came while I was gone he came & took all MY tools, power cords, materials leaving the house completely empty! Even little things like the brooms, tarps, gloves goggles were not spared.
I am writing this review as a warning today he's just done it again after we changed the locks he forced his way past the workers who told him not to come in. Even though all his trash was stacked outside of the house nicely and fully accessible to him Rick came in, rummaged through my things, again taking a brand new cord and the one power tool I had left. I'm going to have to file a police report!
I really wish I'd read Yelp and never hired this guy. What a nightmare!!
p.s. It cost $3000 to repair the bad job and the new contractor's quote for the whole job was $300 less than ricks. Don't believe him when he says he's bid too low and losing money. There are much better contractors who are honest and will do a good job!! - Rockie M.San Francisco, CA010May 26, 2020
I need a fence built in my backyard. Not only did Rick do a beautiful job he got my insurance company to pay for most of it. He took the time to do the paperwork and speak with the insurance agent he was great! I recommend him highly for any handyman endeavor

Did an awesome work laying out our floor. We couldn't move all of our furniture out of the way, Rick and his assistant did a great job carefully moving them around the area they worked on. Most impressive was that they made sure to put the furniture back in place after they pull the carpet so that we were comfortable and moved them around again the next day when they installed the floor. Good value for great work. I would give them a 5-star rating, but the job took an additional day to complete. Otherwise, we highly recommend Rick.

I HIRED "RICK RIGLE" TO POUR SOME CEMENT IN FRONT OF MY DRIVEWAY. (small job) He was late to the job, I had to provide tools and materials to his workers, he had to go and get materials, did not level cement to correct contours, and then within one month the cement cracked! Then i called him out to see the crack and after some time he came out and said he would check into materials to repair crack and never replied to my calls or emails and I never received a receipt for the job after several requests. Talks a big talk- but does not walk the walk!
I ended up repairing the Crack myself. I had more work to be done but after this experience I would not use him again.
