About the Business
Tortilla Flats first opened its doors in 1978 and has remained successful to this day. The owners have been in the restaurant business for more than three decades. The staff has worked hard to create a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, offering a full service cocktail bar (including the practically famous and most delicious Margaritas in town), and of course great food. \n In addition, Tortilla Flats offers a private room for small parties and banquets of up to thirty people. It\u0019s an exciting and fun place for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, wedding showers, and holding business meetings. \n\nOur customers can depend on fast service at a great price here at Tortilla Flats. \n\nSit back and enjoy the best Mexican food in town.

Americanized Mexican Food. Bland At Times. IMPECCABLE Service.
I've been coming here occasionally for about eight years. The food is never GREAT, but sometimes it comes close. Sadly, sometimes it's just not good, though. Food wise, this is a THREE STAR location. All that being said, the service here sets the place apart and warrants my return business.
Chips served on arrival are top tier. Hot, thick and crunchy. The salsa...not so much. The salsa is a lot like a fancied version of La Victoria or Pace Picante; very canned tomato heavy, little to no fresh add in components shining through (cilantro, onions, jalapeños, etc).
The main courses are NOT traditional Mexican. Stealing their name from a John Steinbeck novel is probably a good give-away to the fact this isn't 'authentic' Mexican food. As stated above, though, it can be very good at times. The rice is NOT vegan, but the beans are.
The service here is, quite simply, second to none in Redding. The older waitresses are always on point, and the assistants that handle the chip and drink refills are literally ALWAYS checking on you. This is a solid FIVE STAR place in terms of service.
Food is forgettable here a lot of the time; know that coming in. The service is amazing, though, and definitely bumps this up to a four star review.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Katie M.Redding, CA021Jun 13, 2023
First time and last time trying Tortilla Flats. We are still trying different Mexican restaurants in Redding, having moved here in the last couple of years, and unfortunately, this ranks the lowest. Service was nice and prompt, but the food was really low quality. Everything tasted canned or made from a packet. We ordered chicken enchiladas with green chiles, beef tacos, and a chile relleno. The enchilada gravy was bizarre- more like pot roast gravy than typical Mexican food. The meat was low quality. The rice was both under and overcooked. The salsa was little more than canned tomatoes, onion, and pickled jalapeno juice. It was also the most expensive Mexican restaurant that we have tried- $17 for two enchiladas would be okay if they were made with fresh ingredients- but not for boxed rice and canned chicken.

Love the atmosphere and food is tasty based on living in San Jose for 5 years I'd say there hitting the mark. The bar tender is awesome at making speciality cocktails drinks and actually has a personality unlike other places in Redding. This place is truly under rated and secret local spot. One last thing ask for the meatball soup!

The food is nothing special, usual bland mexam offerings. Service is the problem. You're going to be waiting a long time for them to get interested enough to notice what's going on and how long you've been waiting etc. Very few ppl there both ti.es, so not bcs they are busy. Be prepared to go looking for wait staff to remember you and follow up with an order after water/drinks. Been here a couple times now and the same issue. Place has a vibe that it's going downhill, might not be around much longer. The questionable food doesn't justify the long wait and poor service.

Margaritas were ok tasted as though they were pre mixed from a bottle. The meal was so unsatisfying nothing fresh in this establishment save the limes and green onions and they are used very sparring.
The salsa consisted of canned crushed tomatoes, no onion, no celantro, no green peepers, I asked for a salsa with some spicy they brought out chopped green jalapeños from a can. I ordered chili relleno alacart again canned pepper american cheese smothered in tomatoe gravy. Such a dissapointment. Oh I forgot to say the wait staff were this establishments only saving grace.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laurel W.Antelope, CA274Dec 30, 2021
Fabulous service and friendly atmosphere. The food was great! I had the taquitos and they were fabulous. The cheese cake was the best I've ever had! They also have a bar and an area for group parties. I'll definitely be back!

This was easily the worst "Mexican" foood I've ever had in my entire life. I got the street tacos, my girlfriend got a quesadilla with chicken. Simple enough, we thought. They can't mess that up, right? Wrong. Meat was dry and flavorless, and the tacos had been thrown into a container that was way bigger than them, so when I opened it up, there was just meat and tortilla thrown around everywhere. Which. Fine, not a big deal to put back together if it tasted like a taco, but it didn't. It tasted like what I imagine the bottom of a shoe tastes like after walking 10 miles on hot concrete. Well, what about the salsa? Couldn't that have helped add some flavor, some moisture? The salsa made me GAG! Green salsa was sweet for some reason, kind of tasted like pineapple? Absolutely no spice or flavor. The red salsa was just straight canned tomato with cilantro. Can't believe we wasted $20 here.
