"For everything that San Diego does right -- which is a lengthy list -- it can't quite compete with the delis of New York that serve sandwiches loaded with corned beef or pastrami, bagels and matzah ball soup. But if Bas Emini, owner of Carnivore Sandwich, has his way, that's about to change with a West Coast take on an East Coast classic."

Q:
Do you cater business lunches?
A:
Yes!!! We can do assorted sandwiches or custom orders. I recommend emailing me at carnivorebstreet@gmail.com or calling the deli to let me know what you are looking for.

With so many great food spots in SD, this place makes some of the best monster sandos. Small spot in downtown, so most people do take out, but they probably don't want to go anywhere after eating one of these sandos. The service is nice and friendly, and they seem to know their regulars, which is cool. They have a large menu with a lot of options. They do breakfast and lunch, but if they were open late, they would probably be a hit as well.
The breakfast burritos are packed with meats and flavors. The hangover has a whole breakfast in it. Bacon, ham, sausage, hashbrowns, eggs, cheddar, and salsa make this live up as a cure to its name. They have these and a bunch of other options in a breakfast sandwich as well, but I go burrito every time.
The lunch sandos are what I'm here for, and they pile it up for you. The boss is a corned beef, pastrami, and Swiss on rye and is exactly as expected. This hefty sando is my favorite and might make your day. The Italian is a classic everywhere, and this one is a solid choice. The other choices are also top notch, and all have a mixture of 2 or 3 meats and cheeses, so you can't go wrong. They have a great drink selection, and the salads and burger seem popular as well, so this place definitely hits on all levels. Definitely will be back next time I'm close by.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Disgusting ! Chicken salad sandwich is gross. It looks like cat food. I would not feed this to my dogs . I bet it's canned chicken. It's definately not cooked chicken . Challah bread was dry and crusted like it has been sitting out for days.potatoe salad tastes like a garlic bomb ...I spit it out onto my sandwich.
Go somewhere else ! What a waste of 35 dollars . Never ever again!

I am so sorry you had a bad experience. We absolutely do not use canned chicken and take pride in making our chicken salad fresh. We’d love to have you come back and personally ask for Cameron to make it fresh for you again and give us another try on us. Thank you and sorry for your bad experience!

Being born and raised in NY, this is the closest I've had to the bagels I miss everyday at home. It's hard finding an authentic breakfast/luncheonette & this one deserves ALLLL the hype.
I told Cameron, the owner, he needs to get a tip jar if he's running a place this top tier :)
Can't wait to be back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

This place makes a good sandwich.
After a morning on the San Diego Bay, the family went walking around downtown in search of a satisfying lunch. With a mother-in-law with a hankering for a Club and a wife who loves a good Philly Cheese, Carnivore popped up on our radar and we braved the warm sun to make it here for a bite.
As noted, I split a Philly Cheese Steak with the woman I love. The taste was very good, though it felt like it was essentially processed hamburger, pressed into solid steak-like strips, stored until needed, and then heated up and served on a roll. Despite this, the veggies were grilled down to a soft sweetness, the flavors were on point and blended well under that gooey cheese, and my wife admitted this was one of the best Philly Cheese Steaks she had had down here in Southern California.
Our son opted for the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. It was beautifully put together and a quick sear on the tortilla helped it stay in one piece well under intensive eating by a 10 year old. He enjoyed the blending of flavors, even eating the softened onions, and finished off everything save for the final two bites.
The daughter unit selected the Chicken Strips and Fries. Though, she only ate the fries themselves, the chicken was still a good size and fried well giving it that chewy exterior that I prefer. As for the fries, they were pretty perfect and there was enough from her plate, plus another side of them, to satisfy everyone at the table.
My mother in law had The Country Club, choosing it off the menu hours before and anxiously awaiting it all morning. It was huge, four tall cuts layered across her plate with pickle slices on top. She was only able to finish half of it, but stated that she enjoyed it quite a bit.
In the end, a pretty good lunch. Not the best sandwiches I've ever had, but worth coming back to if we're ever in the neighborhood. While there's not much that makes them really stand out in the crowded field of shops filled with Milton's, Ike's, and Hungry Bear, Carnivore Sandwich is still a few steps above and beyond a basic deli and worth a try.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 1Business owner information

Small shop with seating inside (a couple) and outside. Our order was taken and when ready we picked up our food at the counter. The food was amazing! The sandwiches were packed with meat. One of the best sandwiches I've had, couldn't have been better! The onion rings were real good too. Definitely recommend this place.

Great choice to pick up some sandwiches for the train ride. Piles of meat. Friendly services. It wasn't "fast" because they carved the meat there. Had a pile of pastrami, so good.

Nice enough people but one of the worst breakfast burritos I've had. Ingredients tasted cheap, hash browns were bone dry... I had trouble chewing through the thing. Walked over in the rain to try it and left super disappointed.

Great food, friendly staff. They can make whatever you want, you don't have to order pre arranged stuff.
