We just got married here and it was quick and easy but please note THEY DO NOT TAKE CARDS AT ALL, CASH ONLY!! This is not stated on the website and while we were standing in line for over an hour at the entrance there ARE NO signs to let you know before you get to the window, at which point she tells you, without looking at you once, to go to the ATM upstairs. Thankfully, someone let us step back in to pay so we didn't have to go to the back of the long line. It turned out they did not have cash either, many others said the same, so we paid for them to say thank you.
The judge was sweet, the room was sparse and mostly empty but clean and the ceremony took about 45 seconds. I applaud the efficiency but they need to join this century and take cards or let people know on the website and outside the office about needing cash. A receptionist with a friendly personality would be nice, too. Still, the happy attendees around and the sweet judge made it a great vibe overall and if you want a low maintenance, easy way to get hitched this is it. You need to buy the license at least 24 hours prior at the Daley Center across the street first, which is $60. They DO take cards. Just bring valid current photo IDs and you get the license immediately. At City Hall the wedding ceremony fee is ten bucks, again cash only.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Patrycja E Z.Chicago, IL541104567Jul 10, 2016First to Review
If you are looking to get married in Chicago City Hall, here are few things you should know about that process.
First, you need a marriage licenes at the City Clerk's Office. Go to Daley Center for that. It is somewhere in the basement. You need to do that 24 hours before the big day and it is valid for 60 days.
Then you go to 118 N. Clark St. The place you looking for is in the basement also. It is kind of hard to find it, cause it is in a padway. Wonder why.......
No appoitments accepted. You need to get in a line.
There is few rooms where the ceremony will be perform. The ceremony takes usually few more minutes and it is host by city judge. Some of them are really really nice and cool :_) Some of them just doing there job I guess :_(Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Amberly R.Oak Lawn, IL20103Dec 16, 2020
Super sweet staff who really care, if you're first in line in the morning it's quick and easy in and out! They'll answer any questions you have! Only complaint is the security guards that check you when you walk in where extremely rude! I get that they have hundreds of people come in and out daily but for some people it's the happiest day of their lives and it really kills the mood to have two rude grown men be the first people you met when you I walk in the building! I really wish I would have caught their names because they were so extremely rude raising their voices at us telling us to "HURRY UP" we had a couple behind us that only spoke Spanish and my fiancé was having to translate for them, the security guard was just getting frustrated with them that they couldn't understand what he was saying. Other than that great experience!

Got married here and it was the best! They usually open at 9 am and have a 2-hour break in the middle of the day. Walk-in only, no appointments, so try to get here early especially if you come on a Saturday. The entire building is beautiful and our judge was super nice.
