Delicious ethiopian food! Very affordable and generous portions
I've gone here several times and it was great!
Enjoy how it's open late into the night for a nice dinnerHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 24, 2024
Tiny but this is a gem. The food was flavorful, delicious and not overly greasy. It is served up with fresh injera. It is a casual, friendly atmosphere that almost had the feel of a family gathering for a meal.
The three of us ordered the Taste of Habisha combo with Key Wot (spicy beef stew), Alicha Wot (mild lamb stew), Menchet Abesh (ground beef in spicy sauce), and Tripa (beef tongue and tripe in sauce). They added carrots and cabbage to everyone's meal. I think that was my favorite though we enjoyed it all for dinner, late night snack, and lunch the next day. The food was not overly greasy and had great flavors! They were busy and do a lot of Carryout. They also have a tiny market space where you can get breads and staples.
They are definitely worth the drive and parking challenge and are going on my list of places to return to!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Quang T.Loma Linda, CA03020Apr 25, 2024
Found this place on Yelp, and the reviews are accurate. This is our first time having Ethiopian food, and it was amazing. We got the Taste of Habesha 45, and the Awaze Tibs. The sambusas were okay. DEFINITELY enough for about four people. Awesome place.

DC is blessed with so many great Ethiopian restaurants and Habesha is definitely one of the best and perhaps most affordable as well. The place is kind of hole-in-the-wall with a small market section and a few tables in the front and back. We got a regular vegetarian platter with 4 dishes, door wat, and two sambusas, altogether less than $30. The staff was very friendly and food came out almost instantly, almost shockingly fast given how hot and fresh they were. We enjoyed every dish, especially the spicy lentils and yellow peas. The door wat was simply divine - two large pieces of bone-in chicken served in a very flavorful berbere sauce, almost overflowing from the plate. Not to mention the experience of ripping apart the injera bread and trying every dish with a good friend. We had such a fulfilling dinner and had plenty of leftovers for another meal.

Food was absolutely delicious. We got the Taste of Habesha #2 and the Awaze Tibs. It was a ton of food for only $55ish and we've got enough for leftovers for days. Service was fast and everything came out really quickly.

My Ethiopian friend recommended Habesha as it is the best Ethiopian restaurant in DC. This was my first time trying Ethiopian food, and their dishes were just phenomenal! My friends and I ordered a large plate with different assortments, and it was such a fun experience picking out the food and catching up on life. I will certainly come back as the service was great, and the atmosphere was so chill with Ethiopian music playing in the background.

Absolutely incredible!! With its outstanding food, generous portions, and speedy service, it's impossible not to fall in love with this no-frills, hole-in-the-wall gem of a restaurant. I ordered two of their veggie combos to go: the special (which comes with six delicious items), and the deluxe (which comes with ten). I was genuinely shocked when the staff came out with one of those aluminum roasting pans usually used for catering for the deluxe combo! The portions are definitely beyond generous -- that was enough food to feed a whole family of four, and it was only about $20!
There's a lot of overlap between the two veggie combos, but one thing is clear from both of these orders: despite the impressive speed of its service, Habesha definitely isn't cutting any corners on the quality of their food. Every item was executed to perfection; each of the various warm chickpea, lentil, and veggie dishes were packed with all the classic, comforting flavors and spices that make Ethiopian food so amazing. The salads were fresh and exactly what I needed to break apart the richness of the cooked dishes. And the injera was, of course, the foundation of the meal. They have imported teff injera, so you can easily make your meal gluten-free for a small added fee (or, honestly, even if you aren't gluten-free, I still recommend trying it out).
From the quality of the food to the friendliness and efficiency of their service, Habesha is hands down one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the District. To seal the deal even more, they're also open until ridiculously late -- so the next time you get the late-night cravings, why not give Habesha a try?Helpful 2Thanks 3Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 20, 2022
First time trying Ethiopian Food! 5/5 experience will def come again:)
After a concert ended around midnight was craving some Ethiopian food for some reason! So glad I did cuz then i found this gem still opened.
After you pay, you get a little buzzer. Once it buzzes, you go to the food section where someone will have your injera ready and you tell them which sides you want on top of it.
Got the Beef platter: injera and four meat sides (18 ish dollars) MASSIVE serving sizes, split it with a friend and still had extras.
Great way to sample many different Ethiopian dishes. Injera taste reminds me of a sourdough baguette but soft like a crepe (description for people tht never had injera). The meat dishes reminded me a bit of Indian cuisine, very tasty!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 5805761723Aug 17, 2022
Delicious but my takeout order was missing items. Detailed breakdown below:
**Service, 2/5** Staff was friendly but my nearly $100 takeout order was missing an item (samosas).
**Price & portion, 5/5** Portions are huge and easily enough for 2 meals. The platters are also a great deal and nice for trying lots of new things.
**Presentation of the food, 5/5** Colorful, and still really nice despite carrying everything over an hour away! Unwrapping the Ethiopian bread is really satisfying too.
**Taste of the food, 5/5** The ground beef, chicken, and lamb stews were all delicious! Packed full of flavor but not too spicy and perfect to soak up with the bread. It was my first time trying Ethiopian food and I honestly loved everything!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1
