I am a woman of convenience. Not in location, mind you, because I drive 1 1/2 hours to visit Rapunzel's. But I am the type of gal who will spend a pretty penny to ensure things are done the way I want them to be done as opposed to doing them myself. Okay...I'm lazy. Yep, that's it, the word is lazy.

I likely could figure out how to trim my hair myself. There have to be thousands of YouTube tutorials out there. However, in the words of Donna Meagle and Tom Haverford, "treat yo self!". There are a couple things that I would prefer a professional to take care of, and hair treatment and styling is one of them. I noted to a colleague at my old job that I've had trouble finding stylists that specialize in long hair, and she recommended I take a visit to Columbus.

That was 5 years ago. I've not gone anywhere since. I remember having my consultation vaguely, only because I thought they were trying to feed me a bunch of BS regarding the caretaking and maintenance of my hair. I was wrong. Everything they've ever told me about my hair, from switching hair ties and brushes to using castor oil on my roots have been spot on. I started off only visiting for 45 minute "dustings" (trims), and worked my way to bi-annual 6 hour treatments that leave my hair feeling silky and smooth. (Do I sound like a shampoo commercial yet?) I'm even starting to do keratin treatments with them, which I haven't done in over 10 years because of long-term concerns. However, I trust Jamie & Dave to take excellent care of my hair.

I've been told I'm a tad high-maintenance, but when it comes to locks like mine (33 inches last time it was measured!), I can't trust just anyone to take care of it. It may be a drive, and I'll readily admit I'm lazy, but there's no other salon I'd let touch my hair but Rapunzel's.

I came here after high recommendations from a family member who has gone here for 18 years. My hair is not super long, but I do want to grow it longer. My past hair dresser kept cutting off more than I wanted, reversing any growth progress I made between visits.

They specialize in long hair and anyone trying to grow their hair. You don't have to have hair down to the floor or even be going for that. But long locks need gentle care and can be challenging to color. So this is the place to go for your lovely, long locks.

Dave's technique is unique, taught by George Michael's salon. He basically just trims the split ends than does a "dusting" to take off minimal length. This was exactly what I needed. It keeps my hair healthy, but allows it to keep growing.

I went in with wavy, one day dirty hair. Dave did not need to wash and dry it. He trims dry hair, not wet. If you want, he can wash and dry it. But to save time and money, I just went it there with my hair ready to go.

The whole process took about 2 hours. However He kindly spent about 30 minutes teaching me how to use hair sticks and hair pins. These are great alternative hair tools to elastics that damage and break hair.

I highly recommend giving Rapunzel's a shot. Dave did a great job with my hair. I walked out knowing that I'd lost only minimal length while making my hair healthier.

The long-hair paradox: How will I ever grow my hair out if I have to keep cutting it?

The solution: Don't cut it, dust it!

It'd been a long time since I got a haircut that I'd catch myself admiring weeks after leaving the hands of a stylist. Ever since my one and only visit to Rapunzel's thusfar, I've been all, "Hey babay" in the mirror admiring my own locks. Surprising, too, since a "dusting" is actually only trimming about 1/4 inch of hair off so there wasn't all that much gone.

Even though they're only snipping a minimal amount of hair, dustings still take about an hour because they twist your hair strand by strand on a seek-and-destroy for damaged ends. For my first time there, they asked me to come in a half hour early to have a consultation about my hair care, how long I'm trying to grow my hair out to be, and a few things I should consider to help better my mane. Did you know that see-through shampoos act more like stripping agents and can be very harmful to color-treated hair? Or that you should brush your hair as soon as you wake up to stimulate the follicles, even before you get in the shower? I feel like I'm bursting with trivia now.... They also measured my hair so we can track how quickly it grows, which I thought was cool. (I have over 2 feet of hair now! when the heck did that happen??)

You might never have noticed this place before, but Rapunzel's has been on South High helping ladies care for their long locks since 1994. They've developed an entire philosophy around what it takes to properly manicure hair to best achieve growth, and are very good at what they do. Ladies of Columbus: I never want to hear you crying over a stylist who "accidentally" trimmed 3 inches off instead of 1 ever again. Now you know better.

I'm sorry, but this place was an absolute joke!

I called and set up a consultation, because at the time I had hair down to my butt, and my hair was also pretty healthy at the time, so didn't need special oil treatments, or anything.

The place is small and nestled in between two buildings just north of German village, and slighty beneath the official "downtown" Columbus mark. The inside was nice, and what you would expect for a salon.

I went in the consultation and wanted to talk about the possibility of a dye job on my super long hair. I had no intentions of trimming my hair, or for hair treatments, or expensive shampooing. I had no idea the salon was a place for people who wanted to grow their hair down to the floor.

My experience was uncomfortable, and it was a consultation, so why the hell did the hair dresser take me back to a chair and start prepping me for a "trim" and when they mean "trim" it consists of twisting the hair around until small dead hairs pop out, and that's what they "trim", and THEN, they wanted to charge me $60 for their innovative and groundbreaking "trim" methods, and I cut that quickly, because at the time I was a poor college student, and was not ready to pay half my paycheck on a shitty trim for my abnormally long hair.

The whole vibe of this place felt just... meh to me, like some place where they attract yuppies turned semi-hippie. People, if you really want Amish length hair, then do some research.

Thank-God, I have shorter hair now.

      This place is no joke!

I have hair down to about the middle of my back and I had scheduled myself an appointment for their famous dusting and a color. A friend from work with long hair also had referred this place to me.

Today was my appointment and I felt I had to instantly review this place and tell all of my fellow yelpers how much I loved it! Their hospitality was out of this world. The guy doing the cutting (and the owner I'm assuming) was honest and told me he thought a color job wasn't a good idea because my color was already too beautiful (giving me such a big head :p) and that he recommended a treatment instead. So I agreed and we went on with the dusting first.

He was very knowledgable in giving me great tips and facts about keeping my hair looking and feeling great. The other two people working there were super friendly as well. After the dusting and trim, I got my treatment. This whole process is very time consuming (for reference, I was there from 2 to about 730ish) but its well worth it. When they took my rollers off, I couldn't believe how shiny and soft my hair was! Absolutely amazing. They were right, I didn't need a color job, just some good 'ol fashioned TLC and I'm happy this is the place I decided to go to.

If you have long hair, or you want to grow yours long, give them a call. New clients get a free consultation and they give great advice on what your hair is in need of.

All in all, I have nothing bad to say about this place. I definitely intend to go back!

So many tries, so many fails. Thank goodness we discovered Rapunzels just in time for senior prom. My daughter has long thick hair and we've tried other hair salons for up-dos. Her hair would either fall before the dance or the hair stylist would say she just couldn't do it.
This time my daughter got the updo she wanted and it stayed even with the wind blowing through pictures. The hair made the dress!!
Their hospitality was so great. We scheduled the day of the Cap City marathon. We were late, but they were gracious. We had to walk because of race traffic and they even drove us back to our car. They went well beyond offering a hair style. They certainly don't rush you through, and they treat you like family.
Mt daughter plans on returning for every one of her hair needs!! This is an awesome place!

I have had long hair my entire life and it has never grown as fast as it has in the past 6 months and I credit it to Rapunzel's. They teach you how to properly shampoo and take care of your hair and scalp. They give you a dry haircut which they call a "dusting" because they literally only cut off split ends and length at a minimum. The salon itself is definitely a hippie vibe. A husband and wife own it and the husband is the one who cuts your hair--and now I won't let anyone else touch it but him! They welcomed me with open arms when I came to the small salon only 6 months ago and I'll never go anywhere else. Again, it's a small family vibe, definitely not for you if you're looking for a traditional, contemporary spa experience. This is about hair and taking your time and it's a detailed, lengthy process. All in good time!

If you have long hair or are thinking of growing it Rapunzel's is the place for you. They specialize in down to the floor, heavy on the head, mane like hair. At Rapunzel's they are serious about long hair and if you are going with a friend you need to know it will take a seriously long time till your friend is done. Bring a book, or two. The salon itself is very pretty in an airy, fairy tale way. Its called Rapunzel's for a reason. Maybe because I have always sported locks never lower than shoulder length I felt a distinctive hippie vibe. Never a bad thing. The hair cut process, while lengthy is pretty cool. I watched in fascination as the stylist twisted tiny strands of my friends hair and trimmed delicately the hairs coming out of the twist ONE by ONE. Gotta love the details. Another cool thing about Rapunzel's is they never pressure you to update your do. They cut my friends hair exactly as short as she wanted and in a way that continued to keep it growing. The stylist spent about fifteen minutes getting to know my friend and discussing her hair care needs now and for the future. It was like an interview for her scalp. This is a great place to go to grow your hair and keep it on that path. If I ever wanted hair that long I would be growing it out here. I would recommend not going there though as an observer, but as a patron only.

Rapunzel's gives a very good haircut. Yes, as some of the other reviewers have said, they do cater to people with very very long hair, but my hair is only about arm-pit length, and it still benefits from Rapunzels "dusting" approach (as described by other reviews). My hair always looks better after a dusting. Some other points: Dave and Margo (and other employees, too, though I've had less experience with them) are friendly and fun to talk to during the--admittedly long--hair cuts. There is always coffee and soda for free while you're there, and sometimes something to snack on. And there's a student discount. It's still not a cheap hair cut, but it is fairly inexpensive for a salon cut! If your hair is below shoulder length and you want to consider to wear your hair long, I'd seriously recommend that you give Rapunzel's a try to see whether it's right for you.
