First time visit and it was amazing!! Chef easily accommodated dietary restrictions (I'm vegan - others are not). We guacamole and a mushroom flatbread/pizza for dessert - both were specials for the evening and were fantastic. Truffle oil on the flatbread. Homemade tortilla chips with the guac along with a beautiful presentation. Vegan entree prepared exquisitely - cauliflower curry with a quinoa/wild rice side dish, baby potatoes, pita bread, and fruit. I took at least half home it was so filling. Others had chicken parmigiana (also special) and pork - pasta done al dente, everything cooked to perfection.
At least 4-5 dessert samples were brought out - while I didn't have any the others were impressed. All baked in-house.
Service is exceptional. Waiter - Jon, Owner - Nancy, Chef - Ruben.
Highly recommend giving this place a try... something you would find in a much more cosmopolitan area... a true gem for Allegany County and I get the impression it's underrated as a result.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Susan T.Arlington, VA05Oct 10, 2019

Drove up to Alfred, NY (8/22/20) to drop off my son back to college and move him into his dorm. Finished at 8PM and checked into Microtel Inn and Suites in Wellsville by 8:30PM. Starving. Called the Beef Haus at 8:36pm and they told me that the kitchen was closed. Called The Duke House at 8:37PM and they told that the kitchen was closed but let's see what we can do for you. The owner came on the phone and could hear my hunger and desperation. She offered London Broil, NY Strips, or Fish. We chose the NY Strips which came with mashed potatoes and veggies. I also asked if she had wine which they did; along with Pellegrino water and sodas. I asked if we had to pick it up and she said if you're too exhausted, we can drop it off to you. I pleaded for her to. The owner said that she had to meet me lol so she delivered our dinner with her face mask on. Food was still hot and she brought silverware and said "You can't possibly cut steak with plasticware." Just thoughtful. She said to just leave the silverware at the front desk when we're done. Steak was perfect and the mashed potatoes and veggies were so tasty and everything was well seasoned. No need for salt or pepper on anything. She threw in a couple of brownies...just because. :) I gave her a generous tip of course because this is customer service at it's finest. So just imagine that this is how they operate for delivery service, then there dine in service must be 10 stars. This is 5 star dining and I have to go in person to see and experience their dine in service. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!

I wish I could give it no stars. I waited 2 and 1/2 hours for a grilled cheese. I am not exaggerating. When it finally came it was just a grilled cheese. Also it came with a side and I asked for a salad and got fries. Also it was very cold out and they had the AC on. I actually went to the ac vent and put an object over it so I wouldn't freeze to death waiting 2 1/2 hours for my grilled cheese. Never again....ever.

I waited 2 1/2 hours for a grilled cheese. 3 other tables in there and 2 1/2 hours later I got a grilled cheese...which was suppose to come with a salad, but came with fries. I was so dang hungry I didn't send it back. Prices are very high and food is typical restaurant food. It was also freezing in there. Very cold Fall day and all the windows were open and AC was blasting. Somebody was buying my meal as a treat to me and I didn't want them to feel bad, so that is why I put up with all of this.

Perfect mix of flavors, options and intimacy. Many seating options from small party to semi-private seating for 14. The decor is impeccably eclectic. For lunch, The Duke House trio offered a fantastically flavorful soup - beef barley in a wine and mushroom base, perfect texture, a fresh spring mix with Dill Ranch dressing and a pleasant, chicken salad with Asian spice as well as perfectly ripened fruit. My sister tried the tomato basil with equal success. For dessert? (Of course there's dessert!). Carrot cake cupcake was a tasty blend, balanced cake and icing.
