Ting's Red Lantern

Every year we come back to Cedar Rapids for Christmas and this is a must stop restaurant. In the seven days that we are here we always eat it at least twice. The crab Rangoon are excellent the General Tsos chicken is great. The food is always fresh. If you go in the restaurant the service is usually fast even if they are really busy. It is your typical restaurant as far as the ambiance is concerned, it is clean and neat.
A great stop if you are looking for fast, fresh, fantastic Chinese food in the Cedar Rapids area!

Gross. Expensive. $36 for three items. Pu put platter was horrible. I didn't eat it. Fried in very bad/old oil. Empress chicken tasted like old oil too. Gross. Rice was cold. Hot & Sour soup was ok. Best of the three items but still lacking. I will not return. I used to enjoy getting food from here and it was good. Not anymore, and it appears that I'm not the only one who has received really bad food.
EDIT: Went back and they made something different for us. Fried rice. Mongolian beef. Egg drop soup.
Still the worst Chinese I've ever had. I returned all if it.
Enjoy my $36. You fucking need it. Much more than I do.

first tried ordering online for PICK UP, every time when I went to check out it added a 10% tip, what? I am picking it up, I tried everything, so I went to the establishment, and stated that I had trouble, they suggested everything I tried doing in the first place, they did not seem too concerned, so you may want to double check your check out bill. When I arrived at the restaurant I asked for a menu, the one they handed me was their dinner table menu, and when I opened it there was food crusted to the plastic inside. So, I brushed it off only to find that as I angled the menu it was smeared with food, for those of you reading this review, you're smart and can see that if they don't care to clean their menus, which are out in the open, what's clean in the hidden kitchen?

Service was fine, but my food was pretty lackluster. Spring rolls full of tough, shredded greens - and that was it. I also got egg drop soup which was a fine big bowl of broth with a little egg, celery, and onion - and a couple of bits of chicken.

OMG! This was the WORST Chinese place that I have ever been to! I must be spoiled from all that amazing San Francisco Chinese Cuisine that I had the opportunity to experience and taste!'
The 2-stars I gave is for the friendly and efficient service we received while waiting for our food to be served.
Otherwise, the egg rolls were overly greasy and not crunchy at all. My Szechuan Beef was too sweet, not spicy at all! I am not sure what sauce they used, but it was nothing like any Szechuan sauce I ever tasted! My friend's daughter, who I was having dinner with, got the Sweet & Sour Chicken. She actual liked her food, but then her response to me was, "Don't forget! We are in Iowa!" Yes, how could I forget?
I am all for patronizing the small business owner, so I am willing to give this place another try. Let's hope next time, I order a dish that will make me want to continue to come back!

Ting's is the only place for Chinese food is the CR/Marion area. I've tried about all the rest, they are all garbage!

Ting's arrived fresh and hot. I ordered through GrubHub she unfortunately did not receive the Beef Lol Mein I ordered which is the only reason I couldn't give 5 stars.
The Sesame Chicken is delicious. The sauce is savory and smooth. I do kinda wish they served it with some nice stalks of broccoli though...and maybe a bit more white rice to go with the massive serving of entree!
The Crab Rangoons... Also seasoned beautifully. They appear to be homemade rather than fried from frozen.

Only ok. Ordered carry out, food was nice & hot. Ordered General Tso's chicken which was over saucy and one piece of broccoli, . The chicken was tender, .

I dig Chinese food and this is easily the best tasting Chinese place in town within a 20 mile radius - Iowa City brings the competition. The Mongolian Beef and fresh made Crab Rangoons are the chart toppers here imo. Everything else I'm sure is gas too.

Stopped here for lunch. The server was pleasant. The atmosphere was typical for a small family owned restaurant and it was clean. The food was very disappointing. Raw veggies and tasteless meat/tofu in entrees. Heavy on just salt and garlic sauce over everything. Spring rolls were cold and uncooked in the center. Rangoons had a little blob of cream cheese filling rolling around in a papery shell. Some of the worst Chinese food we have ever had Im sorry to say, and we've traveled a lot. We're confused why there are many positive reviews.

I ordered the sesame chicken dinner with sticky rice and a side of crab raccoon. The sesame chicken is the absolute best I have ever had! It was super fresh, delicious and was enough for three meals. The rice was perfectly steamed in the crab rigoons were oh so scrumptious!
