    About the Business

The Capitol Theatre (also previously known as the Capitol Music Hall) is the largest theatre in West Virginia and a landmark building in the national historic district of downtown Wheeling. For many years, it has served as the home of Jamboree USA and the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra. Jamboree USA, a Saturday night live country music show broadcast on WWVA 1170 AM from 1926 until 1977, was the second-longest running radio show in the United States, second only to the Grand Ole Opry. The live music show annually drew hundreds of thousands of country music fans to Wheeling, where both local acts and nationally known celebrities such as Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard and Charley Pride would perform.…

      A beautifully restored historic theater!
I visited this theater for the first time for a wheeling symphony concert. Purchasing the tickets over the phone was a breeze with the friendly and helpful box office staff. They even gave me advice on parking,
Speaking of, there are paid lots right next to the theater (cash only) but only one street over there was plenty of on street parking.
There were two entrances from the Main Street and the entrance by the concession stand had a shorter wait to get in. The concession area was clean and there was a nice variety that was fairly priced. The line was quite long, though.
There were plenty of ushers stationed throughout the theater to help direct you to your seats. A lot of them were part of a youth volunteer program which I loved to see. The seats were typical of older theaters in that they aren't overly spacious and there isn't a lot of leg room. I wasn't y uncomfortable, though.
You can see from anywhere which is a plus.
A great venue I would definitely return to.

First let me just say, Theater itself was AMAZING. Only complaint was the stale popcorn.

Food was very reasonable, Inside is GORGEOUS.

Only reason I didn't give the theater 5 Stars was due to the parking garage next to the theater.

The attendant drew a hand written sign that said, Elevator Will Be On For An Hr After The Show Is Over... Thank You.

We left the show, a 2 min walk and attendant had already locked up the bathrooms and informed us he just turned off the elevator .

DUDE, You lazy POS... Its Micky Dolenz... Fans of the Monkees.. People in walkers and canes walking up the steps... I helped 2 really nice woman. All cause lazy garage attendant wanted to be home by 10Pm.

Be warned, Expect to walk up the stairs after shows at the Capitol Theater.

One of the most beautiful venues To see a concert.
The sound was excellent, it's easy to get to with plenty of parking all around it and it was right off of 70, so it's easy to get to from pittsburgh or towns to the west.
But what really impressed me was the staff. Every one of the ushers were in uniform, all of the people taking tickets were in uniform and every person that I came in contact with greeted us with a smile and said hello. When we left the show, the same folks were holding the doors and thanked us for coming. I was very impressed with this entire night. I was a bit hesitant to drive to wheeling to see a show, but we were in and out just as quick as if we were at a show at home. Well done, we will be back!

I was there last night for The Sound of Music. Very nice restored theater, right in downtown (2 blocks from me!), and I understand it's the biggest theater in West Virginia. Great layout and décor, will definitely be attending more shows in the future. My only concern, I was surprised to see very few ushers, there was confusion as a lot of people didn't know where they were sitting. It would be helpful to have workers directing people to their seats.

I am still brimming with excitement from the night's performance of the Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker. The evening left me feeling as I had traveled back in time stepping directly from the pages of a Tahsa Alexander novel into the historic theatre Mariinsky of opera and ballet lore in Saint Petersburg, Russia. That Opened in 1860, it became the preeminent music theatre of late 19th-century Russia, where many of the stage masterpieces of Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov received their premieres.
The Capitol Theatre staff was friendly and professional the usher pointed "you have got good seats your right there..." leading to front center stage... everything neat clean. The parking was reasonable at $5.00 and short walk in the night air that added atmosphere. The chance to have a photo with a lead ballerina unique chance for those who cherish a ballet memory for a beloved shadow box.
The twilight production following the 126 anniversary of Tchaikovsky passing and the closing of the first act with snowflakes flying. Left theatregoers. Hoping the outside that a snow squall might await them but if was not to be... The local young dancers were a vision only seen in the likes of Degas's rendering of his beloved ballerinas in paint, pastel, pencil, ink, and even wax.
As for the second act Tchaikovsky Waltz look the audience to the opulence of the Winter Palace only found Tsarist Russia. I didn't want to leave ...

The Capitol Theare is truly the heart of Wheeling. Built in 1928 in the art deco style, it was recently given a complete refresh by the Wheeling Convention and Visitors Bureau. You can just feel the history in this place. Although it has been host to many kinds of entertainment over the years (including WWVA's famous Wheeling Jamboree radio show), most recently you'll see small national acts, touring Broadway shows, and the Wheeling Symphony.

Most recently, I attended a Willie Nelson concert and had a phenomenal night. Even from my spot at the top of the balcony, I had no problem hearing the show due to the theater's wonderful acoustics. The staff is friendly, and you really get the chance to see national acts with a small town feel.

Do NOT drink the wine!!! Otherwise a lovely theater with great acoustics. Seats were comfortable and they have adequate number of restrooms. Charming downtown location. But seriously, don't drink the wine. It was so terrible I dumped mine out in the water fountain.

I grew up not far from Wheeling and remember attending events there when I was a child. I still return every now and again to the Capitol Theatre. That place is the complete package. Not only do they bring in great performances, but the atmosphere and staff are equally fabulous. I recently had an issue with ticketing and sent an email to the address on the website inquiring if someone could help. To my surprise, it was answered immediately and I was assisted by no less than the Marketing Director. I was immensely surprised and impressed by the attention and care my small request was given. It was just a great reminder of what a difference good customer service makes. I would encourage anyone and everyone to consider attending an event at Capitol Theatre. I know I will be back.
