Our family had a fantastic time on the scenic Columbia River with PDX Water Sports. We rented Brandon's Monark 205 Sun Lounger deck boat (see photos) and it runs great with a 130 hp outboard. With three passengers, we got a max speed of 30 kts and cruised very comfortably on plane at 22 kts. This is not a new boat and is missing its windshield, but it has a bimini shade and plenty of seating. The seat conditions and such are expected of an older boat, but we are here for the Oregon water experience, not two-tone leatherette.
There is no online booking, so text PDX Watersports and the response is fast. Coordinating times and getting a price quote was super easy too.
If you are used to renting from overpriced corprate operators, think of this as the opposite-- the hometown small business owner.
Chinook Landing boat ramp has plenty of parking and is out of the Portland traffic/busy areas. If you are renting on the 4th of July or some other peak day, expect peak conditions at launch and on the river. We had a quiet, summer Friday on the water instead. Deposit was returned within 60 minutes of getting back to the dock (and inspecting the boat and prop of course!).
I would definitely recommend PDX Water Sports if you are an experienced boater looking for a great time on the Columbia or Williamette. I sense a lot of the negative reviewers are people who don't know much about boating, planing speeds, weight distribution, or safe operation of a vessel. Looking forward to doing this again the next time we visit Portland!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Beatriz G.Tualatin, OR0162Jun 22, 2021
Gary & Mike took care of us. Most all of our communication prior was by text with someone else but they were the gentlemen on site. Very nice experience and made my all girls reunion boat party a success as they were kind enough to show us what to do (first time on boat) and even helped us bring our cooler down the ramp (it was heavy!)
Will def be back.
Bring cash if you can, just made it easier.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Danny G.Queens, NY979041Jun 12, 2016
Couldn't have been happier with the experience I've had with PDX Water Sports. It was 4PM on a Sunday, and I had just gotten off watching all the jet skis on the Willamette Jet Boat Excursion (which I also recommend).
Browsing around for jet ski rentals in Portland, I stumbled upon PDX Water Sports. I called them up, and the voicemail told me to text the owner. After a few minutes, he texted back and let me know he had a Yamaha Waverunner ready for me at a dock in Fairview, OR. As I'm used to NY laws where everything is strict and expensive, I couldn't believe how easy it was to secure a jet ski rental on a whim at 5PM on a Sunday.
I met the owner (who's a super nice guy) and he explained how the jet ski worked after taking my payment. After a few minutes, I was off. Lifejacket was included as well and was very comfortable.
The hour went by quick, but it was so much fun. If you've ridden before, you already know. Now you at least know there's a great place to rent one from.
It cost me about $100 with 5% card fee and tax, which I think was fairly reasonable. Highly recommend if you're looking for a jet ski rental.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mia B.Richmond, Portland, OR0114Oct 3, 2021
I saw all the reviews on this place and was a little worried but decided to go with PDX since it still had the best rating out of all the other watercraft rental businesses. I rented the 23ft pontoon for a full day. It was a little challenging to get a date set but once we agreed on a date and time, they were very punctual and helpful. They helped us load our stuff into the boat and dropped us right into the water. There are some cosmetic issues with the boats, you can tell they've been through their fair share of wear and tear but everything we needed to work did work. My family had a lot of fun and we didn't have any issues with the boat or the motor. We ended up getting a little beached ( a lot beached) and the owner checked in on us multiple times and had his guys wait for us back at the loading dock until we got back safely. I got my deposit back very quickly (keep in kind there is a surcharge for card use that they pass onto you) but I would recommend taking a picture of the gas tank when you finish because they charge you for gas used and it can be a little excessive. Still, all in all I would definitely rent from them again.

Called the number on yelp on a Saturday, talked to the owner to rent 2 jet skis for 1/2 day (4 hours) on Sunday. Met with him at 10am at Chinook Landing Marine Park, filled out some paperwork and was off at 10:30am. He gave us until 2:30pm even though technically we started at 10am... we were supposed to get there a little earlier but it was our fault we ran a little late. Even so, it was really nice he gave us the full 4 hours anyway!
Besides that, the price was great. $200 for 1/2 day for 1 jet ski rental. No deposit, just a credit card on file. There's a 5% charge for credit cards so if you want to save a little, you could bring cash. For the convenience, the 5% charge was fine.
Tip: If you're a first time renter, they also charge for the amount of gas used. I had used about 1/2 a tank after the 4 hours, which ended up being around $20 (I think). Though if you are not as careful, it's easy to use more than 1/2 a tank during the 1/2 day.
Easiest rental ever. 10/10 will definitely rent from here again!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Mohan C.Altadena, CA19Aug 19, 2019

Most unprofessional experience ever. Put down a deposit and then he told me he'd already rented the boat to someone else. So I reserved a different boat. Made the plans with my entire family, paid for parking, showed up at the boat ramp and he's not there. Waited an hour, called numerous times, no answer. Finally got a text "We're closed for the season, sorry". Seriously!? Screwed over my whole family trip, no communication, no recompense for my trouble. When I explained this to him he responded "I don't care, I'm driving to Utah." Likely the most disturbingly unprofessional experience of my life. Fairly certain this guy is mentally ill. Terrible experience, do not bother.

We have rented from them 3x now and every experience has been excellent. Prompt, friendly and helpful. And not crazy expensive! We will use again and definitely recommend.

The business doesn't respond to inquiries. Voicemail is not setup and my texts/emails were not returned. Trying to find rental information for an upcoming vacation and zero response from this business.

Friendly staff. But the boat was 20 years old with obvious flaws. Not the quality I expected with a rental
