Umai Japanese Restaurant

Did not like the vegetarian sushi at all- it was all raw, nothing cooked. Service was so slow. They were trying to take extra long so we would get more food- they told us that the vegetable sushi would take a while to make and that we should order apps in the meantime (the sushi was RAW VEGETABLES). Can't take that long to put it together, but they wanted us to spend more money on what we didn't want. The ambience was nice, though. Busy spot!

I'm not one to complain this much, but was very put off by my experience and the food from here.

Well it's been a looong time since I was here last. Here for a quick visit and the boss and I came here an hour before closing.
The boss had the rainbow roll and no I had the chirashi - yes, my fave
Patty really loved the rainbow roll. The roll has crunchy tempura flakes in it and she really loved it.
Finally, I had a great chirashi. Pickled radish, carrot and yes, mushroom. Hearty and fresh cuts of sashimi on a bed of rice. It's been a looong time since I have had a chirashi this good .

I can't speak of the service when it's busy. But I can tell you, there were two other tables of 4 and 6, and we got our food pronto.

I just had takeout hut very good service and my sushi roles were good and fresh Great option for the area and they do have a nice dining area and sushi bar areas

Ordered the crunchy spicy and spicy tuna rolls. Tuna was kind of mushy and the roll was very loosely wrapped. Service is really slow but they do what they can. Good for local sushi when you are in the mood.
Salmon teriyaki had a lot of veggies and was a large order.

I just heard about this place from a friend and decided to give it a try. It's quite small but located in a very nice area with some surrounding shops and restaurants.

As soon as we entered it was obvious this was a family friendly and welcoming place. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. We ordered several different items including some from the specials.

I started off with a house salad which was surprisingly served in a takeout container which I did find strange. It was obviously pulled right from the refrigerator as it was quite cold.

Next up was the star of the evening, the tuna sundae. It tasted even better than it looked. The tuna melted in your mouth.

I also tried the Arctic char along with the crunchy spicy tuna maki.

Our table also had the Umai roll and the fire roll. Both were very nicely done and had great flavor.

Because of a bit of extended wait, the chef sent us a plate of shrimp shumai which was quite nice and a really great way to make the customer feel special.

We all liked the staff and atmosphere they have created here. If I was to knock anything, it's the fact that the food presentation doesn't match the quality and live for the food.

We will be back and I hope to try even more items here.

We came to Umai on a Monday evening to satisfy a sushi craving and ended up finding our new sushi spot! We called to make a reservation as they are not currently offering indoor seating and walked up to an adorable table outside.

The food: we started with shrimp shumai and a tuna pizza (but asked for sub salmon). They were perfect appetizers and the food all tasted freshly made. We then moved to dragon roll, Umai roll and crunchy spicy salmon roll. The fish again tasted fresh and just made. The best example was the spicy salmon - it was obvious that it had just been cut up for the roll and wasn't a pre mixed filling. The amount was perfect for the two of us! Finally the mochi ice cream was tasty and refreshing!

Last but never least, the service. Our server from the time we arrived to the moment we left was attentive, friendly and incredible. He checked on us frequently and was so kind. As if the food wasn't good enough, we'll definitely return for the service! He appeared to be the only server there but handled all tables with ease, including setting up 2 additional tables without the blink of an eye!

I am so sad that it took me this long to find this gem but cannot wait to make Umai our regular go-to!

I'll give them two stars because the person who greeted me was really nice and so was everybody else in the shop. But with this being one of the few places selling Chicken Teriyaki in Lansdale, I was very disappointed. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki box lunch special. As you can see below my meal was about 90-95% vegetables with a couple pieces of chicken mixed in. Disappointed. If I get hungry again and want chicken, this is obviously not the place I'll be ordering it from. Hope this review helps others and motivates the establishment to do better.

Solid food. Different take in regards to the volcano roll then what I'm used to. Nabeyaki udon was solid to. They have an omakase that sounds good (couple people next to me were loving it )

Family business and very friendly! If I'm ever back in the area I would come back.

Also acoustic playlist was on point!

My husband and I have been going for over 10 years and it never disappoints. The food is always so fresh and amazing and Chef Rae is absolutely the best!

Best in the area for fresh sushi & sashimi! Been going there for many years and never disappointed with anything!
Chef Ray is awesome along with great staff and great service!
Highly recommend if you want the best !!!
