I had all my work done before COVID in February 2020.
What you need to know.
* he charges $950 per day plus materials
* he charges 20% mark up on all materials as stated in the fine print of the contract,
*he refuses to show receipts for labor & materials
* he finds other problems that are in dire need to be fixed when they really don't.
* communication seems to be good but the lack of transparency causes discrepancies in what he says and what is being charged
* I would describe Tripps renovations as the sleazy used car salesman of the construction world.
*his entire crew smokes and you'll be picking up butts for weeks
I bought my dream home for 400k. Thats a lot of money and a wanted things fixed right. Tripps renovations had a beautiful website with great examples so I got an estimate. His estimate was 33 k to fix all my water issues fix the balcony and tile my shower. Things kept popping up that needed addressed. He insisted I needed a new roof and he could do it while he was on site. According to him the shingles were defective and it was installed incorrectly. I called for a second opinion. My roofer ( who inspected the roof after I fired tripp) said I had top of the line 50yr shingles with 40 years of life left in them.
My total budget was 35 so as items where added we would remove the less important things like trim and painting. Every time this happened we discussed the budget and every time Tripp would assure me that removing the other smaller task would keep us on budget. I got one invoice for 35k and I was fine with it, only 2 grand over budget. When he got to the bathroom I decided to increase my budget to 40k and have him do some extra work. We spoke and he agreed. The day after the demo of the master bathroom I received a bill for 52,000 dollars. I called him and that's what it would take to finish the job plus I had to buy the tile.
Here is where i take issue. On Friday I signed the invoice for 35 k By Wednesday of the following week it jumped to 52k plus the cost of the tile. I told him he was either a crook or really bad at math because the numbers aren't adding up. He wouldn't provide receipts and he said he didn't have to charge what was estimated. When we told him to only contact us thru our lawyer he realized he double charged us for labor. It came down to 38k. We paid it to be done with him but my bathroom is demolished, my downspouts aren't fixed and my stucco is still only roughed in. A very expensive lesson.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Facts about Tripps Renovations...We do charge $950 a day for a full service renovation operation. This daily rate includes two skilled carpenters, a project manager, material handler and other office staff that are required to operate in todays service industry. (The 20% markup on materials is in large print on the contract with our customers, not small print.) I offered and provided all receipts to this customer, as I always do when asked, and we were totally transparent. The review above is completely incorrect in how we operate and how this job was handled.
The customer wanted to save money by doing some of the work himself and in the end did not have the funds to complete all the issues with the home or to support his issues and the desire for expensive tile. The home was a foreclosure and was in terrible shape. We went over and beyond to help this customer save his house from collapsing. We did everything we said we would do and he made all the decisions when it came to what was to be completed and what he would complete due to money issues. I would encourage any perspective customer to check us out on other platforms or call us for references to gain a better understanding of who we really are and what we stand for. - Robert M.SoMa, San Francisco, CA05Apr 8, 2022
The issue became the timeliness of a painting quote, which was not part of of the original estimate/quote. Â The painters showed up and painted the exterior of the house, around the new windows. Â Total area painted was 283 square feet. Â The charge was an outrageous $2,401. Â I never received a quote for the work until it was completed. Â I would have never agreed to that price for such a small area. Â When I complained, Tripp's wrote back to me "I'm surprised that we failed to provide you with an estimate as we typically do. I suppose we were more interested in making sure that the work got done.....". Â They refused to take any responsibility for the error. Â They still expected me to pay the full amount on invoice. Â I did pay, but will NEVER use them again for potential bathroom remodels. Â Be wary of overcharging by them.

Tripp and his workmen finished the third major upgrade to our home in September 2020. This time they did a complete renovation of our master bath. Previously they did a kitchen (2014 - 15) and a Florida room makeover in 2019.
I recommend him wholeheartedly and without any reservations. He sticks to the plan that you coordinate with him before you start and he works personally with you as work continues. We especially enjoy his workers. Tripp goes to a lot of trouble to hire nice people that are professionals in their respective trade. We have worked with him since 2014 and have never been disappointed. I strongly recommend that you contact him if you are considering renovations to your home.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Mar 15, 2019Previous reviewTripp and his crew did a major renovation for our townhouse in Lake Pointe Landing in February 2019. The month-long job consisted of converting an old outdoor sun porch to a heated, cooled, and insulated indoor sunroom. Considerable electrical work was also accomplished. It was a major update. The work was done on time, on budget without any problems. He insists on high-quality results from his workers and he gets it. Tripp did a kitchen renovation for us in 2014 and his work then, as now, was top of the line. I would not hesitate a minute to use him again and highly recommend him for anyone seeking a renovation/building contractor.
